Huey Lewis & The News - Trouble In Paradise Lyrics

Billy's home, he just back from LA
Plenty of lines but nothing to say
Seen this movie and it don't end nice
Looks like trouble in paradise

He used to be cool he used to laugh a lot
Down at the brothers in the parking lot
now he's sick, and he's scared and he's paying the price

[Chorus]
Trouble in paradise
Trouble in paradise,
Momma said he always was so nice
Trouble in paradise

American son he's not very old
An American dream that's never been sold
The smile on his face is his last disguise
We've got trouble in paradise

There's a scream inside that shouts here I am
Some people say you we've got to do all we can
Me I don't know you see I've been there myself once or twice

[Repeat Chorus]

Five long years since I wrote this song
Many people dying, so many gone
Tender loving is my only advice

[Repeat Chorus]

Trouble in...

Huey Lewis & The News Trouble In Paradise Comments
  1. D.... D....

I had this on VHS back in the 80s played it everyday and danced all around how could you not LOVE HUEY??

  2. K.... L....

Russo on ALTO! Those altissimo notes!!

  3. m.... ....

Best live Sax 80's style. What can you say about this song?? One of the best songs recorded in time. Happy, joyful and full of innocence! 80's no doubt one the most joyful times of my life back on Long Beach Island NY!

  4. w.... g....

house os Billy Los Angeles, Ita Billy back Future ?

  5. G.... Y....

Whatever happened to Huey? Such optimistic music for an optimistic time! Come back!

  6. P.... S....

This song blows ! This is the best use of horns Ive ever heard ! Somehow a reminder tune just as good then as now !

  7. C.... ....

Incredible! Huey and the boys could rock back in the day! I'm a massive prog rock and classic rock fan- even some metal- but nothing could match Huey's energy. It's disappointing that nothing in modern music, besides maybe The Arctic Monkeys, comes close to this!

  8. G.... Y....

Pure gangster on the sax! Wow.........

  9. M.... ....

This is so awesome. (Insert comment about what modern music has come to)

  10. R.... J....

    Amazing Sax solo

  11. w.... s....

Plenty of lines but nothing to say, he said, "I
Seen this movie and it don't end nice"

    Looks like trouble in paradise

  12. L.... S....

Is this song about a young guy that goes out to LA and makes it big doing comedy or some thing and runs up a lot of debt to some bad people? Then the guys are seeing him running home trying to get away. That's why the song ends with "five long years since I wrote this song, lots of people dyin'.

  13. C.... D....

Barton band my ass! These guys are a proper stadium rock band! !

  14. J.... 1....

Saw them at SPAC on this tour. Great times.

  15. T.... K....

Johnny Colla and Marc Russo are amazing - "HE'S BLOWIN' NUTS, MAN!!!"

  16. M.... G....

When this came out in,85 (my grad year) I started feverishly working on the entire sax solo, from Johnny's 1st half, right in to marc's solo. Didn't stop until I could play the whole thing through. Fingers sore and lips bleeding at first. but I figured out all the fingerings, up to the hight G# in the outro.

  17. j.... s....

    Best live clip ever

  18. J.... J....

Huey Lewis is a great singer, great debut album, he's been very great since his days in Clover

  19. c.... ....

I love Huey looking over at who I assume is Johnny Colla around 2:59….."DAMN!"

  20. J.... M....

I've listened to this song every day all year long!

  21. L.... K....

  24. W.... P....

    W.... P....

  25. V.... R....

    La mejor banda

  26. S.... 1....

    BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

  27. M.... L....

This band had so much talent.

  28. K.... ....

My favorite song by these guys.

  29. J.... G....

Such a wonderfully structured song and it starts with Bill Gibson's swing pocket and less is more fills. Love his playing...but yeah, that sax solo: perfection.

    J.... G....

    mmm hmmm!!

  30. M.... ....

Kirk Pengilly from INXS is another great sax player, as was Clarence Clemons from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.  I love Huey Lewis and The News, INXS, and Bruce Springsteen, among others.  They all have so many great songs.

    M.... ....

    For sure!

  31. J.... P....

Very talented rock band. No question about it

    J.... P....

    Damn right!

  32. C.... P....

I saw this tour or the year after, at the Orange County (NY) Fairground/Speedway! Great show!

    C.... P....

    Jealous!

  33. F.... R....

track del cd We Are The world

  34. N.... W....

Those 80s were some great times going out meeting people working out at the gym . Today people have to go online to get attention they crave so much 👎🏻. That's sucks being a crave slave to online Internet chat sites via Twitter Facebook Instagram Snapchat the list goes on and on oh yeah KIK 😩😁

  35. R.... S....

my 20 plus yr marriage. ..be like this song

  36. s.... ....

Marc Russo still brings tears to my eyes- his shit is so soulful here!

    s.... ....

    +saxnova Greatest ever!

    s.... ....

saxnova Definitely one of the sweetest rock sax solos on wax!

    s.... ....

    No love for Johnny Colla?

