Incubus was NEVER anything like them; way more resonant to Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, during Incubus' funk era. If you don't believe me, do the comparison yourself & see first-hand. Even said so themselves, they were heavily influenced by Patton's work.

Brandons vocals sound like the chili peppers cover but the instruments sound like the Ohio players, but slowed down. well whatever, that's what it sounds like to me. that or Mr bungle's girls of porn.

Why does this remind me of Mike Patton? Maybe I will give Incubus a shot. Any band that makes me think of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle is worth my time.

On top of that all the songs that people say are for mainstream that got big in reality never even really got that big compared to how big the other top songs from the real mainstream artists were when they came out. incubus is NOT the richest band out there by FAR and there is nothing that exists on this world that would point incubus out as a mainstream band even there 2011 album.

your completely wrong about that actually. the 2011 album was when they got old enough and finally realized that they gave no fucks to how much money they made or what people thought. There music carries the emotions of them and since they have gotten older and more mature so has there music. The best musicians can alter there music style and still be perceived as the same artist with the same mindset which is what they have been doing every album since 1995. not one album has ever been similar.

yeah most bands do that but incubus has never changed there music to what the general population wants and never will. they music is ever changing because to do the same thing over and over would limit expression through music. this was real incubus, second album too! after that there where absorbed by the commercial labels to make alternative rock music. poor story :( they even play those song any more!

I think you're not in the music industry or a musician, and so I don't think you really have the credentials to make a statement like that. There are plenty of bands that keep artistic integrity but also sell fucktons of albums. Tool, they are still creative, they still make money. Take Queens of the Stone Age: Still awesome, still making money. Josh has a side-project with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones; they are creative, they make a shitton of money. Don't get the argument here.

I completely disagree that Incubus makes music to "just make money." These guys have a charity organization called the "Make Yourself Foundation" in which they siphon money from shows and album sales to support. I don't think their music even now sounds like pop. I like the new stuff and it still sounds like good rock n roll to me. You just have to realize they're not going to make the same damn album over and over again.

@Chuck Norris I like everything I've heard, but if not now, when is one of my favorite albums, not just from incubus. I don't think they got cheesy, plus, at least they do new things. Everyone hates on crappy bands like nickelback for doing the same thing over and over, they'd do the same to incubus if they didn't changed it up at all

Incubus has evolved. With that said I must add that they did not necessarily evolve in a good way. My favorite two albums are Fungus Amongus, SCIENCE and Make yourself. After that they got a bit cheesy. That's where I agree with redhotsuperfan. In a way I feel like Incubus let us down a bit. I own and listen to all of their albums but mostly the ones I mentioned. They're definitely not what they used to be.

And if thats so, (while i would like to see creative bands like incubus continue with their creativity) its not terrible that they changed because they are very talented, unlike most pop/rap stars

I have no problem with that logic; I take issue with the idea that Incubus decided to make music with the sole goal of being likeable. Again, I could go far more in depth, if not limited by characters. However, despite songs like Drive or Wish You Were Here blowing up, the guys never went out trying to make the next Drive or next WYWH to keep themselves on top of the top 40 charts. In fact, they drastically changed their sound from what people knew and loved just because that's what they wanted.

"likeable" in the sense that more people overall will find it appealing, thus making it more money. If you dont, then you can just make awesome music that no one knows about, like Dispatch.

I will agree with @redhotsuperfan. It is a fact that major label music is generalized and constrained. The labels wouldnt make any money signing a creative band that only certain people may like. In music, all roads lead to pop. Same thing happened with the beatles and many more bands from that era. same thing happened with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. If you want to make millions and have your songs on the radio and be well known, you change your style of music to something more "likeable"

My feelings are far from hurt, sir. I will not agree with you that you can throw a blanket statement over all major label music, especially with regards to Incubus. More than almost anyone else, they made the music they wanted to, and most of it is amazingly creative. I could rattle off a sizable list of such songs. Whether those songs get exposure, and whether a band makes those good songs are two different discussions. I could go further in-depth if I weren't limited in characters on here.

I regret top hurt your feelings but the last album of Incubus is mainly of cheesy songs, mainstream shit to catch the big public attention. You are ignorant If you think good music is advertised, except in accidental cases. If you definitely want to hear good music you must look for it, otherwise it won't come after you, which happens to bands that are part of the music INDUSTRY!

That's an ignorant statement, especially considering Incubus' history in particular. Yes, there are some cookie-cutter bands out there that exist just to pump out Top 40 hits, but this band is absolutely not one of them.

All I'm saying is that some bands choose to be part of the music industry, others choose to make just creative good music. You can't have both.

I think you forget that people themselves change.. their personal style in what they want to play changes.. i personally have stuck with them throughout the years, being a supportive friend. The music they create is NOT easy to play and their lyrics aren't cookie cutter even if you think their beats are.

Be funky in early days. Change your style. Become multi-platinum Alternative Rock band. Become poppy. Make shitty music afterwards. When anyone shows their distaste, silence them by telling them they need to get with the times and that bands can't make the same record over and over. Incubus/Hoobastank.
