Saw Humble Pie at the old Amp in Chicago in 72' or 73'.....? One of the best shows I'd ever attended. And loudest.....and rowdy. You could see kids streaming in thru windows, vents and kicked in doors. Why in the world they never achieved a spot at the top of true Rock royalty I'll never know.

Steve Marriott - never bettered, never even equalled as a vocalist. His talent was unique. His best product came with the Small Faces, a Giant, who, if he had been managed right would have been better than any musician of his generation. Love the man!

I just hit 57 years old and out of nowhere, "found" small faces and humble pie - even though I saw them live in the 70's at St. Albans City Hall. How the hell did I miss them and why don't we make rock n roll like this anymore......

The original by Small Faces much better, its no Sweet peace and time...)) By the way that big song growes in 1968 and was the only great song by Small Faces for me.

i dont know where you get the idea that Steve Marriott had a large ego. i was lucky enough to meet him just months before he died, and he was fantastic, charming, funny and friendly. we were snotty kids starting out in a band, and he took time to talk to us. top class geezer and forever missed.

steve capel I agree the guy never had an ego of sorts but he was very single minded, before he walked out on the Small Faces he tried several times to convince the other band members to let frampton join to fill out the guitar sound with one eye on becoming more of a rock band because he knew that was where the future lay......unfortunately they couldn’t be convinced leaving the door open for the Who and Led Zep to become stadium hoppers The Small Faces could of been up there with them had things been different.

Humble Pie was the first concert I went to. Back when Peter frampton was something like 17 years old! Warm up band...Montrose! Wow...some great memories there!

Todd Rundgren does a very nice version of this song on his "Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect" album. I'd forgotten that this had been written by Steve.

Not much i like about Humble Pie, I LOVE Small Faces with a passion. I collected all of their songs. Such a sad story for Steve. R.I.P. I hope u play to God everyday.

@Glorify27 i can remember seeing steve marriot afew times at the royal standard walthamstow shortly before his death and after sharing afew drinks with him at the bar i have never come across any musician with less of an ego.he treated the fans like mates and rocked that place.

This is the 1st time I ever heard Humble Pie play this. I only got to see them once in the 70's in Houston when I was a teen. I am not sure it has been so long but I think they opened for Grand Funk, Unfortunately I was a crispy critter and don't remember a lot of any of it. Blame it on the psychedelic 70s man.

I remember humbie was trying to make a come back in the early 80's with little fanfare. I thought the new album was pretty good. Remembering buying the album long gone now. It had a WW2 aeroplane shot on the cover. I think it was call Victory or something like that............

Yeah,check Small Faces out. Before forming Humble Pie, this was Steve's previous band - IMHO excellent band. There is a very cool video of Tin Soldier (a TV performance) a colour version with young Steve and PP Arnold. - easy to find - first video in "RELATED VIDEOS" on the right site of this page.

but if you wanna hear the original it is on the Small Faces album Small Faces (US release) or the later released The Autum Stone which was a best of released after they broke up

Have you heard Terry Reid, he's incredible, maybe as good as Steve and that's as good a compliment as can be paid to any singer.

Steve was great on Easybeats tunes Friday on my mind ,and Good Times.

"Go For The Throat" is probably the better album of the two. "On To Victory" has some good tracks, but the mix isn't very good.

Awesome version! Does anyone know what Pie album this is from, 'coz I'm gonna have to get this ASAP. Everone talks about Steve's voice and guitar playing (and quite rightly too), but he was a sodding good harp player and so underrated as a songwriter.

My cover band did this song in the 60's. It usually fit in pretty well between Love Me Two Times (Doors) and You Keep Me Hanging On (Vanilla Fudge). And it was a total blast to do.
