Humperdinck, Engelbert - Les Bicyclettes De Belsize Lyrics

Turning and turning
The world goes on
We can't change it, my friend
Let us go riding now through the days
Together to the end
To the end

Les bicyclettes de Belsize
Carry us side by side
And hand in hand we will ride
Over Belsize
Turn your magical eyes
Round and around
Looking at all we've found
Carry us through the skies
Les bicyclettes de Belsize

Spinning and spinning
The dreams I know
Rolling on through my head
Let us enjoy them before they go
Come the dawn, they all are dead
Yes, they're dead

Les bicyclettes de Belsize
Carry us side by side
And hand in hand we will ride
Over Belsize
Turn your magical eyes
Round and around
Lookin' at all we've found
Carry us through the skies
Les bicyclettes de Belsize

His work is reminiscent of the genre of music I played at my first radio job in New Jersey in 1970...I learned appreciation of the music of him, Sinatra, Bennett, Percy Faith and other "standards" artists.

  12. p.... r....

Mason and Reed wrote some of the most beautiful music of the late Sixties/Early Seventies, several masterpieces which Engelbert delivered so eloquently. Engelbert should have had greater chart success than he did; he delivered some really wonderful songs to the public. 1/2019

  13. T.... 1....

This song is like riding a roller coaster in slow motion. The only noise is his voice. Close your eyes. Smooth. Romantic. The best voice I know. 🎶💖🎤👤🎵💋

Why was he not made a sir he entertained so many people

  17. M.... H....

I have no real proof of its meaning, but it seems like the song is referring to: Soon, the end; tomorrow being separated by war..perhaps the Berlin wall ..or the Swastika carriers, if you know who I mean (didn't want to use the other N word here)...I guess it's because of the lyric: "Til' the end"...Otherwise what 'end' could that be referring to ? There was a song in the 50s called "West of the Wall" by Toni Fisher, which does has this being-pulled-apart, meaning..
That's why I say this about Bicyclettes.. Anyone else ever thought that about this song ?

  18. C.... G....

had not been known to carry out a bloody coup and had to obey ourselves after losing power over a french race who had lived in the area of austria adolf hitler and to listen to a speech made by adolf hitler and and there were so many more in the B and C and D groups and the dead that are commonly reported that weeping about many of their own tribes died in the dead. There were so many dead in Germany during the wars and the First World War that the replacements of one small field alliance had replaced the original existence of those who started one small field and pleaded with the unions, and strangers could not beat Adolf Hitler because they did not know Adolf Hitler law knows unions beginners one small field beginners knew.

Les Bicyclettes de Belsize is a 1968 British musical short film (30 mins) starring Judy Huxtable and Anthony May. It was directed by Douglas Hickox, and played on cinemas as a supporting feature to Roy Boulting's controversial horror film Twisted Nerve. The two films also shared a soundtrack release, with each score occupying one side each of a 1969 Polydor Records album (Polydor 583 728).

It tells the story of a young man (May) cycling around the Hampstead (NW3) area of London on a Raleigh RSW16. After crashing into a billboard he falls in love with a fashion model (Huxtable) depicted on it. Despite the title, the Belsize Park area does not actually feature.

There is almost no spoken dialogue, and the soundtrack to the film is heard virtually throughout. The title song of the film, written by Les Reed and Barry Mason, has been a hit for Mireille Mathieu and Engelbert Humperdinck (a top ten hit in the UK and a top 40 hit in the USA) amongst others, though the version in the film is sung by Johnny Worth (aka songwriter Les Vandyke). The score also includes "'Gentlemen Of The Park", performed by Episode Six and featuring future Deep Purple members Ian Gillan and Roger Glover.

I used to work at a popular discotheque in Beaverton, OR called "Earthquake Ethel's" back in the late 70's and early 80's, and before the disco music started we would have ballroom dancing and this song was one of the waltzes that my girlfriend and I would dance to. That's when I first heard it, but never understood what he was singing in the chorus, and then years later I type in what it sounded like he was singing, and found it... Great song, great voice, and really good memories...

Remember hearing this back in 1971, 2 times on the radio. Could never find the record. Forgot about it. 35 years later in another country, I placed an order at a fish and chips shop near where I worked. While waiting for the meal, this song began to play. I recognised the opening bars immediately. Goosebumps ran up and down my body several times, I began to sweat, my heartbeat went through the roof. A few days later I managed to round up a recording of this song, and it is now on a cd compilation of mine. The best treats take time in coming to your heart. I hear now why EH was so popular with the women. And some of us men also. Thank you EH for this great rendition.
