Hollies, The - Butterfly Lyrics
We met on the shore of a lemonade lake.
Weeping willows looked down where we lay.
Orange blossoms I smell in your hair.
Butterfly, flutter by, butterfly by.
Here on the shore of the lemonade lake.
Pond lilies play hide and seek with the fish.
Rabbit run, run rabbit, rabbit run by.
Roaring mountain is standing close by,
Covered with snowdrops and glistening with dew.
I hear the sound of a small hummingbird.
I took your hand and I waltzed off with you.
Come to the top of the mountain with me.
Seeing the countryside covered with grass
And the top of the mountain with candy-floss and snow.
Butterfly lazily drinking the sun,
Lavishly sprinkled and painted with gold.
Here in the land of the mist and the lake,
Me and my true love will never grow old.

whats a marijuana trip?
Wonder, wonder, if Lucy in the Sky is what a trip on LSD is like then is Butterfly a marijuana trip? Never tried either trip so I don't know for sure. I think I would like a trip on the green grass.

I LOVE This Song Soo Much ! It's Soo Beautiful ! <3
Whether it is merely synchronicity or because the title of the novel was mentioned a lot when or slightly before this song was written, I've always thought the rabbit run line came about due to the John Updike novel Rabbit Run. In any case, back then and now, it reminds me of the title, not that the song has anything to do with the novel.
My favorite Hollies song.
To the "Butterfly" of my life
Somebody tell Graham Nash to start playing this song again for crying out loud.....
I love this. Thanks for posting! Just heard this for the first time yesterday. Graham should put this into the C&N shows.
such a amazing song so dam good live
THIS SONG I CANT FORGET. BOUGHT THE ALBUM IN 1967. REMEMBER ALL THE WORDS
would love to hear it without vocals, anybody know who scored the strings?
The only Hollie to appear on the song does not appear in the only photo shown. Weird? No, just a big Fail.
What is Sylvester doing in the photo? Not a bad song, not great, glad it is short. I like the melody, but although imagy, thought the lyrics could have been better.
Gorgeous voice...pre CS&N
I LOVE this song sooooo much.
I love to sing this song...its great started with a rain stick...then fiddle backing gently weaving around...ending with rainstick and followed by "Butterfly" the tune..works great at a folk jam session....X
Una melodía bella y una voz dulce hacen esto: ARTE EN ESTADO PURO.
About the time Graeme was thinking of moving on to better things

Well yeah...it really does not fit in with Pro Rasslin. Hahahahahahaha!
