Ian, Janis - I Hear You Sing Again Lyrics
If I could only hear my mother sing again
If I could close my eyes and hear your voice as then
All the friends and family
Would sing along with me
And set your spirit free
In my heart I hear you sing again
Every note as natural as then
When I sing those songs
With family and friends
In my heart I hear you sing again
I know the troubled times that turned your hair to grey
And all the tears and sorrows followed to your grave
But deep within the heart of hunger
There were always melodies
In my heart I hear you sing again
Every note as natural as then
When I sing those songs
For family and friends
In my heart I hear you sing again
And it's a long, long road I've come
Since my mother's songs were heard
But the child I can't outrun
Still hangs on every word
In my heart I hear you sing again
Every note as natural as then
When I sing those songs
With family and friends
In my heart I hear you sing again
In my heart, I hear you sing again

My absolutely favorite Janis Ian song. Beautiful.
Beautiful song,
So beautiful. I cry every time I hear this.
kippenvel... dankjewel Janis... x
Beautiful.
Was feeling this earlier today..thinking as I age of my beautiful mom the piano player/singer and friends around the piano singing and drinking and having great parties, that I was lucky enough to grow up with ..thanks Janice..what a lovely song.
My sister and I had the pleasure of seeing Janis in a tiny venue, (one of many great times we've seen her) but THIS time, somehow we had front row center seats. When Janis sang this song, it was not too long after my father, a choir master, had died. We couldn't help crying, as quietly as we could, but my sister was shaking with the pain, and the tears. When the song was over, Janis stepped off the stage, knelt on the floor before us and held my sister until she stopped shaking. Wow.
there are tears in my eyes as I remember. Janis, thank you, so beautiful, so perfect so simple, so like the love you sing about. Thank you for sharing this beautiful beautiful song.
My favourite singer/songwriter and one of my favourite songs. The solo concerts i attended in the Netherlands over the years were mesmerizing from the first second tot the last and several years on a row i granted her to be the best stage performer alive (if not ever). Although she lost part of her magic since she abandoned her black guitars she is still one of a kind.
