Ibeyi - Oya Lyrics
Even if I feel the sun on my skin everyday
If I don't feel you
Even if I feel the most beautiful things up in the sky
If I don't see you
Even if my hand's skin catch the wind, catch the cloud
If I don't see you
Even if I feel the sun on my skin everyday
If I don't feel you
Take me Oya [x4]
Toi, le Soleil, l'Uni, toi qui parles à mon Coeur
Toi, le Soleil, l'Uni, mais qui pars sans moi
Take me Oya [x4]
Oya Wemilloro e [x5]

I'm here from the tv series underground season 2. I fell in love with that song 3 years ago. In the series underground she was so tired of being a slave and ashamed of being forced to be the master sex slave to make her kids comfortable in slave life, and just the hardships of slave life to where she walked into the ocean with a heavy log to weigh her down and tried to commit suicide. That's when they song was saying take me oya. Such a powerful scene to and also heartbreaking. 👍👍👍👍

The show Underground brought me here. Great scene with a beautiful song. The comments I've read here have made me realize why I loved this song as soon as I heard it. Now I've got new music to check out. I love that one thing leads to another.
*searches the horizon for new songs from Ibeyi*
Underground brought me here snd i don't regret it
2019!!! Oya take me!!!
A lot of people will be surprised when they find out about santeria .. and a lot of connections will be made back to why their name is ibeyi and they have a lot of songs about the yoruba traditional myths.
2:27 reminds me of that point in a movie where hero understands himself and become the hero they were meant to be.
How am I just hearing about them?! I love these gals 0.o
прикольно
Maferefun Oya todos los días de mi vida...
Je vous aimes les filles !!
They make me think to the wonderful Bjork
My brother who once lived on Earth asked me what this meant to me. This song spoke volumes of life to me, of what exists on this Earth exists because of me, and also because of everyone else, due to God, or in this case, Oya. The truth of life being that it’s special for each individual and each person is so important that when one person doesn’t do their part, societies collapse. That, brother, is what it means to me. R.I.P. Joey
such an amazing piece. love the depth of shadow to light. how did you acheive that?
I love reading these comments and learning about their culture. African culture is one of the most interesting in my opinion. I know they’re Cuban but as a comment states Cuba is heavily influenced by African culture. Also this music video is astounding
De sólo escuchar se me estremece la piel, Wow sublime. Madre Oya escucha mi canto.
Underground brought me here 😊
4th song Ive heard by them so far and I have liked every single one of them!
Es hermoso🌈⚚
"Take me oya" OYA in yoruba can be said to mean NOW or READY also the name of one yoruba goddess.
its the Goddess, they are Cubans of YORUBA ancestry
Take me oya and lbeyi👻😘😍🔮
my hair stood on end
First time hearing this song it make me cry & I don’t know why
This was the song on that show underground, when Ernestine was going to drown herself, powerful scene with powerful music
OYAAAAA
This is Yoruba. Most Afro-Cubans were taken from Yorubaland in West Africa. they have kept a lot of our original culture while Christianity and islam have - ironically and sadly - destroyed these cultures within Africa! When I see Cubans celebrating African culture that my parents never taught me, it makes me feel ashamed!
By the way, "Ibeji" mean "twins" in Yoruba. Yourubaland has and have had, for centuries, the highest incidents of multiple/twin births in the world. And we particularly revere twins.
"Oya" is the Yoruba goddess of storms.
I am a Yoruba man.Although born in England, I spent all my childhood in Yourbaland, in Nigeria. Before I die, I must, I will do all I can to unite Yoruba-Cubans and Brazilians with their African ancestry. I hope to work with anybody who shares this dream with me.
Forgive me for repeating this post as a standalone. It was originally as a response to another comment, but most people would not have seen it.
I just found this group and I'm so happy I found this talent omg
Brazil sends regards! Over here, Oya is also known as Iansã. Bless the thunder, saravá!
Mama Oya ⚡
i swear i just left my body
Coucou. Moi c’est Oya !
Take me Oya...
The mother of the 9 eguns.
Take me Oya...
The butterfly that soon can become a hurricane.
Take me Oya
Mother of the dead
Mother of the brave ones
Warrior who doenst fear anything
Please, give me strength to face the monsters of my life.
Epahey! ⚡️
Oyá 🙏🙏
La plus belle musique pour bader sa mère ❤️
I love this song
The visuals in this song, as haunting as the lyrics are sung. These girls, everyone of their songs is like a magic spell you can fall into and loose yourself in. I cannot put into words how impressed I am with what they have created.
wow i wasn't expecting French to be throne in to the mix super cool!!
please baby dont leave me
my lover my life please dont make me go away please dont leave me
I am now obsessed with both Oya and this song
Thank u I'm 42 and mother oya came to me in my dreams.. Now i learn all i can about her.. This brought tears to my eye💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Can someone tell me what the Yoruba part means? :)
such an incredible piece of work. I love this
Ya canlarım bana şarkı yapmışlar..
Hope no Christians are jamin to this song....they are good artists but this is basically a worship song to oya a "god"....... As good as they are I have to analyze each song to make sure I'm not worshiping anything other than the Trinity God.
Their music is so enchanting. Hauntingly beautiful.
These women are fucking amazing!
Some sounds are so beautiful words cannot describe. This song is one of them. It transforms your soul.
dope ass bomb diggity
Underground brought me here. Great scene.
I am as white as Wonder bread, yet this makes me feel my African roots.
They are cuban, live in french, sing in english and yoruba: planet music. Talent!
EPARREI, IANSÃ!
Anyone here because of the Underground?
The underground movie brought me here, I love the sun and this song.
Parece os anjos cantado, que trabalho lindo, great work 👏

Take me my mother Oyá.
ya comme un goût de Bjork dans cette chanson...
underground brought me here <3
Im Polish and I'm really interested in Yoruba coulture, can you recommend some more music like this? im beggin you! :D
For my Yoruba speakers. What does that line "Oya Wemilloro e" mean?
Oya is the Dark Mother Goddess of Storms and Destruction of the Yoruba People in West Africa as well as the Americas.Oya is the primeval Mother of Chaos, the destructive force of nature .She is the Wild Woman, the Force of Change. With Her machete and flywhisk Oya rips down the old in order to make way for the new.
Candice H did you ever get an answer? I have the same question.
how about you kids stop race baiting, and fucking enjoy the song. they didn't write, produce and release this to create drama about race and culture, they did so because they wanted to create art for people of all races, cultures and countries to enjoy and relate to. watch how dope the music video is, take in the lyrics, and feel the sounds and emotion. stop using this as an opportunity to fucking start internet drama and lecture others. you're being more disrespectful to their art and souls than anyone else here tbh
Maferefune OYA!!!!!!
God 😱 I'm shocked 😢😲❤❤
yeah <3
2:27 : Superbe !!
