Hollies, The - It's Only Make Believe Lyrics

My one and only prayer is that some day you'll care
My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you
No one will ever know how much I love you so
My only prayer will be some day you'll care for me
But it's only make believe

My hopes, my dreams come true, my life I give for you
My heart, a wedding ring, my all, my everything
My heart I can't control, you ruin my very soul
My hopes, my prayers, my schemes
You are my everything, but it's only make believe

[Break]

My one and only prayer is that some day you'll care
My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you
No one will ever know how much I love you so
My only prayer will be some day you'll care for me
But it's only make believe

Hollies, The It's Only Make Believe Comments
  1. C.... B....

I have always liked this version of the song

  2. g.... b....

Nice, but you can't beat Conway Twitty's 1958 version.

  3. L.... W....

WTF? You butchered Conway Twitty's song to hell and back. But I gotta give it to you. You've got a lot of guts.

  4. T.... S....

No one can sing this song like Conway!

  5. L.... G....

Terrible, not a group song by any means. The Hollies have done some fabulous things.....not this one though.

  6. D.... G....

Heard Billy fury singing this song live unbeatable

  7. C.... F....

    Show essa música! 👏👏👏

  8. P.... H....

This is a really good version of the song

  9. 7.... ....

You can hear Grahm in there !! Tight singing !!

  10. J.... d....

Would love to hear Joan Osborne do a version.

  12. w.... s....

FOUND THIS BY ACCEDENT I WAS LOOKING FOR CONWAY TWITTY SORRY ITS STILL A GREAT SONG

  13. r.... ....

Sorry Conway Twitty and Glenn Campbell, pwnd the Hollies.

  14. D.... T....

    NO way!

  15. J.... S....

    How to ruin a classic.

  16. S.... o....

For the first 30 seconds or so, I wasn't sure If I was going to like this cover, tempo seemed a little draggy. I went the full 3:14. Wow, the Hollies.

  17. J.... d....

The band that makes many covers better than the originals !!!

    J.... d....

Lol no one is better than Conway

  18. C.... L....

Have seen this brilliant group playing live in Manchester. The 60s was the best time to see live bands, l think. l was so lucky.

    C.... L....

Carol Lindley damn straite u were. rock on

  19. A.... i....

    Absolutely NO emotion !!

    A.... i....

Can't you hear it building? it's there in the way the song is constructed. From a sombre understated beginning, building (crescendo) to a soaring/searing finale (climax).

  20. j.... o....

what harmonies these guys have ,this is a really lovely version of a beautiful song .....xxxx long live the 60s

  21. G.... L....

They are a great band with many hits

  22. S.... o....

Luv the Hollies, but this cover is lack luster at best.

    S.... o....

Sands of time and your lack of understanding of British invasion. makes you a derp

  23. M.... A....

    JUST BEAUTIFUL!

  24. R.... D....

Just love the Tonys guitar work . Heard many versions of this song , Glen Campbell also did a nice job. But this is my favorite , the harmonies are perfect . Just my opinion

  25. j.... c....

    I like is group

  26. P.... ....

Hollies, so great! One o' my fav groups. Never knew they did this. Love it!

  27. B.... ....

I love the Conway Twitty original...not so keen on the Elvis version, but The Hollies had such a lovely sound...

    B.... ....

Not forgetting the one and only Billy Fury. xx

    B.... ....

Allan had a prodigious range and an enchanting timbre. The Hollies weren't shrill at all, they sang like MALE angels and also could rock like hell in the 60s

    B.... ....

    Elvis never recorded this

  28. J.... d....

They did more covers i like more than the originals : "Blowin in the wind" , "Just Like a woman"

  29. K.... C....

God, they remind me of the Everly Brothers here. The harmonies are absolutely gorgeous . . .

    K.... C....

The Everly brothers were their inspiration.

    K.... C....

    Kathy Cobb
I think so too, the sound is very close to that of The Everly Brothers, the drum beat and the harmonies .
I have listened to all The Everly's songs, so it ringed a bell when I listened to this song.

    K.... C....

They do sound like The Everly Brothers!

    K.... C....

    Their influence is clear.

  30. K.... C....

Gotta love those harmonies, I get chills just listening to this . . .

  31. D.... F....

As others have said, you can see the Hollies liked the Everly Brothers. I didn't know the Hollies did covers of 50's tunes before tonight. Really cool!

  32. M.... C....

    Marvelous!

