Ok, I really need someone to explain to me why the choruses on this album sound so... weird?

I can't seem to put my finger on it, but it's seriously off-putting. With "Battles" and this one, the choruses just don't sound right.

Is it the production? The harmonies Anders is using? The scales? I dunno...

Thinking the perspective is knowing then what you know now. Wishing you could take advice from your future self.
