Hooters, The - Brother, Don't You Walk Away Lyrics

Well I pass him by on the street each day
Brother, don't you walk away
He's about my size and about my age
Brother, don't you walk away
Down a different road, might've been my friend
Brother, don't you walk away
But you never know how the road will bend...

Brother, don't you walk, Brother, don't you walk away
Brother, don't you walk away
Tell me why it so hard to say
Brother, don't you walk away

When you sleep all night on a pillow of stone
Brother, don't you walk away
Do you dream of finding your way back home
Brother, don't you walk away
Well some might say these are better days
Brother, don't you walk away
But a cardboard box is your home these days...

Brother, don't you walk, Brother, don't you walk away
Brother, don't you walk away
Tell me why it so hard to say
Brother, don't you walk away

Now the wind blows hard through the holes in your cap
Brother, don't you walk away
While I'm safe inside here in luxury's lap
Brother, don't you walk away

So you walk this land in your worn out shoes
Brother, don't you walk away
Well if this land's mine, is it your land too...

Brother, don't you walk, Brother, don't you walk away
Brother, don't you walk away
Tell me why it so hard to say
Brother, don't you walk away

So you look at me with a look so real
Brother, don't you walk away
As I turn away from the things I feel
Brother, don't you walk away
Even here and now as I lie awake
Brother, don't you walk away
Tell me how much difference can one man make

Brother, don't you walk, Brother, don't you walk away
Brother, don't you walk away
Tell me, why is it so hard to say
Brother, don't you walk away

Brother, don't you walk, Brother, don't you walk away
Brother, don't you walk away
Tell me, why is it so hard to say
Brother, don't you walk away

Tell me, why is it so hard to say
Brother, don't you walk away...

this song was the inspiration of the investigation of the church of Latter Day Saints. it was an amazing trip but i had to walk away. They are still a part of me.

i saw a Hooters concert in August of '86 at Hershey stadium but i don't know why we left following nervous night tracks.

  15. C.... F....

2:11 person wearing a GnR t-shirt.  Legend.  To the song, it definitely resonates a message of poverty, that in so many ways, can be better managed by governments.  Rather than in their quests for political distortion.

  16. D.... B....

Much of the best music in the late 70s and the 80s was a push-back/warning about the rather selfish direction society & politics had taken, especially in the USA, Canada, and the UK. In all three of those nations, politicians regularly vilified the poor, homeless, single parents, etc., promoted insecurity & fear, and celebrated avarice & greed. Once society had finished drinking their koolaid, large cuts were made to health care, social assistance, disability income, education, and other services that benefited the lowest classes & the working class. In response, these sorts of songs did much to legitimize the efforts of many people to fight the increasing individualism, judgementalism, and materialism during that time, and eventually people began to look at the needs of the poor, unemployed, and vulnerable more seriously.

Obviously there are parallels to the trends in this decade, especially in the USA. However, this time around, virtually all television & radio is controlled by corporate interests, so these sorts of 'wakeup!' or 'protest' tunes are rarely heard in the mainstream media. This is something that should have us all worried!

    Ok...rant over.... :)

    D.... B....

No apologies needed for your rant. You said a lot of things that need to be said. I held out hope that our current political mess would result in great comedy and great music. I am still waiting on the great music - I am sure it's out there, but it isn't going to be easy to find. Every time I listen to the news, I think of "Guns of Brixton," "The Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum," "Banana Republic," and "Clampdown." These songs were reactions to politics in and around the Thatcher era (which now seem warm and compassionate by contrast to what we have in the U.S. today). The current generation needs to produce angry songs like those. "Brother Don't You Walk Away" is one of many great songs by a great (though unfortunately named) band!

I saw The Hooters live in August 1989 at Great Woods Ampitheatre in Massachusetts. They were touring in support of their Zig Zag LP and were the opening act for Stevie Nicks who was touring for her The Other Side Of The Mirror LP. They performed with so much energy-they didn't act like rock stars at all. I love these guys. Best concert I have ever seen. I will never forget it.

    s.... ....

I saw them on that tour too...Garden State Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. I remember talking a friend of mine into the tickets for Stevie Nicks because the Hooters were the opening band!
