Hollies, The - Man With No Expression Lyrics

There's a man I know with no expression no not none at all

Have you ever ridden horses through a rainstorm
or led a lion through a busy street bazaar
There are many things I'd like to turn you on to
but somehow I feel you're safer where you are

If you're looking for examples to refer to
take a look around yourself I'm sure you'll find
there are many things to make your life much brighter
and I'd bet there's many more inside your mind

There's a man I know with no expression no not none at all

There's a man I know with no expression no not none at all

But I've never seen this man laughing

and come to think of it I've never seen him cry
But I might by sitting hear him singing
By and by he'll stop and sigh
he'll feel a breeze and then begin to freeze
as he thinks goodbye

Have you ever ridden horses through a rainstorm
or led a lion through a busy street bazaar
There are many things I'd like to turn you on to
but somehow I feel you're safer where you are

There's a man I know with no expression no not none at all
There's a man with no expression
man with no expression
man with no expression

Hollies, The Man With No Expression Comments
  1. P.... R....

The CSN version is so much better.

  2. L.... ....

Nash and Reid wrote this, Hollies (?) is a nice version, but the CSN unreleased version on the Boxed Set, #1 is the best I think. All good.

  3. o.... ....

I was the recording session for this song. Studio 3, Abbey Road. It was my first time meeting The Hollies, and they were just the nicest guys ever. And funny. And they stood and rehearsed the chorus two feet from me and their voices were so impressive and loud.....wow. I my face was turning red!! I was thrilled to death ...Great memories....

  4. G.... E....

I like this version, and also the CSN one.  But the real, true, bluesy, gutsy version belongs to Terry Reid.  (Although I also feel firmly that the "horses through a rainstorm / lion through a busy street bazaar" has to be Graham - seems to have him written (literally) all over it...)

  5. s.... ....

Yes he wrote the original "Without Expression", look it up on you tube. Graham Nash and he knew each other and the Hollies did their version, then Crosby, Stills and Nash did another version "Horses through a Rainstorm".

  6. J.... ....

I agree John Mellencamp 's version is the best I've ever heard too.

  7. t.... ....

Co-written by Graham and Terry, this same song was also recorded by Terry under the title "Without Expression" , covered by John Mellencamp, and recorded by CSNY as "Horses Through the Rainstorm". Check out my playlist for all of these.

  8. g.... ....

John Mellencamp made a beautiful rendition of this song.

  9. M.... ....

Terry Reid wrote this with Graham Nash and recorded it very early on and became his most "popular" song, whatever that means. The Hollies recorded it in 68 but it wasn't released for many years. You can hear Terry Reid's studio version and many of his live versions here on Youtube.

  10. B.... H....

Mental harmonies on this ...Terry Reid, CSNY ...gonna check out Mellencamp's version now

  11. T.... C....

    Terry Reid

  12. B.... ....

Great song don't forget to listen to the REO Speedwagon version from Ridin the storm album. With Murphy's unique voice. The Best version.

  13. G.... M....

hello fans. a wonderful CSNY take of this is on the CARRY ON box set, titled 'horses thru a rainstorm'. its finished, only lacking a stephen stills lead guitar. but the harmonies are even better , i think, than the hollies one. go find it, its worth hearing.

  14. I.... ....

The note that Nash hits at 2:32 and 2:48 just might be his highest ever.

  15. j.... ....

Holy crap. I never heard any version of this song except the REO Speedwagon version and the John Mellancougar version. Anyone know where I can find the REO video of this?

  16. e.... ....

    just wonderful (^o^)

  17. P.... ....

HA!!! No surprise to find the whole gang here. Hi everyone.....Sorry I'm late!!!
    xx Linda.

  18. P.... ....

This might be my favorite Hollies song, but after being unable to find it on YouTube, I created this "video" with stock photos from my PC.
