Hozier - To Noise Making (Sing) Lyrics

Remember when you'd sing, just for the fuck of it?
And any joy it would bring
Honey, the look of it was as sweet as the sound
Your head tilt back, your funny mouth to the clouds
I couldn't hope to know that song and all its words
Wouldn't claim to feel the same we felt the first time it was heard
I couldn't name that feeling carried in that voice
Was it that or just the act of making noise that brought you joy?

You don't have to sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but, honey, sing it strong
At best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along

So honey, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing

Remember when you'd sing before we'd move to it?
And we'd scuff up our shoes, honey, the groove of it
Was whatever you choose
"I Wanna Be Your Lover" or "The Fisherman's Blues"

You didn't always sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but, honey, sing it strong
At best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along

So honey, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing

Who could ask you be unbroken or be brave again?
Or, honey, hope even on this side of the grave again?
And who could ask you to be sound or to feel saved again?
Just stick around until you hear that music play again

So honey, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing
So honey, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing
For the love of it
So honey, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing
For the love of it

Remember when you'd sing, just for the love of it?
And any joy it would bring

This song actually changed the way I sing, now I actually sing and act like an idiot when I do, bopping along to Sweet Music while wandering through the corridors. Now at karaoke I don't wait for someone else to go first, this song is my default. I used to say 'haha no I cant sing' even though I am pretty good at singing, now when the teacher calls for someone to sing I'm up there, humming, dancing, singing whatever I need to. This song is also a coping mechanism for me. I was in a car crash a while back and still get sort of panic attacks but singing helps, singing is calming, it's a beautiful release that anyone can do no matter who, where, when or how. Sing loud and proud or sing quiet at home. Just sing for the love of it.

Honestly shocked this hasn't been posted yet but okay.

    To Noise-making (Sing)
    Hozier

    [Verse 1]
Remember when you'd sing just for the fuck of it?
Any joy it would bring, honey, the look of it
Was as sweet as the sound
Your head tilt back, your funny mouth to the clouds
I couldn't hope to know that song or know its words
Wouldn't claim to feel the same we felt the first time it was heard
And I couldn't name that feeling carried in that voice
Was it that or just the act of makin' noise that brought you joy?

    [Pre-Chorus]
You don't have to sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you'll find a little remedy
At worst, the world will sing along

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Verse 2]
Remember when you'd sing before we'd move to it?
And we'd scuff up our shoes, honey, the groove of it
    Was whatever you choose
"I Wana Be Your Lover" or "The Fisherman's Blues"

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Bridge]
    Who could ask you
Be unbroken or be brave again?
Or, honey, hope even on this side of the grave again
And who could ask you to be sound or to feel saved again?
But stick around until you hear that music play again

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    LYRICS ~~
Remember when you'd sing, just for the fuck of it
    Any joy it would bring
Honey, the look of it was as sweet as the sound
Your head tilt back, your funny mouth to the clouds
I couldn't hope to know that song
And all its words wouldn't claim to feel the same
We felt as the first time it was heard
I couldn't name that feeling carried in that voice
Was it that or just the act of making noise that brought you joy?

You don't have to sing it right
    Who could call you wrong?
You put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along

So honey sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing

    Remember when you'd sing
Before we moved to it and we'd scuff up our shoes
Honey, the groove of it was whatever you choose
I wan't to be your lover, or the fishermen's blues
You didn't always sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
You put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along

So honey sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing

Who could ask to be unbroken or be brave again?
Or honey hope even on this side of the grave again?
And who could ask it to be sound or to feel saved again?
Or stick around until you hear that music play again

So honey sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing
So honey sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing
Sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, sing (For the love of it)
Sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing, and sing (For the love of it)
Remember when you'd sing, just for the love of it
    Any joy it would bring

    Brilliant.

  39. A.... ....

This just drags me in. I zone out when I listen to music usually, only hearing a bit of the song. But this song drags me in and demands to be heard. And then when I listen it feels like home. But different. Like his music just wants to make a home for everyone, just make sure everyone is comfortable and welcomed. I wish I had discovered his music earlier

  40. M.... 2....

"you don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong" its just such a raw fucking line. bless the bog god

    Lyrics from Genius.com

    [Verse 1]
Remember when you'd sing just for the fuck of it?
Any joy it would bring, honey, the look of it
Was as sweet as the sound
Your head tilt back, your funny mouth to the clouds
I couldn't hope to know that song or know its words
Wouldn't claim to feel the same we felt the first time it was heard
And I couldn't name that feeling carried in that voice
Was it that or just the act of makin' noise that brought you joy?

