This was a great debut album through in through. An innocent and melancholy album that is seldom heard on am album in 2019. Where to begin: "You Give Good Love" was about the hope of finding a true love. You could feel the pain of "Saving" where the married man slips away from her and breaks her heart when he fails to promise to be free for her as well as take good care. "All at once" was just beautiful. "Greatest Love of all" about self acceptance and even the high spirits "How Will I know" is a cute innocent number about a shy girl hoping her crush gels the same. 1985. Times were different. No female artist today of the age of 21 which is how old WH was when she put out this masterpiece can put together something so beautiful. She had the grace class and self poise that I don't know if it when will be found in another female artist again. We as the world really ought be ashamed of ourselves with where we're at today thinking it should be allowed and acceptable to live and treat others as w e do. It is never ok to hurt rumor disrespect or put down another human being no matter who or what the excuse is...I really think the hate and jealousy of those around Whitney is what slowly led to her demise.

Pfft Jermaine didn't discover her! This is simply just a duet. She was already publicized having Aretha Franklin as a god mother, mom Cissy as a legendary gospel singer, and Americas #1 vocalist at that time Dionne Warwick as her cousin.

@Ken Aretha Franklin was never Whitney's godmother. Cissy Houston said so in her own words on tape and in her Book,'Remembering Whitney'. Whitney was singing as backup with her mother but she was never officially given a contract. Jermaine was signed up with Clive Davis to record albums and to be a producer. Jermaine heard a tape of Whitney singing in a bar and told Clive he would like to use her on his album. Those songs with Jermaine was Whitney's first official recordings, then Jermaine introduced her to the public arena! Jermaine did at least 6 Duets with Whitney! Whitney also did backup on sone of Jermaine's songs.

I hadn't listened to this song since maybe...1987?  When I heard it the other day, the lyrics struck like lightening, much like love struck me a few months ago.  At 45, I found the most improbable love in the most unlikely of places. No man has ever captured my heart like this before, now I just hope that he will take good care of my tender, middle-aged heart. I don't know if my time will come. I give and give until it hurts and I'm not happy and I'm still flying solo at 40. I don't know what I have to give or prove that my love could be very good for someone. I know I have a lot to offer but they don't and it makes it even worse for me. Undertalented? I think that part of the tragedy of Whitney was overly commercialised pop output for much of her career. She was so much bigger than many of the songs that she sang. Somewhere along the line she got bored of being a pop superstar, and lost sight of her musical heritage. The drugs started and never ended because of the people she had in her life - her family and BB. Whitney always seemed to have low self-esteem and was unable to take full control of her career and life.
