Howlin' Wolf - Killing Floor Lyrics
I should'a quit you, long time ago
I should'a quit you, baby, long time ago
I should'a quit you, and went on to Mexico
If I ha'da followed, my first mind
I'd'a been gone, since my second time
I should'a went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
I should'a went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
I was foolin' with ya baby, I let ya put me on the killin' floor
Lord knows, I should'a been gone
Lord knows, I should'a been gone
And I wouldn't've been here, down on the killin' floor

Howlin' Wolf Killing Floor Comments
Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, the Stones and The Who...if not for them, I'd, like, be selling insurance somewhere. Nothing wrong with that...but I'm better off.
howlin wolf+hubert sumlin=deadly combination
You gotta have the blues to play the blues. Long live the Blues!
Ten and stimpy ending credits song anyone?
Dam this is 🔥
He was influential beyond belief. Should receive royalties from many people.
Zeppelin stole it
Howlin wolf completely ripped off led zeppelin on this one
Ummm.... Led Zeppelin was many years later 😂
@Candy P it was ironic though
Grooviest fuckin jam he knew how to wiggle those fingers!
Breakdancing music
One of the greatest blues singers of all time very underrated
SOB!! I can actually hear where the early Stones got their act from!! This thing R-O-C-K-S !!!!!! Thank you YouTube.
Lenard Chess was humming this guitar riff and none of them could play it on guitar. So while they were all half drunk at the studio at 5AM they send Willie Dixon to go get Buddy Guy. Buddy came in the studio, Lenard hummed the riff, Buddy nailed it in too takes and the rest is history as they say.
I came here after reading a reference to the song in the latest Jack Reacher novel "Blue Moon", and obviously a bit of an Easter egg as well because the first Jack Reacher novel is titled "Killing Floor".
GNX157 damn, ,me too!
Loving this
Albert King sent me here.

Led Zeppelin performed "Killing Floor" live in 1968 and 1969, and it became the basis for "The Lemon Song". In some early performances Robert Plant introduced the song as "Killing Floor"; an early UK pressing of Led Zeppelin II showed the title as "Killing Floor" and was credited to Chester Burnett (Howlin' Wolf's legal name). Led Zeppelin's version was performed at a much slower tempo (until the bridge) and with some different lyrics. After legal action by Howlin' Wolf's publisher, his name was added to the credits for "The Lemon Song". CLICK ON LINK - https://i.imgur.com/SOeB96W.jpg
I'd never heard this song until Jimi Hendrix covered it at the Monterey Pop Festival 1967.
Ren & Stimpy!!!!!!!
I love any song that starts off sayin i shoulda quit you a long time ago
Yeah, THIS IS GOOD. Check the bass guitar playing on, Cream, Crossroads, with head phones ( ..er any Cream track,.. ). Quality, or,..?. Check, you may not know, Ainsley Dunbar and the Boys, Sugar on the Line; it's cooler than cool. Check, Johnny winter, just about any,..check,...King Bee, Slim Harpo and any,..any Elmore James,..Big Bil Broonzy,..piano gone,..er,..well,..???,...
Who would think a black man was gonna define the style of a lot of world famous artists and bands... racist people of those times would be feeling real dumb right now
Ren and Stimpy?
This is the song jimi beat eric with
900th comment
we play this one at the Slaughter house...goes well with screaming pigs!
There should always be Joy on the killing floor.
Nice do you smoke meth and rape them first
This is nice to dance to
" #54 on Rolling Stone all time greatest' is actually pretty good for the moloch worshipers even though he was one of the fathers of blues and rock , imitated by many .
I love the drums in this song
Love the rhythms going on here. Kind of off-beat sounding but perfectly timed.
"Syncopated" is the fancy term for that.
Gotta jungle rhythm
Foda Foda Foda
Right away this reminded me of the ending theme to Ren and Stimpy
Cause the ren and Stimpy ending theme was based of this
I kind of figured that especially with the title and all
I shoulda quit you
A long time ago
I shoulda quit you, babe
A long time ago
I shoulda quit you pretty mama
And went on to Mexico
If I had'a followed my right mind
If I'da followed my right mind
I'd a been on the corner
my second time
Lord knows, I shoulda went home
Lord knows I shoulda went home
When my best friend come at me
play it at 1.25 speed, that's how Hendrix did it
Led Zeppelin copied it as the lemon Song! But damn I would’ve copied this song too;)
Jimi Hendrix covered this tune back in '67. If that isn't a proper tribute, I give up.
Wolf's original Chess studio version of this is by far the best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C4PsXoFslM Nothing else even comes close.
The monster. Howling Wolf was the monster of Rock ‘N Roll. A genius, and the greatest blues singer of all time. Just ask any British group, especially Eric Clapton and that blues cover band called Led Zeppelin. Shame on this 135 who gave this man a thumbs down. Why?
What version is this? Sound different to original.
This is rap
uuh funky drum!
Sounds like tarantino movie
Rock n roll stole so much from the blues. Watch Cadillac records it shows the start of all this and how groups like led zepplin, The Beach boys, and Elivs rip off their songs. little walter, muddy waters, howlin wolf, and chuck berry basically made rock what it was back then.
