Iron Maiden - The Educated Fool Lyrics

I am an educated fool
So I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do
About this awkward situation
That's been forced down right upon me

As I'm walking down into
On my own into the Valley of life
Got a lifetime of experience
Yeah I've got so much to give

Open the page at chapter one
Could this just be that life's just begun
Forever within your darker thoughts
Reflecting on everything you've been taught

Never felt this way before
Seems that somebody's just opened the door
To the book of life... or is it death
Is there ever anyway out

Someone's looking down on me
To the very inner core of my soul
They won't tell me what they see
But I really want to know

I want to leave my life on my own
I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire
I want to live out all my desires
I want to go and see the fire burn
I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn
I want to pass the point of no return

Do you really wanna be
Just another one statistic or feel
That you really should aspire
That you really do deserve more

Do you ever really feel
That you have so much potential inside
What you really have to give
Could be realised so much more

I want to leave my life on my own
I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire
I want to live out all my desires
I want to go and see the fire burn
I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn
I want to pass the point of no return

Time will flow
And I will follow
Time will go
But I will follow

I want to feel what life's like respond
I want to meet my father beyond
I want to walk right into the light
I want to feel no fear but delight

I want to leave my life on my own
I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire
I want to live out all my desires

Time will flow
And I will follow
Time will go
But I will follow

Iron Maiden The Educated Fool Comments
  1. M.... G....

  2. T.... C....

    Up the Irons!

  3. S.... C....

    Good tune right here

  4. e.... ....

I regret to find this song so late in 2019...

  5. M.... ....

The Blaze albums would've been so much better had Di'Anno sang them instead.

    M.... ....

    Blaze did just fine.

    M.... ....

There are certain songs where he sounds okay...I think "Futureal" he sounds best on, almost sounds a bit like Di'Anno on that track. Ironically the other songs I think he sounds okay on are all B-sides. I think that goes to show how bad their decision making was at that point.

  6. F.... B....

    I love this Album !!!

  7. A.... S....

    Gran valor blaze

  8. I.... S....

Class VIII & IX .. every evening, after prayer ... While preparing for the night prep back in boarding school days.. memories , oh sweet memories!!

    How human can dislike this?

  10. Y.... P....

I have an original CD of this album

  11. C.... E....

blaze is really good singer!loveall Iron maiden lead singer!

  12. r.... S....

The only mistake of IM back then was not being mixed by Shirley 😢 Great compositions and an absolute admirable unique voice singer 👍

  13. K.... H....

I just don't get how so many praise Blaze. I still find it virtually un-listenable despite being a HUGE maiden fan for 40 years now. He is perpetually flat when putting ANY energy into his singing. He goes beyond "flat" to just being completely off key in even recorded material. That is simply inexcusable. You can hear that Steve Harris' harmonies are needed to "pull him up", because he simply can't get there. I don't think a hard rock/metal singer needs to have a high register, but holy shit!....Every song can't be in the same key.....can it? Very often, there is just no relationship with what the band is playing and what he's singing. It's just a monotone voice, disconnected from the music. Sorry, it HAD to be said. This was a cringe-worthy, sad period in Maiden's illustrious career. They'll never come out and say it, and trash Blaze, but they clearly knew this material sucked. They had to get back to being Maiden, and everyone put their egos aside to get it back. Why do you think Adrian Smith returned with Bruce? He refused to be associated with anything they were doing with Blaze. It was high school garage band shit! Stop romanticizing this era. It almost ended Iron Maiden forever. I am SO thankful that they gave up and went back to being the real Iron Maiden, so I could enjoy them for another 20 years.

  14. Z.... E....

The first album I listened to Iron Maiden was this one and I loved it. I heard Blaze before Bruce. Blaze albums are underrated

  24. D.... P....

Total respect for blaze. He did a great job with maiden and his songs in his solo career are awesome

  25. J.... M....

Definitely Blaze Bayley was a very bad idea!

  26. N.... A....

I never thought that the lyrics of a song (inspecially after hearing the vomit that is most modern music) could possibly speak for me until I heard Iron maiden.

  27. K.... ....

THIS IS THE IRON MAIDEN I LOVE!!! Fckkkkkk

  28. M.... B....

    Muito bommmmm

  29. G.... G....

    Great and underrated song!!

  30. s.... w....

Guys, listen, just listen...what´s not to love in this song...the amazing melodic tune, dazzling lyrics or the just hypnotizing voice of Blaze ??? I´m an educated fool so please let me know....

  31. f.... p....

  33. s.... w....

An absolutely brilliant song, a beautiful lyric, and the breathtaking interpretation by Blaze....to me it´s a precious treasure...BRAVO Maiden and BLAZE....I love this era, both musically and lyrically.....

  34. A.... L....

    Hmmm ... Zajebiste.

  35. s.... w....

