Icehouse - Street Cafe Lyrics
If there were no tomorrows
If there was just one more chance
I'd take it again
You know I'd take it again
You turn and it's gone forever
You know that's love
It's only love
And no matter where the days have left you
Every day ends at the street cafe
The street cafe
And no matter where the road may take you
Every time it brings you back to the street cafe
It's where you have to be
Well the people may come and go but
Here the street and the scene is just
The way that it was
No nothing will ever change here
Maybe a smile reminds you
Now and again
You wonder now and again
When another night will take you nowhere
You go down to the street cafe
And any time you know the crowd can hide you
The days end at the street cafe
Yeah the street cafe
You turn and it's gone forever
In time you forget
You know that's love
You know it's only love
But no matter where the days have left you
Every day ends at the street cafe
The street cafe
And no matter where the road may take you
Every time it brings you back to the street cafe
Yeah the street cafe
Oh no no no
No matter where the road may take you
We'll meet again someday
You know we'll meet someday
Someday at the street cafe

Icehouse Street Cafe Comments
Old fav of mine.
Love it!!!
The audio on this is different from the album version I've always heard. Where's it from? It's way better than the album version...much stronger guitars, more pronounced piano. A superb mix.
Das war einfach noch Musik 🙂
Roxy music
!!!
Pure timeless gold from iva
i hear a distinct Roxy Music influence in this track
Definitely. I love Icehouse, but their influences were very obvious. Nothing wrong with that. Every band since the 60s have been influenced by someone else. At the end of the day, they made some fantastic songs. Nothing else matters.
You know when you think you have have heard it all... And I'm now 41...and when you hear this for the first time.... Wow
Mega Nummer und wirklich ein Ausreißer zu den anderen Titeln der Band... Zeitlos und ein Ohrwurm
der hammer
Dear Australians, you had a FANTASTIC music in the 80s!

The video has 'Hungry Like The Wolf' written all over it.. No surprise really, one of director Russell Mulcahy's many...
Davies could have been a jullionaire with that incredible vocal talent but went a different direction. Good for him.
I managed a record store in the U.S. in the early 1980's. Loved Icehouse's debut self titled U.S. album. When "Primitive Man" was released in the U.S. in 1982, I was blown away. Absolutely loved it! It got very little airplay here, but I used to play it all the time in my store. When I did, a customer would always come up and ask, "Who is this?" I would tell them and show them the album. 99% of the time, they would buy a copy. One of my distributors told me I was purchasing 10+ times more copies of "Primitive Man" than any other stores they sold records and cassettes to. I was selling almost as many copies of "Primitive Man" per week, as I was Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
Hideously underrated along with the Screaming Jets and Noiseworks. Saw them at Fremantle prison earlier this year, and that voice is still amazing.
Street Café is in Pakistán?
Why not?
I guess not
somehow he reminds me to Kara Ben Nemsi from the Karl May tales.
Indiana Davies
Sold not my shop. Not. Buying
Thank you Russell Mulchay for such .a great clip. He kind of put music video for Australia on the map.
it was a different time and place. The welcome inclusion of both creativity and originality in music was in abundance and songs like this classic from Icehouse made them stand out from their contemporaries. Mysterious middle east locations and scenes only added to the notoriety and made you want to be a part of it.
Superexcellent Song.
White man as colonial lord. You could see similar settings in Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet videos of the same era. Today it would be politically incorrect. Nevertheless I love it in retrospect. The song is huge and the video is great.
Best ever icehouse track!
Awesome song and amazing film clip.
What a classic. <3
Something about the video reminds me of 2007 at one of the bars in Kabul... misfits galore minding their own business but not really at the same time.
Iva Davies, in my opinion has some of the best vocal talent ever in pop music.
scott eaton couldn’t agree more, but we must acknowledge the fact that he also sported the most majestic & luxurious mullet the world has ever seen!! It was paradoxically both slick & feathered at the same time.
Agreed, the best aussie band!
I Love australia
It's Tunisia
'You turn and it's gone forever'......god I miss the 80's.
amazing video
Great song ! Iva Davies a true Australian talent
Should have 50mil views.
Reminds me of my fathers village in Cyprus. His best song
One of the best songs in the history of music
Buena la canción y el video también
I don't think theirs enough critisim here ,,more to come ;)
I love videos like this and The Stranglers' Golden Brown
This song is awesome on so many levels!