The Wolf is THe GOAT
The wolf is legendary
I don't listen to Howling Wolf every day but when I do so do my neighbours
Hmm. Don't go there.!!!!!!! Get off a my Cloud, Stones,....my neighbours help,.!!!!!,....NO taste,.!!!.Check, Rory Gallagher, Taste, Tattoo,..( ..GB spelling,..OK,..??,.. ).
Epic comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Window is open and sound bar is 6 inches away and maxed out. seriously
What a fresh joke... 🤢
Led Zeppiln plagio
Ren and Stimpy brought me here 👻
So good. So, so good.
Precious record
Anybody else hear a bit of lady Madonna in this one?
Sloll slideslllliver 🎶☁🎲☁🎲
Jimi Plays Monterey
missed me some live wolf back in the day. my bad.
He's not " under rated" to me cause as far has the blues are concerned , over all impact he's on the top level . problem is he and many others are under appreciated . Problem is when CNN does a " special " it's NEVER one of the many great black blues performers that created the blues , soul and rock and created the blue print for modern American music .
Howlin Wolf tremendo Armoniquista del Blues un Maestro total! !!!!!
Quem veio aqui por causa do video do Régis da um jóia kk
Its only the lyrics that are the same as zeps lemon song, music is totally diff
I hate that this man's contribution in world music is so underrated....
OG version. Set your ears straight kids
Eric sorry man. xD
Like si viniste por jimmy endrix
these drums are tight
People should consider that the blues in the states werent as recognized as it shouldve been. British kids loved and appreciated the blues, to the point where they formed their own bands. All music is evolved and morphed from previous music, just as chicago blues evolving from delta, and delta evolving from both african and white folk music. If the british bands never did what they did, blues and rock would not be where it is today. They also opened up worldwide white audiences to artists like howlin wolf, buddy guy, ect.
Those drums are pure rock/funk. Heavy. My fav part of this song is the drums.
this is a good version
'I should have quit you along time ago.' Why didn't I listen to this song. It would have saved me a lot of heartache, the cheating bastard.
i can relate
You don't think that maybe SRV heard Hubert Sumlin a few times?
Wolf was # 1 on the blues set.
https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=mcasa&p=rolling+stones+howlin+wolf+sessions+sleeping#id=2&vid=caf6501b08fa6a8d96dce889c757c7d0&action=click
If you have half a brain and some semblance of intelligence, you'll see that other than borrowing a fraction of the lyrics the songs are ENTIRELY different. Jone's baseline is WAY more complex and diverse, Pages riffs, fills, and solos have NOTHING to do with this song, and there's breaks and tempo changes in The Lemon Song that don't exist in this song. 99% of The Lemon Song has absolutely nothing to do with this song. This song has no variety and just chugs along on the same basic blues I IV V over and over again--same chords, same tempo, same vocal line. Hell, there's not even a bridge. There are a hundred songs that use these exact same chords. So if you want to get technical, Howlin' Wolf has ripped off hundreds of blues players that came before him. Study music before you open your ignorant yap.
This is where Lemon Song by Zeppelin came from If memory serves me correct.
Can still be played today and still kills the floor.
I
The Lemon Song was a tribute to Howlin Wolf ,Zeppelin made no secret of this,if you think you just discovered a *copy* you just don't know the story
Zeppelin can’t shine wolfs shoes.
Oh they can. Don't be silly. What they did was incredible.
His voice sounds almost other worldly like he's from a different planet or something. They didn't call him "Howlin' Wolf" for nothing,
what a man !!!!!!
Love me some Zeppelin, but this is slammin' too.
There would have never been a “British Blues” or a Zeppelin if not for this monster. He was god singing to the masses.
No stealing here, it's simply putting your own imprint on the music. Many blues songs actually just came from other songs. Led Zepplin simply put their own imprint. There's no such thing as stealing music if you made it with your own imprint, and still leaving the original parts and feel of it.
Lanceランス I agree with what you said about the blues but couldn’t disagree more with your final statement about nothing being stealing if you put your own imprint on it. So I could switch up a bit of the feel of Stairway to Heaven but keep a lot of the arrangement, lyrics and guitar work the same, and I won’t have to credit Led Zeppelin? I didn’t know it was that easy.
@Tim Brecker i agree, but stairway isnt blues. lance is right- a big part of blues culture is borrowing from other people and transforming it to make it your own. its how we keep the blues alive, and i suppose the lawsuit led zeppelin faced really goes to show that its not about blues anymore, its about money.
Does anyone else hear “Lady Madonna” similarities here?
Lady Madonna was stolen off Bad Penny Blues anyway.
EASY CUM EASY GO
blues + Rock&roll = América
Los Rolling stone alado de Howlin Wolf, son unas niñas con listón rosado y tomando té
not a fan of rap music, but i'm honestly surprised no one has done a cover over this.
This is the version Wolf cut in 1970.
It is so much hotter than his 1964 original:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C4PsXoFslM
Jimis version is awesum
He is cool!!
Real deal
