Hornsby, Bruce - The Tide Will Rise Lyrics

Sometimes I get lucky
Most times I come up short
Got to pull up the lines
Got to move around the bend
They say it's a dying breed
They say it's going to disappear
Nothing I can do, oh but pull up the load again

The tide will rise
And the tide will fall
We'll be out on the water
Before the break of dawn
The tide will rise
And the tide will fall
Oh, we'll be working on the water
When the long, long day is gone

Full moon it was always best
Keep a little and you sell the rest
Living on hope that the seed is sown again
Red sky in the evening
Better times are coming up they say
Well, why do I feel like it's all coming to an end

The tide will rise
And the tide will fall
We'll be out on the water
Before the break of dawn
The tide will rise
And the tide will fall
Oh, we'll be working on the water
When the long, long day is gone

When the seed is broken
Nothing left to grow on
When you lose the seed
It's hard to bring it on back
Never bowed to no one
Always went my own way
Broke down, run around, but I won't run away
And the tide will rise

The tide will rise
And the tide will fall
We'll be out on the water
Before the break of dawn
The tide will rise
And the tide will fall
Oh, we'll be working on the water
When the long, long day is gone

Hornsby, Bruce The Tide Will Rise Comments
  1. Eamonn Gaynor

They say its the quiet ones you have to watch Bruce hornsby is proof of that a versatile and brilliant artist with very little deserving recognition for his work there is no justice

  2. Mark Brown

Best Bruce Hornsby song. Period. Uplifting and powerful. Just go to the bridge, with the organ underneath and Bonnie Raitt's backing vocals and the chorus of horns. Chills.

  3. Mach Stem

Great song Sir , have a great day.

  4. Ricardo Valerga

Great Song! Pat Metheny solo is amazing and uplifting. The entire album is a master piece!

  5. Paul Frank

One of his best....just feel like being ocean side...

  6. J Van Brown

    this is truly musical genius!

  7. Vlaid65

    Best song ever.

    Michael Abraham

    My favorite

  8. Davy Dave

Wow, never herd this song either. Very good and emotional too. Feels like your at church when you hear the chorus..dont you think?? amen folks. ^_^

    Vlaid65

    With Bonny Rait. Pure pro.

  9. airdriver

This has to be the last good song that BH ever recorded.  After this album his musical style warped into something barely recognizable.

    Vlaid65

He stopped telling stories a went full jazz something. I bought a couple of albums after this one (and all preceding albums) but I never listen to them. This is my favorite album.

    So yeah, I agree.

    Michael Escareno

As a big Bruce Hornsby fan, I have to agree with you. He went off into different tangents after this and never came back to it.

    Jon Aanensen

Agreed. Best track on Harbor Lights. Could have been on Scenes...

    Bret Stanley

I agree too. However, I liked Line in the Dust and Resting Place from his Spirit Trail album. Check them out and see if you like them.