  37. P.... M....

Aaron, it may be the Kabuki hotel in San Fran. Guessing.

  38. m.... ....

The combination of Huey Lewis with Tower of Power was like the best rock music combination ever. They should have a reunion tour since both groups are still active and touring. I would go see that. Huey is Still a Young Man. Please email Huey and Emilio with this suggestion. I already have.

    m.... ....

mitchdavis8308 I read they been wanting to tour together but their schedules have not allowed it but maybe this year's the year

  39. D.... R....

Just the best!! Marc Russo kills it on the sax solo. I remember hearing this on the We Are the World album back in the 80s and wore it out. Tower of Power rules the world!!! To answer their question...this is hip.

    D.... R....

@Dan Ratner He is incredible in that solo, no doubt. Haven't heard it in years, but wow! It's a good thing that Johnny C played his solo first. I mean, he's no slouch by any means--but how do you follow THAT?!?!

  40. A.... W....

I can't figure out what he's saying at :49. "Down at Kikabooki in the parking lot"? I tried Googling it but I can't find anything but the original lyrics.

    A.... W....

@Aaron Wright They are playing the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco, the original lyric is "down at the brothers in the parking lot"

    A.... W....

They are changing it according to the venue.

  41. D.... ....

Now that is a band that can play! Live, and as tight as a drum from the horns to the harmonies, damn I miss these guys.

    D.... ....

    Me too!

  42. C.... D....

This is them on top of their game!! What a band guys! Where do you see this anymore ...

    C.... D....

.....On YouTube.  Imagine what the rate of incarceration would be in this country if we were repeatedly forced to listen to the 'talent' corporate radio is feeding the masses these days?

  43. f.... r....

    HOLY FUCK
the sax is so badass dirty

    f.... r....

    Way too bad bro!

  44. K.... W....

    my fave by them!

  45. j.... ....

We based our high school airband on this concert video, we had the whole thing on vhs.  check out sisler huey lewis airband 1986 and see if we did it justice.  too bad the video quality was so bad back then.

  46. C.... P....

Marc Russo's high notes are staggering. I remember the first time I heard this; almost ran my car off the road.

  47. S.... i....

Marc Russo and Johnny Colla plays Alto Sax not Tenor.

  48. G.... ....

I love listening to this. It's my second favorite Huey Lewis song.

  49. M.... S....

    Classic

  50. T.... ....

Best sax solo in rock n roll history, period.

    T.... ....

No one can argue... Many years watching this vid, I still think about Marc Russo's solo on the Sax! Jesus...

    T.... ....

    I was THERE ! AMEN

    T.... ....

Watch Loggins and Messina's live version of Angry Eyes.

    T.... ....

@Thabo Bagwasi Damnit man this cat can blow! This might be one of best sax solo's ive ever witnessed! The one that grabs my heart n melts it is Clarence Clemmons live solo on Springsteen n E Street band's live Drive All Night tune from 1980 show. Tears flow when i listen to big man's beautiful, melodic notes.

    T.... ....

    yes sir

  51. C.... ....

By far the best recording of this song ever captured!

  52. K.... J....

    Go Johnny !

  53. T.... ....

This song has such a great, theatrical sound to it, like it could be the credits song of a play. Also, DAMN, that sax solo! Hard to believe people these days think of "Epic Sax Guy" and not "Tower of Power."

  54. M.... R....

    I still am !! and look at me, a 53 yr old geezer !! I'll never be a dis-loyal fan . .

  55. M.... S....

    Classic

  56. C.... B....

Is the full concert of this available?

  57. R.... L....

No such person as Larry Politzer...It was marc russo...current tenor player is Tom Politzer and he is also amazing.....this video was done in1985.....but yes, Johnny Colla and Huey Lewis were amazed by Marc Russo's ass kicking solo....It is the best I have every heard! Their response to it is a tribute to live....non digital....non auto tune....real music!!!!!!

  58. R.... L....

That is Marc Russo. Back in 1985...Tom Politzer is the current lead sax player and has been for about ten years....Steve Grove, Richard Elliot and Norbert Statchel have had their time as well as others......Marc Russo is the only alto player to ever be hired by TOP and I am glad he filled in for a while.....for this solo alone!!!!!Holy Shit!!!!

  59. M.... ....

I thought that was Doc on Bari Sax. Thanks for reminding me. I agree the sax solo is one of the best crafted ever.

  60. m.... h....

Tower of Power Sax Player Larry Politzer. After his solo, Johnny Colla looks at him and freaks. T O P is the best!

  61. K.... ....

Such a great all around feel good song. I won't even attempt to analyze it; just enjoy it!

  62. I.... H....

Somente para quem tem bom gosto de musica...Canta muita, o solo do Saxofone O melhor do mundo .....show !!! bons tempos, quando existia musica de qualidade....

  63. R.... P....

    Not their best song.

