Hyman, Phyllis - Loving You, Losing You Lyrics

In the middle of my life I had nothing to lose
No one to love now it's you I'm thinking of
You're a little of heaven to me
You're all I need it's my concern
There's a lesson to be learned
I thought I had the whole world at my feet
Now I know
That I was dreaming
I fooled around and lost the only one made for me
And now I'm sorry, oh so sorry

Loving you isn't worth the pain of losing you
Losing you isn't worth the pain of loving you
Loving you isn't worth the pain of losing, losing your love

You can label a man worth having it's up to me

This heart of mine has to live a second time
Take a little of your love from me
And I'll be gone
You're love to me is like honey to a bee
I stand accused of being what I am
I'm a fool and now I know it
This episode is ready to unfold
How can I begin to write a brand new story

Loving you isn't worth the pain of losing you
Losing you isn't worth the pain of loving you
Oh loving you isn't worth the pain of losing you
Losing you isn't worth the pain of loving you
Don't wanna lose you
Oh I

Hyman, Phyllis Loving You, Losing You Comments
  1. T.... T....

Mon20012020, the music sounds so much like MFSB. Phyllis Hyman has a voice purity that is far and beyond.

  2. L.... T....

    🖤💕🤎

  3. H.... M....

She was a great singer. For some unexplained reason she took her own life.

  4. T.... ....

The most underrated piece of music I've ever heard, to this day I'm marveled by that intro....

  5. N.... C....

Phyllis Hyman never really got to be noticed as she wanted. Unfortunately, that led to her committing suicide by overdosing on pills. If she had only sought God, she would still be around today. How sad.

    N.... C....

Nelson Cruz such a shame but she felt like she couldnt stay in this evil world

    N.... C....

@Angel Johnson Not wanting to stay in this evil world is one thing, BUT to take your own life is an evil sin before God.

    N.... C....

Nelson Cruz and she was mentally ill so

  6. T.... K....

Took me so long to find this song. Now I have everything I need to fight a fat racist black ninja...

Gone tooooooo soon! Thank you for the music💝

    B.... M....

Brenda Mlangeni she was beautiful and talented!!!

  28. W.... B....

Her tragic and early death moved me much more than other, more famous black artists dying naturally. Because it was put down to problems she had with her weight, can you believe it. Oh baby baby baby. Phyllis was an strident advocate of women's rights, especially in the music business, and was one of the first to go it alone, which makes it even more remarkable, the manner of her passing, we loved you Phyllis.

  29. W.... S....

Great music one of the most underrated singers ever, she was very much appreciated.

This song does something to my soul. SMH in disbelief!#phyllishymanlivesforever

  39. B.... M....

Yho this song, the ochestration here is brutal!

  40. T.... S....

This song expressed her personal struggles with love. Phyllis tried so hard to be kept but only experienced being left. The voice of songs told all of us that there were no guarantees in loving. I miss her jazzy voice and through her death; I fought my personal losses because she would have wanted all of us to remain standing.

  41. s.... k....

Beethoven's 9th Symphony especially the last part Ode to Joy is considered by many the best piece of music ever written, this song has to be a close second

  45. L.... B....

It was such a blessing to see this brilliant talented woman perform live. There will never be another Phyllis. RIP

  46. S.... P....

I had a friend every time I visited he was playing Phyllis Hyman songs. Millard died so now every time I hear her music 🎶 I think 💭 of him. May they both Rest In Peace 💎🎶😇🙏🏽❤️

    S.... P....

Santucci Pontarelli oh sorry to hear that

    S.... P....

The friend that introduced me to her also passed. He was an excellent singer and had the gift of hearing something once & being able to do a perfect imitation. Much as I miss him, it makes me happy to know both are singing in heaven. Cause you know that with all the greats we have lost, heaven is slammin. Think Whitney, Luther, Michael etc., greeting us with song one day!

  47. Q.... D....

This song's intro reminds me of the 70's when I was a little girl so much! I actually thought it was from one of the movies like Xanadu! LOL!

  51. R.... M....

One of the disco era's most beautiful songs. R. I. P. Phyllis

  52. h.... h....

"Loving You, Losing You" was the first single by Phyllis that I fell in love with.  Little did I know at the time, that I would fall in love with many more.  She was such an amazing talent; I don't think we will see anyone quite like her in our lifetime.  I will continue to cherish and play Phyllis's music for as long as I live.

    h.... h....

I loved her every since high school. This song all time when i was a teen

  53. J.... E....

    the best intro ever

    J.... E....

Joe Elvin puts me in a trance

  54. A.... W....

Phyllis was our first Whitney before Whitney Houston came along. I've always envisioned this song this ways during the beginning of the song with just the keyboards and kick drum the stage is dark. Then the violins come in after awhile the spot light comes on as the orchestra becomes a type of shadowy silhouette. Then the announcer welcomes the audience to the concert hall before finally introducing Phyllis Hyman who begins singing before she finally slowly emerges up through the stage floor dressed in her best gown attached to a beautiful train cascading behind her. The audience goes into a wild frenzy as her voice calms them down and the audience goes silent giving her all their respect and full attention.

    A.... W....

    Arthur Workman i agree

  55. P.... R....

And the lyrics you can only really understand if you've been there. Did Phyllis write this song or were people writing for her? Hmmm...

  56. P.... R....

    That Bass! Yessss....

  57. P.... R....

I am so in love. This is so beautiful... there's so much depth to the song that you have to have that fantastic intro... and then you're ready for everything she has to say. Omg.

  58. K.... H....

Looove this song!!! The intro is awesome, as are the chorus and the ad libs from 5:20 to the end....What soul!! I turned a millennial on to this song when I was playing oldies one day in the car..."Loving you isn't worth the pain of losing you, losing you isn't worth the pain of loving you"... She fell in love with it (puppy love). This is real music.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BY MSS HYMAN ....... SUCH A GREAT LOST NOT HAVING HER AS A PERSON AROUND ..... LOVE HER MUSIC

  78. D.... T....

This is one all time classic. I heard it on the radio in 77 when it had just been released. I wondered who the miraculous voice belonged to. I got the single on 7" and on one side was the edit and on the flip side was this full version but because it was so long for a 7" it cut very low and lost the power and I was frustrated. When I got the 12" on a later release it was cut so loud I was in ecstacy and I am now after hearing it just. Thanks for this.

    D.... T....

    David Trumper oh ok

I met Phyllis in NYC when this LP was released, Disco-Rama one of those old record stores, me always attracted to the sad blues kind of songs played this over and over, this was a Tom Bell (The Spinners) production. would have been great had Tom Bell produced this whole LP.

    M.... C....

This beautiful song was written by Thom Bell but was not produced by him. Production on this album was done by Phyllis's then husband Larry Alexander with Jerry Peters and John Davis. Thom did produce Johnny Mathis' version, released on the album "Mathis Is...".

    M.... C....

Michael Carmody so cool she is in a class all by herself
