Humble Pie - Black Coffee Lyrics
Black coffee is my name
Black coffee is not a thing
Black coffee, freshly ground and fully packed
Hot black coffee, boys, mmm that's where it's at, mean it.
See I got hungover before I was 10
You see my skin is white but my soul is black
So hot black coffee, that's where it's at.
(Black coffee) That's what I'm talkin' about boys
(Black coffee) That's what I mean
(Black coffee) Ooh you've got to feel it in your hand
(Black coffee) Hmm yeah
(Black coffee).
Some black tea, well it can't compare with me
Black tea (can't compare with me) that's right
Black tea, well it's as good as, it's as good as, it's as good as it can be
But it's a cup of black coffee that a working man needs to see, yeah.
In America, well it's the land of the free
You can get what you want if you've got some do re me
Well travelling far and I work like a slave
Now I'm independent, and you know I get laid.
I got me a job and I build me a place
I got a spit of black coffee, oh how good it tastes
I said a dime is all it costs in the States
For a cup of black coffee, how good it tastes
(Black coffee) Alright
(Black coffee) Oh
(Black coffee) It's what I want now, it's what I need
(Black coffee) To suit my soul, to suit my soul now
(Black coffee) It's what I want, it's what I need
(Black coffee) It's where it's at, it's where it's at
(Black coffee) Oh

Humble Pie Black Coffee Comments
This has been one of the best groups ever!!!
Steve Marriott is a Soul God on vocals !
I like when marriot sings "you see my skin is white, but my soul is black" and one of the girls gives a look like "hey boy" haha, love humble pie so much, RIP steve.
The guy at the end was like “dang I am proud to be British”
Lyrics
Black coffee
Ooh
Is my name
Black coffee
(Black coffee)
Is not a thing
Black coffee
Ooh,
Freshly ground and
Fully packed
Black coffee
(Black coffee),

And I know
Way back you all know
Since I don't know when
See I got hungover
Before I was 10
You see my skin is white
But my soul is black
So
Hot black coffee,
That's where it's at
(Black coffee)
That's what I mean

It's as black as it can be
Black tea
Come on
(Can't compare with me)
I know
Black tea,
Well

Well
Ooh
It's as good as
It can possibly be
But
It's a cup of black coffee that
A working man needs to see
Ooh

And you know I get laid
I got me a job and

I got a stack of black coffee,
Oh
How good it tastes
I said a dime is all
It costs in the States
For a cup of black coffee,
How good it tastes
(Black coffee)
Alright
(Black coffee)
Ah