  64. M.... ....

this is a super track.listening to sports this weekend and it,s incredible to think it,s 30 years old.it,s being reissued on amazon in a special two disc set 30th anniversary edition which is the best news this year! i hope they put this track on as a bonus, unlikely as this was on the we are the world album two years after sports but hey ya never know.jeff on rules of engagement cracks me up when he referred to the News as being tight that night at the garden in 85'!.tower of power kick ass!!

  65. C.... ....

Huey Lewis and the News are back in the studio and out on the road again WOOHOO. I get to see them live for the first time on June 8 in Anderson, IN. I can't wait. I only wish the Tower of Power could be there as well but just seeing Huey with the News is awesome enough.

  66. M.... S....

    Classic

  67. A.... ....

    That bassist is so cool...

  68. i.... ....

Omg....that Sax break from 2:12-3:02 is KILLER!!! Yeah!

  69. M.... S....

    Classic

  70. D.... ....

One example of a live version of a song sounding beter than the studio version!

  71. l.... ....

Marc Russo! That man is a beast on the alto! What great altissimo!

  72. i.... ....

My 11 year old Grandson is taking sax and has been for about a year...I've shared these with him today hoping to encourage and inspire him to go for it all the way to the top. The Tower of Power are awesome and the other lone standing sax player is wonderful too. Fabulous band.

  73. i.... ....

Omg what a hunk of a man that Huey! I love all the horns in here and then "Bad IS Baaad " Huey on his harmonica? shewwwwwww huh uh ;)

  74. s.... ....

For those sax players that want the solo transcription, it's available for a whole $2. sax-solos,com solo #2999. Not my site and not affiliated. Just a fan of the guy's work.

  75. s.... ....

Greg Adams, Mike Cichowicz, Doc, Marc Russo and Mimi.

  76. s.... ....

Close - it's "Take one more, coming still as good advice"

  77. T.... B....

Can someone help me solve a 27-year mystery? What is Huey singing at 3:10? "Ten one more 'cause it's still, yeah, it's good advice, hey!?" I mean am I hearing it wrong, or did he just forget the lyric? Anyway, greatest rock song with horns ever (tied with Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder!)

  78. R.... K....

I saw him live and screamed this song when he was asking for requests. Unfortunately, he played "Jacob's Ladder." Lame.

  79. w.... ....

I don't know which sax solo is better, this one or Foreigner's "Urgent". Both kick serious ass.

  80. M.... R....

esta 100000 veces mejor esta version que la original la original no le llega ni a los talones a esta version

  81. M.... R....

I was grounded for getting bad grades in school. My walkman and cassettes were taken from me and I used to sneak into my stepmonsters (stepmom number 1, there were 5) bedroom and dip into her stash of my music and walkman and pop in the We Are the World album and listen to just this song. It gave me goosebumps, listening to the live audiences response.

  82. D.... H....

That is what music is missing now a days! The sound of a smooth Saxophone!

  83. r.... ....

2:44 Wow! Marc Russo, not content with the high G, pushes that alto sax through the roof, hitting not just the B-flat above the high G, but even managing to squeek-out the B-natural ABOVE that!! Awsome!

  84. r.... ....

Is that a young Greg Adams on the left (playing trumpet) in the horn section? Man he looks different now, but then again, this was recorded almost 30 years ago. Time flies...just like the title of Huey Lewis and the News greatest hits album.

  85. N.... ....

Huey came to my fair it was sooooooooooooo cool to watch him :D

  86. P.... ....

marc russo's last tone on that solo is so darn tight!

  87. k.... ....

holy smokes! what a performance, what talent, and huey is a great live performer .... no wonder the crowd was going wild, i would have to if I'd been there. thanks so much for posting this.

  88. m.... ....

    Now that's a band

  89. B.... F....

@slashdelbarrio funny thing is i also play drums and i was thinking the exact same thing...lol

  90. B.... F....

the sax solo in this song was absolute talent...he took that thing to a whole other level...i dont even know what else to say about it...this song is on my greatest hits album and this was the first time i seen the video....im floored by it...listening to it is one thing, but seeing it in action....WOW!!!!

  91. J.... f....

Gran voz la de Huey , pedazo de concierto :)

  92. G.... ....

Wanna quit drums and grab a Sax

  93. H.... P....

@CircleCityEric This IS the version included in the USA For Africa album. I know this version by heart and it was my favorite tune from that LP.

  94. D.... H....

I was born in the wrong decade, why couldn't I have been a 80's child growing up?

  95. j.... ....

This live performance is just sooo good. Unbelievably tight, and bloody hell, Marc Russo blows that sax another asshole!..
The 80's had some of the most talented musos who ever walked the planet. Fantastic stuff !!!

  96. M.... ....

There's another guy who loves performing. That's what makes him so great. Just like my other favorite singer, Michael Hutchence from INXS.

  97. l.... n....

Everything else held up alright in here

    Except sports by Huey Lewis

  98. n.... ....

At first, I listened to this song on "USA gfor Africa" albam. Nice one!

  99. f.... ....

sweet feelings from the 80s. great time with great bands. Love it.

  100. w.... ....

what the hell is he singing at 3:11?
