Hoodoo Gurus - Party Machine Lyrics

Well, it's Friday night and I just got paid
Nothing on tomorrow, man, I got it made

We got an engine, but we ain't got wheels
Don't need to petrol for our gurumobile
'Cause we ain't going nowhere near the ground
We're on a rocket ship to inner space (inner space)
Out into orbit moving in one place (in one place)
And going faster than the speed of sound, yeah

(Move your feet) to the rhythm of love
(Groove that beat) once is never enough
(Dig my words) it's a happening scene
(Hitch a ride) on the party machine

Yeah

You know we're gonna have a real cool time
Your wig will flip so high you'll lose your mind
Let's fiy a supersonic to the Sun, hey
There's people swinging on the chandelier (chandelier)
The pilot's singing to the bombardier (bombardier)
Saying ooh-wee Capracornia, here we come, here we go

(Blow your cool) while the night is still young, hey
(Make your move) now, you're having some fun, ooh, yeah
(Catch my wave) won't you tune in on me? 'cause I want you to raise your antenna now
(Hitch a ride) on the party machine
The party machine, the party machine

(Move your feet) to the rhythm of love
(Blow your cool) while the night is still young, hey
(Catch my wave) won't you tune in on me?
(Hitch a ride) on the party machine
The party machine, the party machine

I say, where have you been? where have you been?
(On the party machine, on the party machine)
I say, what did you see? what did you see?
(I saw everything), (everything) and more...
What do ya say?
I wanna go somewhere
But anywhere will do
Yeah

One of the few well-kept secrets of the 1980's. The band, not the song.

Sure is! I remember the name of the band, but don't recall EVER hearing any of their songs. Right now I'm listening to a bunch of their songs. In the late 70's/early 80's a lot of garage punk bands wanted to sound "just like" the 60's. Very few really accomplished that goal though. But this band sounds so amazingly much like a 60's garage band with the harmonica, clapping (something that was rarely brought back in the 80s) background vocals and very simple, driving sound. The lead vocalist does seem somewhat influenced by Lux Interior though. Which is NOT a bad thing at all - the Cramps are my favorite band. But he sounds more like a mid 60s singer, though not so much garage-y, more a kinda psychedelic blues-rock singer. Thumbs up!!

Oh...my...gawd, this is before. It is now, now. But this is before. This cocktail tastes even better.
