His manager warned hers that she might prefer to perform BEFORE Bruce since he put on quite a show and audiences tended to be exhausted when he finished. Her manager had never heard of Bruce and she was a big star so he scoffed at the idea. When his opening set was over half the audience left and she refused to play NYC again for a long time.

I first heard the record driving on a Saturday from my new home in the suburbs to my job as a journalism teacher and publications adviser at the University of Chicago in Chicago. I immediately knew this was a song and here was a voice I would love the rest of my life. I immediately set about getting her albums from Canada (she was not being marketed yet in the States) and finding everything I could about this miracle of an artist. Nearly 50 years later I am still listening to her. I also acquired all the albums her brother Bruce did and her daughter Dawn did. A remarkably talented family.

This song always brings me back when my mom was still alive, she listened to this song all day long. She would sit on the floor, listen to it from our stereo/ 8 track player. She died at only 52 from cancer, and we played this at her funeral. So every time I hear this it reminds me of when she was alive and during great times in our lives. I miss you mom, very much.
