Overly complex, less entertaining than the studio version, and he wasn't painting any stories that anyone other than a musician could appreciate. Reminds me of how Michael McDonald lost his way. Everything post Harbor Lights is convoluted riffs.

Apparently, you have never heard the studio version because it's quite different from this rendition of what is admittedly a great song. Every musician eventually reaches that point in his career when his live music is nowhere near as good as the studio version, as is the case here. Regardless, everyone is entitled to his own opinion. Just because you don't agree with someone else's comment in no way makes him a troll, however, you calling a complete stranger a troll simply because you don't like what he wrote definitely puts you way below a troll.

I call bullshit. Bruce is best live, that's where he thrives & shines.

He has been part of my life for 28 years. I once drove up the west coast of NewFoundland listening to nothing but his jazz album(Camp Meeting) for 6 days. I will likely never get to see him live but as I drive around for my work (painting landscapes), he will always be in my player.

After all these years you seem like an old friend, and your music is like a warm comforter to wrap up in, shutting out the worlds chaotic noise and feel at peace. "Thanks" is inadequate. However, my children have been inculcated in your music. I am now working on 15 grandchildren. If they want or need a ride, they are now comfortable knowing what the music will be. Bruce Hornsby! The little ones cannot quite get their mouths around the name, but they are trying. So thanks will have to do.

Harbor Lights is such a great record, it boggles the mind. Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Phil Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Garcia as guests and Hornsby at his best, you can't get much better than that.

I never tire of listening to him. He is amazing.

What a great talent. I saw him twice in the metro Detroit area. Meadowbrook theatre and a record store Farmington Hills, MI. At the record store he played a couple of songs, answered questions, and signed autographs. If you get the chance to see him live you should definitely go!

Incredible musicianship. We need a whole lot more of this quality of music and whole bunch less of what's on the radio presently as most of it's cheese dried and terminally insincere. I want to play piano like that in my next life........

I'm trying exactly that and the fact that so much people love bruce hornsby is encouraging me to do my own thing like he did. bruce became popular with music that has elements of unpopular music genres like jazz and (classical) new music

This is nice but the original on the Harbor Lights rocked. Great bass and drums on it plus Bruce's wicked piano and vocals. I see he is still taking request which it appears this was. He may not have performed it in years. Looks like he's reading the music to refresh his memory.
