@Ann White actually according to Iggy (in an interview I found online) they never dated, it wasn't sexual at all between them, they were buddies, Bowie greatly admired Iggy's revolutionary poetic visions and craziness, while Iggy was like everybody else on the planet. in awe of David's genius.

His voice is incredible in that song, but i wonder if people really get the philosophical meaning of the lyrics, " i try to break in (oh i know it's not for me) but the seize of it all makes me sad and ill" it's our world today with globalisation and internet, you think there are so many things, so many interesting people, but in fact it's just a world of emptyness, Iggy wrote this in late 70's...a genuis....
