Idina did not sing this because of Cory/Glee
She sung this because it was musicals week. She was in the original Broadway Cast of Rent and then in the Motion Picture adaptation.
Her Christmas album is called A season of love a play on this song which is also featured.
There's a possibility it of course could have combined with world AIDS Day. But as much as I love Glee this has nothing to do with Cory or the Tribute episode

Everyone was so surprised that she didn't sing a wicked song or frozen/frozen 2 song but people forget that Rent is the musical that launched her Broadway career. AND she had a Tony Nomination.
AND it won best musical 1996!

I loved that she did this. It's what I know her from and Rent has a special place in my heart. Plus, I don't think I've ever heard her sing it alone. I was still expecting Frozen though, seeing as that's what she's promoting atm.

Super powerful song choice for World AIDS Day. I know that Strictly (and it’s audience) has some way to go, but I really do think this year it took some really good steps in the right direction for celebrating everyone!! Johannes’ iconic dance in ‘Fame’, Michelle’s vogueing, Graziano and Johannes’ duet and Craig’s ‘Hello, Dolly’ performance have to be the best moments of Strictly 2019 🤗 Onwards and upwards!

Idina is a true icon, her voice is definitely tired now. She records well but her live singing has definitely fallen. It's not a bad thing. Voices do get tired, she's had a long career, she's pushed her voice to the limits on a daily basis for decades now, she's done amazing, and her voice not being as on point as it used to be doesn't matter.
It's a shame seeing people on twitter saying she can't sing anymore and she must have been autotuned for the new Frozen. This woman has worked hard, she spent a fair few years in Wicked belting out the big notes everyday. She deserves respect. Just because her voice isn't as strong as it once was doesn't mean she has to stop performing.

She released an album with this version on it and named the album A Season of Love. She was in the original Broadway cast of RENT (which this song is originally from) and that musical kicked off her career really 🙂 loved when they sang the song on glee for Cory's tribute episode, it was so touching and so well suited for Amber's belting voice