Talking bout that

Sing it Stevie!!!!!!
Pure unadulterated vocal brilliance and superb backing singers . ❤️
What a performance
The Voice... Damn
That's rock and roll, mixed with Blues! Marriott was a magican
Humble Pie e incrível !!!!
How can you write a song with these lyrics and think "yeah this is a great idea"? This is the dumbest song ever.
Allia Nasim have you listened to much modern music and it’s woeful lyrics just out of curiosity? Besides, it’s a cover
Going out on a limb to say their influence on the Black Crowes must have been massive.
And Robert Plant
Like I said before your choice of music is awesome you rock rocks Cousteau
Wow that hit the spot! Timeless classic here from Humble Pie and the Blackberries. They nailed the vocals perfectly. Love that fat warm Les Paul sound, and with a slide too!
Loved Steve Marriott! Excellent, soulful voice. He was very handsome in this video💙💙💙🙏👆
Nice but no cover can compare to the original by Tina Turner 😩☕️
16 people have never tried a cup of strong black coffee
Steve Marriott might be one of the most underrated front men ever. Great voice and no slouch with the axe.
ok, #1, i love humble pie, #2, is it just me or does anybody think norman reedus could be steve marriotts kid?
that guy is peter frampton? PF was in humble pie?
Peter was in humble pie but only till '71. This is his replacement, Clem Clempson
so sicckkk
Genius...
"My skin is white but my soul is black." I had scarlet fever for two weeks my senior year in high school in 1973. Humble Pie Live got me threw it.
I honestly think Josh Kiszka could pull off a cover of this song...:D
I recently heard a cover of this by Rival Sons, and as great that one is, this is by far the best version to me. Even better than Ike and Tina's.
This is monumental. Stevie Marriott well...what can we say? Stoned and untouchable eat your heart out Paul Rodgers & Robert Plant. Those BlackBerry singers are beautiful and amazing
True 70s Class
Steve Marriot the original Paul Weller.
And Paul readily admits it!
That chap makes the hairs on my neck stand up he is electric.... he wont be ever be topped i feel its fair to say
Great!!!!
Love his own twist on the Tina Turner song - genius
That voice
Boy sure can sing
11 imbeciles with the 👎 have no taste in music it seems
How can anyone dislike this masterpiece!!!!!! Love Love Love it
No words apply.
Was just listening to the studio version, which is great! But you tube is about live performance and this is as good as it gets.
And rod became a global superstar
Unreal song, but surely that edit right at the end was done on purpose hahaha "And that was black cock"
That's why I prefer to listen to live music over recorded one. You get to experience the whole thing. It's kinda sad tho, most of the these days bands are horrible at performing live
Best voice ever
Poor Jerry Shirley (drummer) didn't get any face time in this vid...
Because drummers are not respected..without Jerry Shirley's drumming, this song falls apart.
Steve Marriott what a voice! One of the coolest men ever. Swoon
Was that great or was that great? Them Blackberries knew what Steve was talking about alright... brilliant :-)
Marriott was high as a kite at the time. Lit up like the fleet, but there's nothing wrong with that. Classic performance, so it's just a shame that beardy Bob had to get his oar in at the end. Kind of takes the edge off it somewhat.
I know, LOL, he was making some weird faces like he was going spaz.
It's Bob's fave performance on OGWT
Discovered this via last night's marathon three hour Old Grey Whistle Test on BBC Four. Never heard the song before and had heard of Steve Marriott but not heard very much of his music before. This song is amazing. What a voice. Brilliant!
Listen to early Small Faces, highly recommended
Find Shakey Jake on YouTube and be just as amazed by this band, pure class,
Mc Donald's HOT
There's something about Steve Marriott ..we jus t can't get these days*
You can. You just have to look for it; before those people give up in frustration. The corporate spoon won't feed it to you.
Yeah,On cue,on time and in tune.
dont worry, winwood lives still.
randall scott burress black Crowe’s come about the closest bud
@Walruswhale You have great taste sir. Both the greatest Brit male vocalists ever - choosing between them is like asking to choose a favourite child. ...
very, very, very cool ....
and very few(if any of) the british music press botherd to mention his death.
HE IS SO FUCKING INTO THIS. I CAN'T HARDLY STAND IT, it's so good.
phew! what an unbelievable performance
Can't stop watching this. Steve was such a talent <3
This is the ultimate version of the song. Tina is great but this rock's it a bit more. I love Steve Marriott. It's been 25 years since his passing. What a huge loss.
It's the Land of the Creeps
You can't get what you want if you've got some Don't Rape Me.
What eejit disliked this? Really?
He should be put to sleep
'eejit' ..you have to be Irish? :)
Superb!!
Rock On
Yeah, that was incredible.
Wonderful!
Sing it!
I could listen to this all night, god bless you stevie r.i.p.
Steve Marriott knew how to sing blue-eyed soul.
He sounded like Robert Plant on this Zeppelinesque hit single.
Robert Plant WISHES he sounded like Marriott.
The interaction between Marriott and The Blackberries (the woman vocalists) is fantastic! God Bless The Old Grey Whistle Test!
Marriot's vocals are insanely good. Sad that while this showcases that maybe better than anything i've seen, you really have to listen hard to hear just how amazing it is due to the fact it's buried buy the guitars. IMO he is probably the greatest rock/blues singer that ever lived. Tone, feel, control, he had it all in spades.
Right on!
