Housemartins, The - There Is Always Something There To Remind Me Lyrics

The teacher's name was Charles
He made me feel like Jack
Thought Martin was late
'Cause he sat right at the back
Thought my name was Peter
The time that I was there
I told him it was Paul
But he didn't seem to care

Drawing moustaches and glasses
While on the 'ruling classes'
Drawing willies on soldiers
From Berlin to Damascus

It shouts out loud
I'm more than you
...

Making bombs in chemistry
And catapults in craft
He thought I must be far too
Down, for this class
He even told the caretaker
I didn't want to pass
And he agreed he'd seen me
Cutting 'cross his grass

Would he keep all the marbles
He'd taken in that year
Would we stormtroop the staffroom
And pinch his cans of beer

It shouts out loud
I'm more than you
...

There is always something there to remind me
Of something that I should've left behind me
It taps you on the shoulder in a que
It shouts across the street, I've more than you
There is always something there to remind me
Of you

It shouts out loud
I'm more than you
...

Housemartins, The There Is Always Something There To Remind Me Comments
  1. B.... C....

One of the most underrated bands ever.

  2. R.... 1....

    Such a great band!

  3. L.... S....

I was so pissed off when i heard the sad news that The Housemartins had split!! Damn they were my heroes!!

  4. D.... W....

    I am in this video...

  5. p.... r....

Love this song, it was their 'swansong', UK release - don't believe it even charted, a real shame!

    p.... r....

+paul rawes It went to 35 on the UK charts.

  6. M.... ....

    Thanks for this one

  7. M.... A....

This was shot at my old school and no, I never wore that blazer... evil place that was!

  8. g.... ....

your book its kind of poor , morrysey sold millions this losers only a few thousands , these are less remembered worldwide so you see they are right far from the smiths

    g.... ....

    housemartins y wild nothing,,, nice

  9. H.... ....

I can see why you would think that, but Paul Heaton is humourous and Morrissey is just a misery. Makes all the difference in my book.

    H.... ....

Modchic84 ... I love them both, as well as many other forms of music. Mozzer seems glum, but there’s a wry and knowing wit in many of his songs (yes, and indeed in Smith’s songs).

    Just enjoy it all

    Have a good day!

    H.... ....

@Steven Champion I don't remember making this comment, but can definitely see the wit there now, and loved The Smiths even then, despite how it sounded!

  10. g.... ....

i allways tought this guys where a smiths copycat

    g.... ....

You couldn't be more wrong. These guys are kind of goofballs, the Smith were miserable, suicidal. Both were great bands!

  11. D.... ....

I've always loved this song, one of my favourite bands of all time. It came out when I was still at school; I wished someone would come to my school and film a great pop video. The only famous people from ours were Victor Spinetti and Eddie Butler and they never wrote any decent tunes, ho hum.

  12. c.... b....

brings back bad memories from school .

  13. g.... ....

Finally found this song! I remembered seeing a music video as a kid where some kids cut across his grass... Thought it might be a housemartins song. My brother had a VHS with all their videos on where they got attacked by a sackmonster... The sack makes appearances in some of their videos....

    g.... ....

The sack monster is Hugh the bands first drummer who left the band after the first album and was replaced by Dave, you can see Dave kidnapping Hugh in the video for 5 get over excited

  14. D.... ....

this is not the song "There is always something there to remind me"

  15. T.... ....

    Smiths-like...

  16. r.... ....

@toonz666 How about the Bare Naked Ladies or as i like to call them, the fat House Martins.

  17. m.... ....

@TIMOTHYSAARINEN agree now they are manufactured artists

  18. m.... ....

Huh. Not the song I was expecting from the title.

  19. W.... ....

Have no idea what's going on but it's pretty awesome! =)

  20. s.... w....

  24. T.... D....

I loved this song. It reminded me of school. "something that I should've left behind me".

  25. k.... ....

seems like you didn't learn much at school. Well, at least not English!

    dis: has a 't' and a 'h' before the 'dis' and in fact doesn't contain a 'd'.

  26. D.... P....

Is there anyone please that can translate this to English

  27. P.... W....

  29. l.... ....

    Bloody marvellous.

  30. 5.... ....

I love it one of the housemartins best.

  31. R.... H....

difficult video to consider...the band don't seem very happy to be filmed...but at they've got clever people involved to film themselves...including nick parks...

the video reminds me a little in tone of 'the history boys'...fatboy is nowhere in sight (except in heavy disguise...i think he'd decided to leave before the shoot...)

  32. G.... ....

Brilliant song, the first time i heard this i was in Germany and was played on BFBS radio, Good on ya Paul Heaton you Sheffield boy,

  33. T.... D....

This video was filmed at my school, Bishop Douglas in East Finchley, London. As a huge Housemartins fan at the time (I was 17), as you can imagine I was extremely gutted to find out about the filming of the video the week after they were there. All the kids involved were in the 1st year (11yr olds) and sworn to secrecy. Oh well.....

  37. h.... ....
