I could shake the producer until his teeth rattle! Billie deserves better! The background muzak, (Jackie Gleason?) is horrendous.

By now, her voice is very raspy, the drugs, alcohol and cigarettes ravished her throat, but you have to hand it to her for keeping on going, almost until her end. She had some great songs to work with in the 1930s and '40s, which helped to gain her an appreciative audience. She certainly influenced a lot of singers back in her early days.

Pure beautiful song for holidays especially as it's by Billie Holiday. Holidays are just as beautiful as this beautiful moving song of the 20th century.

I feel
emotional to this song because it reminds me of a Southern French holiday and screaming in sadness on the long journey home 😢💔 I was lucky my perants were sympathetic and didnt keep wooping me. Still cry over it and bit 😢💔

At this stage Billie's voice was well past its best ... BUT,,,, she still had so much beautiful emotion to vocalise ...and a song that will always bring a tear to my eye....... THEN I go back and listen to her 1935 version of "What a little moonlight will do" with Teddy Wilson and Benny Goodman and hear her at her AMAZING best !! and love her to pieces for it all.

My wonderful friend Bill Carey wrote this. We were friends in Laguna Beach for years. He wrote a song to his wife every day until she passed he also gave her a bouquet of flowers every day.

Hello William, I have sung this song for many years as it has always had a place in my repertoire and saw that the person who wrote the song ie Bill Carey was your friend. I was looking for the writer as I need to know for a possible radio show airing. As a songwriter myself, it can be so upsetting that people do not know that. you are the person who wrote the song that makes people sit up and listen to them. I also took some time to read his life story and was shocked to realise that I did not have the name of such a prolific songwriter and singer always on the tip of my tongue. So I would like to apologise for that and declare much respect to Bill Carey your friend who has given myself and so many more people, so much pleasure through the years with this song. From now on I shall always give his name a check before singing his song anywhere. I particularly loved the story of a song a day for his wife..Heartbreaking (as is the song). @Julie Dennis Of all the remarkable artists who sang the songs of the great musical composers and lyricists of old, I have been privileged to hear a few in concert, but only one stands out who so often gave the name of those responsible for the song he sang and that was Frank Sinatra. He also, so often, mentioned the orchestra and thanked them at his performances. Few do that.
After all, without those who wrote and composed the songs, we wouldn't have those great songs that we perform, would we!

Billie Hollidays voice touches me in my heart, you can just hear and feel the many ordeals, the drama, tragedy and the tremendous suffering she has been through. Her later recordings just break my heart because somehow you know her end is coming near. What moves me the most is that she kept on fighting because she never lost hope to find love and happiness, but in vain, when she died in 1959 at the age of 44. 😔😢 I love you Billie, no one can ever replace you. Rest in peace. 💐

Every time I play this song and dim the lights, it's like instant theater with all the elements of drama, pathos, tragedy added in. Nobody sings drama better than Billie. While I still prefer her early recordings from the 1930's, her 1958 classic "Lady In Satin" (which has this song) is a Must for any Billie fan.
