Herb Alpert - Diamonds Lyrics
You told me you love me
You told me you care
But when I'm around you
It's like I'm not there
Something I can see
Something on my finger shines so brightly
Don't you know
Diamonds are a girl's best friend
When you go
They stay with me until the end
Don't you know
Best friend
When you go
They stay with me until the end
Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Diamonds - love don't come for free
Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Diamonds - love don't come for free
They say you need some roses
But roses do die
You gave me some candy
It melted
Nice try
I'm not that demanding
I have simple taste
I just want a token that can't go to waste - Diamonds
Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Don't you know
Diamonds are a girl's best friend
Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Don't want your money
Don't want your key
Diamonds - love don't come for free

why didn't Janet appear in Herb's video?
Ain't gonna lie, from what I remember, 2:43 looks like when the ladies would come to the back for some nose candy! 😂🤣
The 80's had the greatest music
I had this CD and it was awesome! Miss this kind of music. Rock on with Eighties music!
This song sounds just as good slightly slowed down.
At 7, I knew that person was no Janet Jackson.
im going back to the 80s
you guys need anything....📆📅📆
HAPPY 57TH BIRTHDAY JEROME BENTON (SEPTEMBER 20, 2019)
First, some guy in the club tells Herb Alpert to stay away from drugs. Then we meet Bucky the DJ.
Herb Albert is and always will be THE MAN! (and also Chuck Mangione, can't forget him!)
Old school *Herb Albert.* New school *Janet J,* made for a kick ass combinations *like ...ever in life!*
80s RnB was amazing.
Some of you are Janet Jackson fans and have the audacity to wonder if that was Janet or not in the limo? You could tell by her lips it was a lookalike...
Love Janet and Herb Alpert!! I know who Jerome is b ut who was the other guy?
Jerome Benton is a Fool!!!
Herb is wearing the same studded blazer that Mark White of ABC wore for ABC's Alphabet City album also released in 1987 - I believe it's a Gaultier jacket - chic!
What the guy name who play the trumpet
Forever I've been looking for this video... I just remember my dad recording it for us and we would dance to it 😂
Wow wow wow!!! After more than 30years is still this song dance masterpiece!!!
Love this song and that dynamite female dancer with the black & white striped blouse.
That Friday night countdown on Video Soul.
Gawd I miss the 80s!
That 80s Life
🌹JANET🌹
That little girl a grown woman now lol
One of the best underrated collaborations of the 80's. It's 2019 @ this is still hot.
HAPPY 53RD BIRTHDAY TO JANET JACKSON! ( May 16, 2019 ).
wonder why JJ isnt in video
Any info on " Lil Janet"?? Who was the child who performed at the end
Haven't heard this song in FOREVER!!!! Thank You, YOUTUBE!!! It popped in my head today and I was able to find it here.
Herb Alpert badass motherf**** in his fifties way back then 🖒
You should have seen me buck dancin to this song!!!!!!!! it was a groovy trippin scene!!!!!
This was the jam in my moms camero
This would've been a bigger hit if Janet were actually in the video. People were such MTV addicts back then. Cell phones have replaced MTV as the new addiction.
The greatest Janet Jackson music video that barely stars Janet Jackson!
Heard this song in Roses today
2019. Still wishing I danced like them.
...obviously, choreographed by the INCOMPARABLE...Miss Paula Abdul!!...
"LEGEND🌟RY!!!"🙏🕯🎵🎤
Still smoking track 2018
What a party ... So good....
September 2018, great song!! ❤💥🎶🎺🌹🙏
HAPPY 56TH BIRTHDAY JEROME BENTON (SEPTEMBER 19, 2018)

Love the song and the beat. Janet is the best! Greatest female entertainer ever!
Baby Janet. 👶
🔷🔹 Queen Janet needs her diamonds!!! 🔸🔶 Where dey at? 💍
HAHA! WHAT A LAUGH! ACTUALLY WATCHED THIS TODAY. SONG DOESN'T REALLY START UNTIL 2MIN. JANET NEVER SHOWS UP, BUT W/ HERB A. WHO CARES!? HE IS SOOO TALENTED. MOST MUSIC TODAY SUCKS!
The limo changed from a Cadillac Sedan de Ville to a Lincoln Town Car limo
Song being played at beginning is the "Summer Mix" version of this song.
Difficult for me to wrap my brain around the fact that this song is 31 years old. Just proves that good music is like a fine wine--just gets better with time.
TK Carter!!
I have all ways love Herb s Beats....MR. A an M
Cut em up Janet!!! March 2018 Listening
2018 anyone? Still a jam
Even 2019!
2019=Here baby
2019 anyone!!!!
2019 baby!
Peace..Yeah....
The actor playing the DJ is T.K. Carter. He's starred on a lot of movies and tv shows (like Good Morning Miss Bliss before it became Saved By The Bell).
What’s the song being played before herb’s joint? Any ideas?
Just think this little girl is pushing 40 now
Diamonds
the little janet at the end was a little girl they had on puttin on the hits that year and she won for being janet jackson.

