They were actually emulating XTC more than punk, Simple Simon was an example. Minimalist synths and short catchy beats. It's kind of a shame they ditched the style by their third album but new wave was moving on by 83.

That's really great and powerful music, but I think they didn't want to be an independent or marginal band,they wanted to be really famous and so they had to switch to this suitable for the masses pop music. It's the question what is important to you, some find it bad that they changed to popmusic, but I think it's the own decision of every band/musician, what they say is really important to them.

Their music was pop rock but still it had the good old garage feeling of older rock n roll like the Stones !!!

The intro sounds AC/DC influenced but the rest of the song is very punk sounding. Top song though. I like this better than Simple Simon.

Great track the early INXS stuff was damn awesome this "Simple Simon" and "Just Keep Walking" are still class today. Definitely gets regular airplay here.

Too bad I got into their much older stuff after Michael's mishap. They were highly under rated, even after they went to the U.S. Kinda like Billy Idol was with Generation X, even after he went solo and moved to the U.S. Still unappreciated. I wonder how many people out there know that top hits The One Thing and Dancing With Myself are like 1980 tunes, probably recorded in the late 70s?
