Hooters, The - Beat Up Guitar Lyrics
You lived on Vine Street
I lived at home
The music was all that we had of our own
No satisfaction, no dance in my car
But I had the keys to the world in my beat up guitar
With my beat up guitar
You and I will ride away
From the town that rocked the nation
Philadelphia, PA
Kensington Station, we sat on the tracks
I wrote you a song
The one you knew it was flat
You laughed when they told me
You won't get too far
With my beat up guitar
You and I will ride away
From the town that rocked the nation
Philadelphia, PA
And I may leave this place tomorrow
But my soul is here to stay
In the town that rocked the nation
You can't get to Heaven on the Frankford El
You can't get to Heaven on the Frankford El
You can't get to Heaven on the Frankford El
You can't get to Heaven on the Frankford El
Oh you can't get to Heaven on the Frankford El
Cause the Frankford El goes straight to Frankford
It's just another stop til I find my destination
With my beat up guitar
You and I will ride away
From the town that rocked the nation
And with that beat up guitar
We're coming home again someday
To the town that rocked the nation
Philadelphia, PA
And I may leave this place tomorrow
But my soul is here to stay
In the town that rocked the nation
Philadelphia, PA
In the town that rocked the nation
Philadelphia, PA
Philadelphia, PA

Everyone likes Hooters. Great music, once you get past the "Big hair" of the 80's. Now all the old rockers are the "no hair days". Can actually see how they look. Big hair was better......
Brings it all back, growing up and living in Philly. Philadelphia truly rocked the world.
Great band, great city!
lived there for 6 years off to boarding school at 15 crazy times. more stories yet to come later.
Fuck yeah. Lifetime resident.
Possibly their best???????
I was missing Philly and listening to 'MMR online when this came on. :)
Beat Up Guitar-one of the best ever songs about Rock & Roll! It's about finding a dream and making it come true. Timeless Hooters Classic Rocker!
This tune screams Philly for me. Great homage to my hometown by a great local band. WMMR 93.3 used to play this. Believe I first heard it there or on Al Thompson's FM Audition on RDV-FM (WRDV/WLBS FM).Great tune.
hate radio. love cassettes and cd's
@Colin2k41 That song is about having AIDS, not about living in Philadelphia. Good tune nonetheless.
The FILM is about AIDS, the song is Actually about Philly! 😅
Not enough good songs about Philly! This is a classic.
LOVE THIS SONG!
GREAT SONG!!!!
GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING!
on the way to Philly on the turnpike at dawn. beautiful sunrise. great times.
Part of this song was lifted from "You Can't Get To Heaven On The Frankford El" by American Dream.
Anyway, a great song!
However, I'd love to see the original "Frankford El" posted on YouTube...
Bad (and untrue) joke:
Why doesn't SEPTA run the Market-Frankford line on Christmas?
No-el! ;-)
We sang the Frankford El song in the early 50's. I got it from my Mom, it must date to the 1920's or 30's. Noel, Noel, so I took the 42. Before it was SEPTA it was the PTC.
