This one, battles in the north and Sons of northern darkness for me. Damned in black is also great. I like all of their stuff except blizzard beasts and last two albums. I also don't like Abbath's solo album.

Immortal is still in fact considered Black Metal because of their abstract lyrics and beliefs of no single God. But they consider themselves to be atmospheric metal but they mostly sing about Blashyrkh which is a state of mind all of their songs take place in.

@Fortuitous Daddy Hole Depends on the style of black metal though. Not all black metal is fast or has blast beats. First wave is more raw and heavily influenced by hardcore and crust punk and usually incorporates gutteral vocals. Listen to xantolol, they were first wave blackened doom from poland. Simple as fuck riffs but they had a huge dark atmospheric vibe to their music especially with the echoed gutteral vocals which are done by a female by the way.

Seeing as they have an incredible amount of thrash metal influence on this album, which is why it's considered such a masterpiece, I don't know if that's true lol. Either way it's one of the best black metal albums of all time as well as my favorite. :3
