In a sort a Aussie TOTP performance!! I heard and listened to this great band for the first time thanks to my cousins ​​who lived in Sidney, it was the summer of 1983 and they were on vacation in Italy, their parents' country of origin.
Until then as Australian groups I knew the AC / DC, the Man at Work at that time very famous ... and Olivia Newton John ;-)))), they were also Icehouse fans but they leaned more for Huthcense & co. that made me listen to them on their Walkmans telling me they were very strong in Australia but we weren't famous yet.
I met them a year later, in 1984, with The Original Sin and I send the message from The Swing, from then on I didn't leave them anymore.

I liked Stay Young better. That got me interested in INXS when the clip was first on COUNTDOWN. I fell in love with him. They patented their INXS sound with that. This reminds me of The Sports and Aussie Crawl's 'Beautiful People'.

So this is how they got their start...good thing they changed their style...even though their anthem became “don’t change a thing “.

There is something evidently special about Michael during INXS' debut year.

I agree with all of you. It was 1980 & I was 12 years old. Selling my Bay City Roller, KISS and Abba records, I furthered my interest in music & discovered other (& better) genres. I recall my enjoyment of listening to late 1979-early 80’s: Jam, Stooges, Madness, Talking Heads, Radio Birdman, the Sports, etc. One Xmas I was given the book ‘No-one Gets Out Alive’ (biography of Jim Morrison), and my obsession with real music was cemented. I first heard this song whilst watching the after-school kids programme ‘SimonTownsend’s Wonder World’ and immediately felt drawn to this ‘new-wave’ , innovative sounding band. And yes, I noticed quickly noticed the similarities between Michael Hutchence and a young Mick Jagger, as well as to Iggy Pop and Jim Morrison straight away. He was often described as ‘Mick Jaggeresque’ in interviews.

Reminds me of the English 'mod' sound. (ie:  Madness, English Beat etc.)  They are just babies!!!!
