Ian, Janis - Janey's Blues Lyrics

Janey's down, can't get off the ground
Too low to fall, she can't come up at all
Hey, Janey's just an accident
Fatal mistake on the day after Lent
And her parents always say
"We don't need you today
"And we expect just the same"

She's got a blues-y feeling in her eye
And it's making her sigh
Cry... cry for Janey

Well, her mother plays on the golf course every day
And her daddy, he sits at home and plays with the maid
They've found the perfect alibi
Stay together for the sake of the child
You know, divorce don't fit
And they're too young to split
Think they're martyrs, but they're killing the kid

She's got a blues-y feeling in her eye
And it's making her sigh
Cry... cry for Janey

Now they put her down
And they knock it if she hits the ground
Next moment, grab a purse
And take her out on the town
It's either a hit or a miss in the fight
A slap by day, and a kiss at night
You know, their hating sets them free
Loving only wants to see Janey taking sides

She's got a blues-y feeling in her eye
And it's making her sigh
Cry... cry for Janey
Cry for Janey
Cry for Janey

Ian, Janis Janey's Blues Comments
  1. R.... ....

“No amount of soul searching would fix my past. There was no magical Band-Aid I could stick on my heart, no special glue I could use to make myself whole again. I had shattered to pieces like a fragile vase on concrete; some fragments could be roughly cobbled back together, but many of my vital parts had simply turned to dust, pulverized and scattered by the first gust of wind.”

I wonder what Janey thinks of the song? Janey Street, a good recording artist in her own right. Look her up!

“Be confused, it’s where you begin to learn new things.
Be broken, it’s where you begin to heal.
Be frustrated, it’s where you start to make more authentic decisions.
Be sad, because if we are brave enough we can...“S.C Lourie

  16. J.... H....

    Awesome!

Thank you for posting. All of these songs hold up extremely (and disturbingly) well. Change a few details here and there and nothing much has changed in our society in almost fifty years. One of the most stunning debuts by a singer songwriter ever.

    Fantastic.

this is one of those songs that really was a sign of the times ~ I absolutely love it! I sang it as my senior project in HS (a long time ago). I met Janis a few months ago at a show in FL & shared that with her. She smiled & gave me a guitar pick! Kool lady. Peace, Lori
