Herman's Hermits - Jezebel Lyrics

If ever a devil was born
Without a pair of horns
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a pair of eyes
Promised paradise
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a devil's plan
Was made to torment man
Decieving me
Grieving me
Leaving me blue
Jezebel, it was you!

If ever a devil was born
Without a pair of horns
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a pair of eyes
Promised paradise
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a devil's plan
Was made to torment man
Decieving me
Grieving me
Leaving me blue
Jezebel, it was you!

Even had I never known
A lover such as you
Forsaking dreams and goals
For the silent scorn
Of your charms, Jezebel!

If ever a devil's plan
Was made to torment man
Decieving me
Drieving me
Leaving me blue
Jezebel, it was you!

Night and day
Every way
Oh Jezebel!
Jezebel

Jezebel!

    Amazing! thanks for upload this

  2. Greg Bye

This was an album cut. It would have been a hit, if released as a single.

  3. AllRequired

Definitely did justice to the Frankie Laine version.

  4. Rice MenaRQ

This is some heavy shit for 60s. You can hear the roots of metal

    Arthur F. Scaltrito

It was a Frankie Laine hit in the 50s.
    Done well by the Hermits

  5. Arthur F. Scaltrito

I saw them do this on The Ed Sullivan Show

  6. john malcolm

Jezebel became a liberal Democrat and renounced God urged worship of Obama.
    She paid for it.
    A gruesome end for her.

The only Hermits album I owned. Always liked this little rocker! Peter Noone could sing!

  12. John McCormick

This is a very good version indeed, however if you want to hear the best version (IMHO) "Google" "The Rumbles" from Omaha, Nebraska and take a listen to their version which charted in 1967 and early 1968.

I was born in Lincoln,  but spent much more time in Albion and Norfolk. I certainly remember posters and radio ads mentioning The Rumbles. Never saw 'em. We always had Norfolk band called The Smoke Ring in the Sandhill functions. Wow...that's going back a ways. Hey...thanks...I'll see about the Rumbles version.

typo in your album name? Change "H' to "L" and you're there....

    ;)

Good stuff....I don't care what anybody says. I was 10 when these guys first hit the scene in @ 1965. You start counting up all the hits they had on the charts and it'll really surprise you. These guys cranked 'em out and they just kept charting. People loved 'em....especially chicks. So cool to see that Peter Noone still has such a great attitude about his role in the whole era. He'd be cool to have lunch with and just reminisce, I think.

    Arthur F. Scaltrito

And this was an old Frankie Laine hit in the 50s.
    Done well by the Hermits.

  15. Jeff Hushfield

I can think of a few women in my life that this song describes.

I still have this album- was the second record I ever owned. I bought it when I was 12. Always treasured it the most. It spun on countless record players and turntables. Even the scrathes don't take away from it thought it's been awhile since I played it. The receiver conked out!

  18. lonehorseman09

i didnt think peter could sing this song but it is agreat version, maybe the best

  19. TheDj3a

The twangy bendy guitar has me all aflutter....if ever a pair of eyes promised paradise...it was you.

    Arthur F. Scaltrito

Actually it was a bass played with a pick.

  20. Ed Moore

    Great album!