A ravishing song from their Golden Era...even if this era is Vastly underrated and surely Blaze, it will always be a GOLDEN era to me. It seems like a wasted opportunaty somehow, I really miss this melancholic, melodic tunes that cuts deep into your heart and soul, the breathtaking lyrics and the dark, powerful voice of Blaze...theese two albums are treasures...

  36. m.... ....

I love this song! The way it stars out quite and builds up to an explosive and melodic metal. Blaze Bailey did some great stuff with Maiden, total respect for this guy!

  37. M.... B....

  38. R.... A....

Blaze Bailey there. A damned fine singer in his own right. But will forever live in the shadow of Bruce.

  39. C.... A....

I want yo meet my father beyond ♥

  40. M.... M....

    One of my favorite

  41. S.... O....

This song is like a former actor / etc. trying to make it cool . . . But the implications are heard . . .

  42. s.... w....

Beautiful....the lyrics shows an insight of the human mind, Time will Flow and I will Follow sums it all up....or don´t you think so ???

  43. B.... S....

So good to listen this songs, so many messages to get from it 🙏🙏🙏🙏

  44. s.... w....

A Hidden Jewel in their discography.....simply: outstanding..

  45. D.... R....

The chorus of this song always remembers me the one of Black Sabbaths "Kiss of Death", from the 1995 album "Forbidden".

  46. s.... w....

Say what you want but this is a beautiful song, during the Baze era there were so many Golden Gems and masterpieces written and performed, we still hear echoes in their later music, the melancholic melodic tunes, deep thought provoking lyrics, and here we hear them using theese gorgeous slow, soft intros and outros and the dark, intense and passionate voice of Blaze makes them to pure gold....

  47. K.... E....

  48. C.... P....

    Great indeed

  49. s.... w....

A Golden Gem for sure.....listen to the blistering music, dazzling lyrics and the dark, intense and powerful voice of Blaze......especially the chorus......I´m shivering, THERE´s a REAL metal voice....

  50. G.... 3....

    TESTOSTERONE LEVEL 6000

  51. R.... S....

Lame. Vocals suck hairy fuckin' buttholes. Couldn't even finish this shit, it sounds so God fuckin' awful. This whole period in Maiden's history is like a horrible fuckin' drunkened blackout---you have bad flashbacks every time you try to remember what the fuck happened, and if you think too hard about it it just makes your head hurt and induces nausea.

    R.... S....

Mama eu gringo lixo respeita o blaise

    R.... S....

Nice to see the Bruce fanboys still kicking about

  52. L.... P....

What a great song! Love It.

  53. L.... N....

This song could have been written about the progressive left. A bunch of educated fools who're destroying everything the white man created and fought for.

  54. D.... K....

RHCP Maiden version. Or vice versa.

  55. R.... ....

The most underrated Iron Maiden song

    R.... ....

@susanne williamsson such a good song, not their best album by far but this amongst a couple of others is great imo

    R.... ....

@RJC to me, this will always be a Golden Era....we still hear echoes of this era in their later music, both musically and lyrically....so many epic golden gems and even masterpieces were written and performed in this time, aswell as here we hear theese slow, gentle intros and outros that adds a certain magic to the songs.....the impact Blaze had to their music is beyond belief, and I for one will always be grateful for the Blaze era......

    R.... ....

@susanne williamsson yes he is certainly deserving of more praise than he receives

    R.... ....

@RJC to be honest, I´m a Maiden fan but after reading all of theese insulting comments about this guy I started to listen carefully, as a result, I´m a Blaze fan too, and I followed his career after Maiden, his solo career, his albums, his shows....this singer is unique, one of a kind and the ACE of metal singers.....to me at least....

    R.... ....

  61. E.... P....

Thanks Bruce, Paul and Blaze, too

  62. K.... L....

Este album é fodasso.. Todas as faixas sao muito boas.. Iron Maiden sempre sera foda.. UP THE IRONs..

    K.... L....

    K.... L....

@Mario Carmo Eu vou ouvir melhor o Book of Souls.

    K.... L....

@Rodrigo M É verdade, Lord of the Flies deveria continuar sendo cantada pois é muito boa. Mas ainda tem muita música nesse padrão no The Book of Souls.

  63. L.... C....

    L.... C....

Lucas Caio concordo.. N canso denouvir estes albums com Blaze.. Muito louco este som

  64. F.... K....

ahhhhhhhhh, I'm back in late 98 when I bought this ... great memories for me!

  65. l.... ....

    Blaze is uneducated fool

  66. I.... O....

Honestly, this song is really beautiful.

  67. w.... 6....

Many of as are educated fools. I feel too 😎

  68. N.... N....

Very underrated album just because it is blaze on vocals but he is awesome in vocals at least in the studio
Why would iron maiden go with blaze if they didn’t think he could live up to their legacy?
In simple words, he is a great vocalist. Period.