  33. G.... P....

woooooooooow what voices ty for sharing

  34. b.... ....

    I've always liked the Hollies.
It seems to me they could have improved their songs with some bass harmony.
I find this, and many of their songs to be a little shrill for me.

    b.... ....

+breezebro Clarke Hicks, Nash harmonies brilliant. Based on Everly Bros?

    b.... ....

    @Dale Mac
I can appreciate their great harmonies, but they're just too high for me.
I dislike most female singers; even their conversation is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

  35. w.... ....

Beautiful version, love the hollies and they was influenced by the everly brothers

    w.... ....

    Hollies = Buddy HOLLY...

  36. e.... ....

    absolument genial..

  37. l.... ....

They could probably have a damn good stab at just about anything.and make it work as a Hollies song. They had plenty to work with in terms of talent and skill.

  38. m.... ....

    OTTIMO

  39. 1.... ....

Love it.Such talented guys and they can play really well!

  40. H.... E....

These ads are hellish. Google should put them anywhere, except on the video.

  41. s.... ....

Fantastic version - you guys have sooooo much talent. Love it xxx

  42. g.... ....

    Beautiful !!

  43. A.... H....

What a surprise! Had no idea that they performed this tune.Thank you.

  44. A.... ....

    @billyfuryfan64
Hi you have right Billy made a great version of this song. But the magic from this Hollies version are the harmonies. Graham Nash can sing so high without falling into falsetto - no other singer can sing (at the 60th) so high as he can. From Billy Fury I like at most "Once Upon A Dream". This song is fantastic.

  45. A.... ....

YES this is it - you can`t better sing this one. I found no better version on You Tube like this one. The Hollies are the masters of harmonie singing.

  46. M.... G....

cute, but no where near the wonderful sound of conway twitty...

  47. l.... n....

thank you for posting this and God bless you.

  48. A.... R....

    wonderful ..i didn't know the hollies recorded it....love it...thanks...!!

  49. T.... ....

This is one of my favorite early Hollies songs.

  50. k.... d....

billy fury and conway and the hollies and elvis people who can sing who have covered this song

  51. L.... W....

The Hollies are a great Group, no doubt and they harmonize beautifully, BUT NO ONE SINGS IT'S ONLY MAKE BELIEVE like the LEGENDARY CONWAY TWITTY NO ONE.

  52. 1.... ....

gag...thank you conway for making this song what it is

  53. R.... W....

This song puts me to sleep. Conway was a great performer but Glen Campbell puts all others to shame. It is actually my favorite Glen Campbell song.

  54. 2.... ....

harmonies can not get better than this

  55. W.... ....

My second favorite version of this song. I still like Conways version the best. Sorry people but to me no contest Conway owns this song. The Hollies do a great cover version though.

  56. E.... ....

One of my favorite songs done by one of my favorite groups. They almost sound like the Everly Brothers. Love it.

    E.... ....

    EmpressOfWyoming58
I agree. I had the same opinion when I listened to this song.

  57. R.... W....

    thank you
    Everly's style
    Rocky en France

  58. A.... W....

it's a good song done well

  59. J.... N....

Love the Hollies, but I prefer Conway Twitty and Robert Gordon's Rockabilly versions.Still not bad and thanks for posting.

  60. G.... ....

I'm a huge Hollies fan but I don't care for this version. One of their worst efforts.

  61. E.... C....

Have always loved The Hollies since their first hit, Just One Look. Never knew they sang this song before. A very nice rendition. Good harmony. Thanks Rebecca.

  62. b.... ....

Way to slow , C onway is the best , with a close second By Ronnie Mc

  63. R.... W....

This version puts me to sleep. Glen Campbell has the best version of this fantastic song.

  64. S.... G....

No conocia esta version, esta padrisima, solo conocia la de Coway, gracias por postearla. It's just great. Beautiful version

  65. b.... ....

Cool the Hollies doing an Everly Bros version of Conway Twitty.

  66. r.... ....

    WHICH ALBUM IS THIS ON

  67. E.... I....

    This is beautiful.

  68. d.... ....

who is roger gordon ....never heard of him ?????

  69. T.... M....

    FANTASTIC SONG!!!

  70. J.... J....

    Very good!

  71. M.... L....

remember this from their album in the
60s good version but they can't hit the
    high notes like Conway

  72. b.... ....

great but take a listen to glenn campbell version superb
