It's one of my most favourite of them (which is hard lol, i love all of their songs) and i think that the lyrics mean something a bit else for everyone but at the same time they reunite us and our struggles and problems. I love this song and it means a really lot to me and i personally think it means a lot for Dan too. You can tell by the lyrics.

Also this song is so annoyingly undertated as well as Imagine Dragons and that pisses me off. No other band makes me feel the way i feel when i listen to Imagine Dragons. They feel like home. x

the lyrics are so underrated. They have a habit of having such powerful, meaningful lyrics hidden behind an upbeat tempo. But then they go and sing it acoustically in a gig and suddenly its like someone opened your ears and you see the song in a whole new light.

This whole album seems to have a lot to do with their faith particularly in the LDS church they were raised in. It has particular meaning to me because I too was raised in the church.

So I got halfway through the song before I had the same epiffany a lot of other listeners did judging by the comments section... The lyrics refer to "The fall" as leaves changing colours and everything slowly leaving for the coming winter.
So maybe "The Fall" refferes both to the season of Autumn _and_ a person breaking down?
Think about the season of Autumn: It's when the animals are starting to hide, when the leaves are falling, the world is getting ready for the winter season in which most plants die off because they can't survive the cold.
If you think about Fall, the season, it's preperation for mass hibernation and/or death, preperation for the lowest point of the year (from a biological point of view)
If you think about a _person's_ fall, it's their breaking point, the moment when everything in their life falls apart and nothing can save them. For some people, this might mean committing suicide. For others, it might just mean a complete and utter loss of willpower to do literally _anything_
And I just realised: Animals hibernating = Person's loss of willpower. Plants dying = Person committing suicide.
That got a hell of a lot deeper than I intended :/ That's what you get when you listen to nothing but Imagine Dragons for three days straight.
-also plants dying relating to suicide makes me think about Dante's Inferno but let's not go there-

That's a great insight. : ) Biblically, the Fall refers to when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and were punished. Since Reynolds was writing about religion, this could also be relevant.

Imagine Dragons are a diamond in a coal mine and it was truly an honor to discover their music and eventually meet them! This song is one in a million. Not only with the beat, the lyrics, but you hear so many other songs singing about the other seasons. You have PLENTY of songs about the summer (hell even Imagine Dragons themselves wrote a song about Summer), you have all these Christmas songs singing about winter and snow (white Christmas, winter wonderland, etc.), and you hear songs about spring break and such. This is the first song I've heard about Autumn, and that makes me extremely happy because it's my favorite season, as well as my birth month :)

I find this song deeply comforting. Maybe you just have to live long enough to release your fear of passing out of this world. A lot of people think of the end as a great loss. Perhaps it's the start of a great liberation. Call it God, the universe, whatever. I just know the great sense of gratitude and hope I feel when I hear "do you know, do you know you're all I know?"

I think this is a story about suicide. At the beginning he's talking about being depressed, but at the chorus his friends and family support him and he falls out of depression. And when he says "I'm ready for the fall." it's like saying he's ready to die.
And when he says "You were the one" it's like saying his friend or family member helped him fall out of his depression and start to be happy again, and how things will change in the future.

that's just what I think.

really though even their catchy, popular ones have a deeper meaning buried inside

For some reason I got inspired to write a fanfic based on the backing vocals in this song. And not just the distinct ones, there are some indistinct vocals that you can hear faintly near the end.
Well, I guess everything inspires me to write a fanfic.
Oh well.

I've always thought this song was directed towards the fans. The verses are about him questioning his life decisions and thinking about everything he'd heard growing up and that maybe he should've listened to them.

The chorus was then saying that he gets up on stage and tells the audience that they're all he knows now and that he'll always be accepted by them even when "everything comes crashing down."

It's beautiful no matter what it means. :)

When you realize Dan was depressed and questioning his religion when he made this, it actually makes a lot of sense. Should he stick to what he is told? Is he wrong about it all? Is he ready to let all his old beliefs go? Even the title follows the theme. I think even. or perhaps especially an atheist, can appreciate it.

According to Dan Reynolds in an interview with Illinois Entertainment (Which seems to be credible to me, but don't quote me on that) , He likes to think it's about his wife, not a breakup song but about how she was always there helping him through his doubts, hardships, his depression and everything. It only makes sense as a lot of the lyrics is about doubting the world and himself but the do you know your all I know, and then you were the one who helped me see only makes sense. Even though both Aja and him are divorced rn :/

It does make sense. I listened heavily to imagine dragons during the worst part of my own depression. I got to see this tour live and it was wonderful. I'm listening to it tonight and it has taken on a new meaning.. I always related to this song, but never as much as tonight. I heard him crying out to God in this song. I just have to say it, God is so good, more than good, He's everything. Because when I was struggling and without faith, I was listening to music by someone on the same path. 5 years ago, I didn't know that. Today, I do. I'm amazed. And crying because I can't believe how loved I am.
