Howard Jones - Lift Me Up Lyrics

I've got your picture in the palm of my hand
And I'm squeezin' it I'm teasin' it
I'd follow you to the edge of this land
But I'm losin' it, confusin' it

This is a man who has lost control
Lost the road to a higher soul
Stop me from fallin' you know I need you

To lift me up
Won't you lift me up yeah
Won't you take me to a place that I once knew
And when you can see
You've always been there for me
I'm waiting for your love

There'll be a time when all our rhythms of love
Are shakin' it we're makin' it
There'll be a place where life is livin' to give
This harmony it will come to me

And when I think of those who love you now
If I had my chances again somehow
Stop me from fallin' you know I need you
To lift me up
Won't you lift me up yeah
Won't you take me to a place that I once knew
And when you can see
Another side of me
I'm waiting for you

I'm not eating I'm not sleeping this tension this worry
You don't call you don't write me
I need your love in a hurry
Teach me, Reach me, Meet me, Beat me,
Tease me, Please me,
Come and seize me

This is a man who has lost control
Lost the road to a higher soul
Catch me from fallin' you know I need you

To lift me up
Won't you lift me up yeah
Won't you take me to a place that I once knew
And when you can see
You've always been there for me
I'm waiting for your love
And when you can see
The changes I've made in me
Well I'm waitin' for, you know I'm waitin' for your love

I was in high school when this song came out, loved it the first time I ever heard it!

  2. S.... S....

Sooo nice! And it wouldn't surprise me if Howard got an offer to join Mike + The Mechanics, just hearing this song.

I knew there was a Howard Jones song that I loved in the nineties and finally tried to find it. This was it! What a song and an amazing video. I remember this song wasn't around too long, but it is sure sad to have a song/video like this that the masses haven't heard or seen. Great job Howard.

His best song for motivation. Thanks Howard.

  7. K.... G....

Why wasn't this song more popular than it was? I just don't get it.

  8. K.... G....

Nearly 30 dumb people did not like this song. Idiots.

  9. C.... C....

I need Tanya Roberts love in a hurry! PS gimme Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith too

  10. K.... Z....

My favorite song from him -- and I love pretty much all his songs.

  11. S.... P....

The 80's were happier, joyful times.....

    S.... P....

Yes and so was 1992 when this song came out, and probably the early 90's as well.

  12. K.... G....

How was this tune not way more popular than it was?

    K.... G....

Expect everything to be a hit?

  13. J.... O....

  19. R.... ....

What is your favorite Howard Jones song?

  25. g.... m....

    Súper clásico

  26. B.... ....

    1:46 It's Christian Bale!

  27. P.... O....

    Croeso, Howard

  28. 8.... M....

If this had been released at the time of his purple patch of hits in 1984/85, it would have been a hit. But then again it has a early nineties more mellow vibe that would not have fitted the more metallic sound of the synth heavy eighties. I have just contradicted myself. Oh well, never mind.

    8.... M....

How do you know it wasn't a hit?  I heard it on the radio.

    8.... M....

@MIKECNW It barely made the Top 40 in 1992

  29. A.... ....

    Something of a country vibe...

    A.... ....

    How so?

  30. P.... H....

    also Great ViDeO

  31. P.... H....

what a great feel good song from back in the day. why does music of today have to be so nasty.....

  32. z.... ....

Wow! What a great video, great voice, excellent sync.

  33. 3.... W....

As the "late" truth-speaking comedian Bill Hicks once said: 90% of ALL MEDIA is puerile CRAP! This is the other 10% :-)

    Great Howard

  37. X.... H....

Those computers looked state of the art at the time in 1992, but probably were worthless by the early 2000s, much less by now lol.

The computers may have been clunky compared to today. But the singers and the songs were light years beyond us.

  38. A.... G....

    wow great song.Thanks

  39. R.... D....

I always liked this song.  A man that has lost control because the girl is making him CRAZY.  He can't think about anything else but her.

  40. M.... V....

Great song and video. Thanks for posting this!

  41. b.... ....

Am I the only one that sees the video and thinks that maybe the makers of Forrest Gump got some ideas from it?

  42. a.... r....

another of Howard Jones songs that is brilliant ! but a useless chart position of 56!!!!!! where were the fans queing up in the record shops?

    a.... r....

+alan rabjohns they where queing up to buy edale hello crap song hello lol

    a.... r....

+PAUL CRESSWELL wtf dude? This came out in 1992 lol. I think the new wave 80s pop sound was fading away back then, hip hop and alternative rock were taking over. Adele didn't even come out until 2011!!

    a.... r....

It was Nirvana's time by then.

    a.... r....

Really, #56? This song and video combo is much more than brilliant. I didn't buy this CD when it came out even though I loved the song, so I'm part of the lack of success of it. It seemed to disappear off the radio in no time so I must have forgotten about it. I just found out about it today, and it is now my favorite music video I've ever seen.

  43. J.... K....

His Best. Human Racing # 2.

He is good friends with Nik but oh so different

  44. S.... D....

I think the sax player might be Jimmy Dorsey...

  45. S.... D....

    Very cool video.

  46. W.... M....

Honestly, this tune couldn't have been better than this ABSOLUTE version.  I totally dig the band/s in the b/g and how HJ is superimposed into them.  A feel-good song, to say the least, and one of my favorites by Jones.  Thank You so much for this posting of a classic Howard Jones gig!

  47. v.... ....

This song came out the year I graduated from High School. Still wonderful after all these years!

  48. J.... B....

PS-Love the video (first heard this in '92 when it came out)!

  49. J.... B....

    Great tune!

  50. G.... Y....

Does anyone out there know the names of the movies that are included in this video?

    G.... Y....

    Apparently not.

  51. T.... ....

One of my favourite songs ever - and what a video. This should have done much, much more than it did.

    T.... ....

I agree! Definitely a unique video. It gives the feel of a 1940s-50s jazz club and also some of the old black and white films from that era and before. A great song as well, of course! Both are awesome!

    T.... ....

This is a one of a kind song and video. I remember I loved this song when it came out in the 90's, but I had no idea this video was ever made. Another great hidden treasure in this world that only few people know about.

  52. L.... ....

    excelente!!

  53. a.... ....

    Awesome
