Holmes, Rupert - Partners In Crime Lyrics

She's under-age and she's underweight
And she's one month hooked and she's two months late
She comes from Wyoming
And he named her Desiree

She hit New York like a farm-fresh egg
Hits a frying pan, she's too proud to beg
So she works on the sidewalk
He administrates her pay

She calls him Swagger 'cause of his hat
He adopted her in three seconds flat
By the bus station doorway
Where he found her half-alive

He is her family and in return
He beats up on her and takes all she can earn
And she needs him so badly
Losing him she'd never survive

Him and her, me and you
We do it to each other whatever we do
Hand in hand, arm in arm
It's always been the two of us doing us harm
It's the same deal every time
We're all of us partners in crime

She is a buyer for Bloomingdale's
He's division head of commercial sales
They met at the office
Odds we one to one they'd meet

Work is the great aphrodisiac
It's that nine-to-five gets 'em in the sack
Afternoons at the office
Evenings at the health retreat

And all day long he just balls her out
'Bout some shipment due on the air freight route
But when they leave the office
Guess who gets the upper hand?

She's into power, he's into pain
And beneath her heel, he will long remain
And he needs her so badly
Loves it when she takes command

Him and her, me and you
We do it to each other whatever we do
Hand in hand, arm in arm
It's always been the two of us doing us harm
It's the same deal every time
We're all of us partners in crime

If there's a heaven, if there's a hell
It's made up of those who we love so well
And we make hell or heaven
As we do when we're alive

Two people meet and they fix their deal
And they get what they deserve
And they want the way they feel
And we need love so badly
Losing it we'd never survive

Him and her, me and you
We do it to each other whatever we do
Hand in hand, arm in arm
It's always been the two of us doing us harm
It's the same deal every time
We're all of us partners in crime

  13. D.... S....

Only known for his one hit, a shame, this album was good.

    D.... S....

He had 3 top 40's, Escape went to #1, Him was #6, and Answering machine was #32.....adding that up, it amounts to more than one....

    D.... S....

At least Escape is a masterpiece

This is such an excellent track! Love it to bits with the fabulous lyrics and instrumentation. I love the bits on the synthesizer, especially in the fourth section of the third and final verse, whereby the synthesizer takes on a more sinister and ominous sound. Absolutely blows me away. It is a superbly constructed song with the killer basslines and the guitar licks and effects. I love analysing the musical construction of this track because there are some salient parts which I love, a case in point is whereby the rhythm guitar playing is absent in the third sections of each verse (but supplanted by the synthesizer), but present in the first, second and fourth sections. Also, I just love the instrumental break with the horns/soprano saxophone which comprise the first and second sections of the third verse. I may sound like I'm a bit off my trolley, but it conjures up the image of walking/driving in New York, especially in downtown Manhattan. It's just a killer track and Rupert Holmes is such a consummate musician and lyricist. So glad I have this LP.

This song shows that you can combine synth and horns together without one overlapping or dominating the other. I never found another track like this.

    I love your comment:)

    Great chorus line

Good song. I only knew the two famous songs from this album.

I assume you mean Him and Escape. Try Answering Machine, another very nice one.

    G.... ....

"Cold" is a good song too.

  17. 7.... ....

A complete masterpiece LP from one of the most underrated musicians of all time-1979 best LP.Leo Adamian on drums and Dean Bailin on guitars and Frank Gravis on bass killer lineup of studio session players