    [Pre-Chorus]
You don't have to sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you'll find a little remedy
At worst, the world will sing along

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Verse 2]
Remember when you'd sing before we'd move to it?
And we'd scuff up our shoes, honey, the groove of it
    Was whatever you choose
"I Wana Be Your Lover" or "The Fisherman's Blues"

    [Pre-Chorus]
You didn't always sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you'll find a little remedy
At worst, the world will sing along

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Bridge]
    Who could ask you
Be unbroken or be brave again?
Or, honey, hope even on this side of the grave again
And who could ask you to be sound or to feel saved again?
But stick around until you hear that music play again

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

I used to be awful at singing but now everyone says I have a beautiful voice. And I think so too, and it's because of Andrew. Thankyou!! I love you so much and your songs are amazing xx

  66. A.... B....

I hope Hozier does a live video recording of this at Newport -backed with the Berkley Gospel Choir like he did for Work Song.
Maybe a version same speed but with more Funk?? What version would Prince have done I wonder. Its a funky dance record about Singing!
Its such a positive song - it makes me Sing! Go Crazy - its a great song.

SOMEBODY HELP WHY DOES THE “at worst the world will sing along” PART SOUND SO FAMILIAR AHHH 😧😧

  78. .... ....

    [Verse 1]
Remember when you'd sing just for the fuck of it?
Any joy it would bring, honey, the look of it
Was as sweet as the sound
Your head tilt back, your funny mouth to the clouds
I couldn't hope to know that song or know its words
Wouldn't claim to feel the same we felt the first time it was heard
And I couldn't name that feeling carried in that voice
Was it that or just the act of makin' noise that brought you joy?

    [Pre-Chorus]
You don't have to sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you'll find a little remedy
At worst, the world will sing along

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Verse 2]
Remember when you'd sing before we'd move to it?
And we'd scuff up our shoes, honey, the groove of it
    Was whatever you choose
"I Wana Be Your Lover" or "The Fisherman's Blues"

    [Pre-Chorus]
You didn't always sing it right
But who could call you wrong?
To put your emptiness to melody
    Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you'll find a little remedy
At worst, the world will sing along

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Bridge]
    Who could ask you
Be unbroken or be brave again?
Or, honey, hope even on this side of the grave again
And who could ask you to be sound or to feel saved again?
But stick around until you hear that music play again

    [Chorus]
    So honey, sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing
    Sing, sing
    Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing

    [Outro]
Remember when you'd sing just for the love of it?
And any joy it would bring

  79. R.... ....

    Empowering.

  80. R.... ....

This song just sounds like pure adoration and acceptance of someone for being themselves, and it breaks me down because I know no one will ever love me like that as I have for others in the past.

    R.... ....

Lily Raimey! You do not know that! No one possibly could! Love yourself first, to the grand extent that it's enough. People love to love people who love themselves. Cheers, lovely. <3

  81. j.... a....

I really like this song a lot but there is a mistake...
In 3:05 the backup vocals dies off or gets cut off.
It's within a split-second, however, if you replay it over and over again, you will find it.

    j.... a....

They die off its like that

  82. J.... ....

This song makes me want to sing and dance and cry and just be happy in general even though the whole ass world is going up in flames. It makes me want to be me

  83. S.... S....

    When he says 'Strong' though.

  84. B.... J....

This whole album is amazing but this one song is the one that will always make me stop and just feel it. “Put your emptiness to melody, your awful heart to song...” I don’t have to be a perfect person, this song is for me just as I am.

  95. h.... c....

this song is the most genuine and beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. the upbeat tone, his voice, the ending part w the beat, but mostly the lyrics! We are humans and we are flawed but this song reminds you don’t have to be perfect, you don’t have to “sing it right” you just have to enjoy the moment and being alive. God bless hozier :)

  96. P.... P....

    *blessed*

  97. l.... g....

    I’m addicted to this

  98. L.... W....

Swear he’s the male version of me. All of his songs correlate with different parts of my personality and they all include that type of empty darkness (if that makes sense). “Dinner and Diatribes” touches on my sexual side. It literally explain “the kind of love I’ve been dreaming of”, where theres constant teasing and need. This one touches on my love for singing, especially when I’m down. And that’s just to name a couple. I love him so much. Don’t think there’s a song of his I dislike.