Die 80er: Als Musik und Gesang meist noch melodischen Anspruch hatten - Und diesen wunderbaren Schrammel-Gitarrensound! :)
My best Icehouse song. Great video and videography too.
Can hear a touch of Bryan Ferry in his voice in this song. Great song and great Aussie band.
Iva Davies can still Rock... Cold Chisel and IceHouse are still my favorite Aussie Bands
love it, always have
One of the best bands in the 80s. watched them Live in berlin Waldbühne 1981 or 1982
only 169K views preposterous!!
Reminds me of sitting at an old Newtown cafe, near the station and meeting a lot of great people.
Back in the days prior to wife, kids and responsibility I was into high end audio. I'm certain my neighbors didn't appreciate this song as much as I did playing it on $20,000 worth of equipment. For this kind of music it was worth it.
whoah u rock!
YOU R ONE OF A KIND
WOW I MUST B BORING WELL DONE WITH DA RAZORBACK SOUNDTRACK IVA
how amazing that iva saw this back then & look where we are now
Unglaublich guter Song
Que rolón. La guitarra al final suena majestuosa.
this song moves me so unbelievably...brilliant.
Ended up buying 3 copies of Sidewalk album, they kept wearing out.
Crank up da bass for dis one!
one of Icehouses best.
Australias Bowie Cant Stop Playing This Song
Great underrated song
excellent piece of rock music
Iva looks like a young Frank Sinatra
Just a bloody good song!.
Fuckin' nice 80's song
...znakomity numer 😊
Dają radę Australijczycy 😊
Love it
introduced to me by my immigrated cuz Tony from NZ.
Thanks Cuz.
ice house
we were priveleged enough to see them as flowers in perth supporting roxy music 1982 flesh and blood tour they well may have stolen the show incredible gig
Nice! I remember seeing INXS in heaps of pub gigs. Jon Farris was under age and had to get permission from his parents and the pub so that he could play!
the band originally started as The Flowers back in the heady days of early 1980s Aussie pub rock - sigh - Australia in the 80s! What a great time to be alive!
It really was a great time! Miss it.
Simon Richardson your absolutely right mate had the pleasure of seeing some of the best aussie rock acts along the journey these guys , rose tattoo, cold chisel, divinyls, midnight oil, inxs , fairdinkum the 80s when it was all about the music and the good times with a cold beer and good friends
It's friday night on George street, the Hoyts crowd on the front steps, winny blues in pocket and strolling the sidewalks you can hear the buzz of the arcades...yes i too remember.
Fat Cunt - no they won’t.
Good day.
ADAM YOUNG - true say.
another one of those great Australian bands from the 1980s - soundtrack of my youth!
Iva should have played a Strat or Tele on this. His Les Paul is too heavy for this one. What a talent though.
I love this Song!! 👌👌👌👍👍👍
I love this video!!!! So much going on here, like Indiana Jones. The explorer guy with the funny facial hair is working with the English-looking woman, to get something from Iva, but we don't know what it is. There are a few other things going on as well but hard to say, it's a few different eras represented. The older cars could put it in the noir era.
Love the mood this song creates, sends chills down my wobbly bits.
funny as f*** man!
One of the best Groups from Down Under
great video
Hungry like the Wolf anyone ? :)
such an awesome song
Yes, bands and record companies actually used to travel to exotic locations to film videos. You know, back when people bought records.
Question: doesn't the singer's voice put u in the mind of Bryan Ferry?
I think they were heavily influenced by Roxy Music
lol this lush opulent music has only 60 k views? Shame on you kids, get some hearing aids...
Oh no, is this remastered?Original sound is better.
Awesome video... suites the story line like none other i've seen. Old Tunis is evocative
I Love this Song! Great Memories on this Time!
Brilliant tune, brilliant voice. Love it!!!
here here
how can you not like this?
LOVE THIS!!
BOOM _ THX !!
For me it's the ANU Bar Canberra, 1984-2003.
nice bro. Brisbane Alexandra hills and the Gold Coast for me.
Das ist ein sehr guter Song! Er war von Anfang an meiner!
Mr. Bryan Ferry hatte ja auch seine Finger drin. Gut so!
I wonder what an Australian street cafe look like!
+Jeff Costello nothing as exotic I assure you :-)
I thought that place is Tunisia not Australia
One of those songs where everything comes together perfectly :-)