Sho Yo Rite
Video Soul top 20 countdown!!!
I got $5 on that crowdfund
@Boss Lady 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Exactly!
This video had constant rotation on BET's Video Vibrations
Janet was slaying it. She ruled the nineties with her sexy ass.
whose the little 👧 getting all the attention
So funky, with Jam and Lewis and Jerome doing a Cameo, and it has that Prince/Time sound all the way through, whats not 2 like.
5:10 I never figured out who that little girl is. She's probably in her mid 30s today. I wonder if she ever got any fame.
Debuted at #84 on the Hot 100 chart for the week ending April 11, 1987. CLASSIC!!! #ThirtyYearsAgo
eightiespopboy it went top 5.
bhoxz justine As it should! Make Love In The Rain deserved the same success
Damn I miss the 80's
I swear, the best songs were from the 80's and 90's.....
Marlana Edwards
Don't forget the 70's. They were very cool & still are today.
70's too!
Please upload the clip again, it is awsome!,!!!!!
Jerome and TK Carter (of Good Times and Punky Brewster fame) doing their thing. What a dance.
This song should've been on control also. Love both albums.
that wouldn't of happened because control was already recorded and release a year prior to this song.
SHURE THING round da dance
If you cant dance so be it but eh... *@~
if you know what i mean
The best thing she ever did!!!! Leave it to Herb!!!
Another Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis classic. They learned a lot from Prince.
kryp44 ... They didn't learn anything from Prince. They were around the same age and played in the same bands growing up in Minneapolis. They were Prince's counterparts and just as talented with probably more hits than him--the same level.
Both played in The Time so they worked with Prince for sure
yess....one of my fafourites...
"This is Whappnin'" Heh Heh!
Janet was sick I think so she couldn't be in the video
michael bosket that could be true.theres a 50/50 chance.
Paula Abdul choreography definitely I can tell..
Jesus will Judge did those laker girl dance moves give it away? Lol
Yep, I immediately thought that too. Definitely from the "What have you done..." dancing. Incredible, nonetheless!
80's were the best
Israel De Leon yes I love and miss the 80's. Prince Madonna, Janet, u2, Cyndi Lauper and all the greats
Ha! That's Jerome from Morris Day and The Time dancing @ 4:07!!! LOVE IT!!
Also its Paula Abdul choreography.
Jerome Benton created the Herb Alpert dance in this video! Everybody was doing that dance when this song came out!
the song was great. the trumpet playing was horrible.
I had a college professor back in the 90s that swore Herb Alpert was the worst trumpet player on Earth...I feel that this album would not have sold had it not been for Jam and Lewis and Janet.
Someone very brilliant made the decision that it was not a "Janet" song, but the Legendary'Herb Alpert's piece, which is why Janet doesn't completely appear.
She was on tour.
I didn't know there was a video of this ?
its ashame herb aint got a clear video of this on the net !! sorry ass bullshit vcr ass bullshit.
the Girl in the car is not janet
Moon Walker It's not Janet at all
Correct... Janet was on her control tour when the video was taped.
iamshantheman1 there was no tour for control. Her management wouldn’t allow her(correct me if i’m wrong.)
I think I remember hearing that she was sick so she couldn't do the video, so they used a look-alike and the little girl.
She was.
Herb Alpert was the president of A&M record company at the time (her record company in 1987, the time when this was released.) Before this he was a big time musician with his band the "Tijuana Brass" and I know this was before I was born. (I'm 48). He was friends with Jam, Lewis as well as Janet and she sang on this song as well as "Making Love in the Rain" for his album "Keep Your Eye On Me".
ISAAC WILLIAMS isn't that Jimmy Jam? Was he involved with Morris Day and the Time? can't remember.
Diana Whichard And that's T.K. Carter from "Punky Brewster" @ 1:00!!! Lol!
Definitely not Jimmy Jam. Pretty sure it's Jerome Benton, also of The Time. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis DID produce this song, though.
Definitely not Jimmy Jam. Pretty sure it's Jerome Benton, also of The Time. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis DID produce this song, though.
She's backing Lisa Keith on "Making Love in the Rain"!
was Janet Jackson actually in this video?
@Peachy King I did hear that he didnt like that people thought it was a Janet Jackson song than his song. Even on ITunes if you go under Janets name, Diamonds can only be purchased if you buy her entire greatest hits. BUT if you go under Herb's name you can buy it as a single. Herb has been around for years so I dont think he needed Janet per say but I get what you mean.....if you didnt know Janet was signed to A&M Records....well Herb Alpert is the A of A&M...her 1st 2 albums didnt sell that well but Control did so I think Herb wanted to get Jimmy and Terry to give him a modern commercial sound which was successful but people only gave credit to Janet and Jimmy/Terry. Also "Making Love In The Rain" is my jam!
Once Jimmy and Terry produced it and Janet was on the vocals.... In the eyes of the public especially back then.... it was their song. Lol! I respect Herb but he had to know putting Janet on that song that people were going to think it's her song. I guess he made the right move in not putting her in the video because that would have sealed the deal with it being a Janet video. Oh yes! Making love in the rain is a classic. That's another one that people make the mistake of thinking is a Janet song.
It's a Janet song now she sings this and perform it on her tours so it's hers.
Either way it's still Janet song as well and now it is permanately her song
@lisa jones so was that a white woman in the limo... & who was the dancer behind the curtain dancing like Janet
Rotflmmfao @ 5:01
she doing the damn thing!
lol
"Yo Julio!" LOL
"THIS WILL ALWAYS BE MY SHIT!."
I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS A VIDEO FOR THIS! AHHHHH!
The Bunny Dance Tho!