  69. C.... d....

Everybody talk good things about Blaze on Iron but so why he was put out? I like him on solo albuns, is a lot way better

  70. T.... S....

I don't want to get lynched, however a lot of my favorite IM songs are in this album. Como Estais Amigos, Afraid to Shoot Strangers and Educated Fool. I wonder how come fans cannot appreciate this great album.

    T.... S....

Targal SB Actually Afraid to Shoot Strangers is on the Fear Of The Dark album.

  71. M.... K....

    silent hurricane!!

  72. P.... O....

  73. E.... P....

Almost has a southern rock chorus. First time I've given the non Bruce stuff a real chance so this is like a new find for me. Good writing and sound!

  74. w.... ....

Sad to know that this album was badly received, it's not Iron Maidens strongest, but it does hold its ground with more than half of the album with good songs

  75. A.... A....

These lyrics hurts. Do I still have time?

  76. R.... W....

With a better production and mix this would be a good song..but as it is the vocals on the verses sound like they don't for the mix

  77. K.... R....

Been loving this fool since '90s 💣

  78. A.... I....

If anyone noticed, this song is dedicated to Bruce Dickinson from the deep of harris's mind

  79. 8.... ....

2/5 on allmusic is allways a pretty good indication that stuff is good

  80. N.... A....

Sorry n hello fans but I don't like this album exipt 2 songs

  81. N.... A....

I'm very enjoyable with iron maiden not all but many many songs yah

  82. S.... B....

    One of their best albums.

    S.... B....

BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you honestly believe that, you deserve to have your ass kicked by a group of real Maiden fans.

    S.... B....

Sam Boggi the X-Factor is a legendary masterpiece, I love it aswell as the dark, intense and captivating voice of Blaze......and this album isn´t far behind, at all..

  83. I.... D....

as I'm getting older I'm starting to appreciate some things I didn't even want to consider before. You can't compare songs written for Bruce and for Bayley because they are two completely different singers. As much as I adore Bruce, Blaze has done an amazing job and the lyrics are out of this world. Amazing!
And he has Udo Dirkschneiders style of singing, I like that. Narrative and not to agressive but still heavy fucking metal!!!!

  84. Y.... D....

    Roarrrrr

  85. N.... A....

When waking up listen to this when brushing it tooth

  86. D.... U....

    \m/<3\m/

  87. T.... L....

Such a great track, such an underrated track, it's a great shame they don't play it live anymore.

    T.... L....

it´s a shame, but would you really like Bruce to sing this fantastic song, to be honest I think his higher pitched vocal range would make it in to almost a joke...

  88. X.... ....

Love it now lov3d it when i 1st hurd back in 2000 😍

  89. M.... D....

    Hail Liberty and justice

  90. N.... A....

Theres 2 songs are wow it's one of them

  91. s.... ....

It's the only boring song on this wonderful album

  92. G.... ....

I really think the chorus of this song is one of the best in Maiden's discography. Virtual XI as a whole project maybe doesn't quite stack up with the classic Maiden albums, but there are so many moments of brilliance hidden in the album that some people just neglect to appreciate.

  93. T.... C....

I'm about to go to college. Nothing describes better my feelings than this song. I went through highschool, I learned a few things, but I'm still a fool with no life experience...

  94. j.... v....

I like It very much this album

  95. A.... L....

Virtual 11 is so underrated. I'm not saying its not bad, but songs like Futureal, the Clansman, Lightning strikes Twice, the Educated Fool is good. Also Como Estais Amigos isn't actually that great.

  96. F.... C....

Time will flow and I will follow !!!

  97. M.... R....

This and somewhere in time are my favourite iron maiden album covers

  98. N.... S....

This album has some really good tracks (like this one, The Clansman, Como Estais Amigo, Futural, When two worlds collide) but people I think hate on it because it has Lightning strikes twice (which is awful) and The Angle and the Gambler which is one of the worst songs of all time

    N.... S....

NOT So Average Joe i agree with you i hate these 2 songs too.

  99. I.... Q....

Very criminally underrated, one of my favorites from Virtual XI!!!

    I.... Q....

the others:"the unbeliever, the nomad, the loneliness of the long distance runner"

    I.... Q....

You deserve to be castrated for even saying that.

    I.... Q....

Israel Quezada totally outstanding....I love the song as I love the Maiden AND the breathtaking voice of Blaze....honestly the chorus makes me shiver....

    I.... Q....

    Rim Shot no u

  100. L.... ....

Is it just me or does it feel like that Maiden was ahead of it's time with the concept art of this record? I mean the potential dangers of virtual reality and technology. We are becoming strangers to ourselves and each other...

    L.... ....

LeffaHamsteri Maiden always cares deeply about their lyrics, they tells the truth in their own brutal and poetic way and yes they are predicting the dangers of modern times.....and that is one of the reasons why they are A ONE OFF....
