Henley, Don - The Boys Of Summer Lyrics
Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
I'm driving by your house
Though I know you're not home
But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I never will forget those nights
Remember how you made me crazy?
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don't understand what happened to our love
But babe, I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of
I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
I see you walking real slow and you're smilin' at everyone
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back"
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but-
I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got that top pulled down and that radio on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Henley, Don The Boys Of Summer Comments
Best song of the 1980's an endless masterpiece!
My all time favorite Henley song
I think it’s absolutely genius how he used a seagull sound to add that summer edge to it, very unique to the stuff you hear nowadays!
Seven of us lads cruising down Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles on Harley Davidson Ultra's, when this blasts through the speakers on the bikes...Will never ever forget it......
Muy buena canción 😎🍻✌
Me encanta está cancion, un gran éxito ❤
Those where the days, class musicians, writing class songs and singing to boot.lets see some hip hop rap crap so called artists of today do something like that. It will never happen cause they have no fking talent at all.
I was had listening to this great song in 1985, I was 19 and had a crush on a blue eyed, blonde......listening to this takes me back as if it was yesterday :)
The 80's ❤❤❤❤
Amazing song
I am really happy you uploaded this video to YouTube thank you so much because love this song😀
Who have a time machine? I'll pay any money to go back '80s.
It's Jean-Baptiste Mondino, not Herb Ritts PLEAAAAAASSSe !
This song is massively misinterpreted. It actually reflects someone's desire and unrequited love for someone who clearly has no interest in them:
You can hear the desperation in the song:
"Smiling at everyone"
"Summer's out of reach"
"I'm driving by your house, though I know you're not home"
"The sun goes down alone"
You can also hear the inability of the singer to move past this either false or very brief memory they have of this person, which is slowly dying. The rational part of the singer's brain is telling him to accept what he can't change and move on:
"Those days are gone forever, I should just let them go"
"I thought I knew what love was, what did I know"
Notice how the singer idolises the subject of the song and portrays her as perfect, despite her obviously having no interest in him. The irony being that at best this is actually a "girl of summer" - a person who might express passing interest or have a short term relationship and move on very quickly - a point that the singer misses by disparaging the boys of summer that the girl is supposedly sick of . This is a sad piece but reflects all of us who have severe crushes on people who will never like us back. The use of a kid as a drummer really hammers the point home (as crushes are associated with the age group of the child), as does the almost idyllic fantasy like portrayal of a couple in love on the beach that doesn't exist in most established relationships.
To all of you like me: This too shall pass.
Thanks for your illuminating comment!
I`m listening on the polish radio now :)
Ladies and Gentlemen, Fred Savage on drums

Probably one of the best love songs of all time the words in this song are brilliant you can really imagine what he's singing about

One of the most beautiful videos ever made, of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. <3 :'-(
Like who learned that on this song made a cover "The Ataris" and come here to hear the original)
Always enjoy the little dude drumming in the video. The song is a timepiece
I don't know why I never made the connection that this is the same guy that sings Hotel California. It's mad. And he played drums for the Eagles. Mad.

Watch him do this live on Howard stern from 2015... it's absolutely incredible...
Directed by JB Mondino
Produced by D. Naylor
Two music video legends.
What a fabulous track after all these years Thanks John h
I heard a DJ say once that this song is really about the Reagan/Thatcher era of the 1980's, the huge optimism there was, and how we blew it all - the period that followed was recession, pessimism, and hopelessness.
Love his voice 😍
Stevie Nicks had his abortion a few years before he wrote this song.
This sounds really tinny and compressed compared to others on YT.
Who else remembers listening to this awesome song in 1985?
This song makes me imagine myself riding a motorcycle into the unknown while wearing sunglasses. Freedom 😎
Often listen to this while riding across the brecon beacons at sun set

Looks like Youtube is the closest thing to a time machine we have!
Well said mate!
Love this song one day I hope to do a road trip in the USA
My time machine is finished boys I’ll be seeing your mums and dads soon
Strange how you can by mentality as strong as you like, if your body doesn't want to cooperate it doesn't leave you with many choices.
Timeless song - timeless video.
This song inspires me hope love it with sweet little drops rain
Says a lot about current times when we have to look back 40 years for good memories, i hate modern life and technology but have to keep flying, nature is a wonderful thing and more powerful than we know. This song just makes me want to fly away and never return.
Now it's 2020 and I still adore this song 💙
Classic's never die. Good choice of music Ahmed.

It seems like yesterday the first time I heard and loved this song. I am 54 now! What the hell happened? Pure nostalgia. The 80's. Simply the best!

Buenisima canción!!!
makes me remember of a beutiful young lady i once loved and in my heart in a little room she lives still
Lyrics -
When love breaks up
When the dawn light wakes up
A new life is born
Somehow I have to make this final breakthrough
Now
I wake up
Feel just fine
Your face
Fills my mind
I get religion quick
'Cause you're looking divine
Honey, you're touching something; you're touching me
I'm under your thumb, under your spell, can't you see?
If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough, oh yeah
Break through these barriers of pain
Break through to the sunshine from the rain
Make my feelings known towards you
Turn my heart inside and out for you now
Somehow I have to make this final breakthrough
Now, oh yeah
Your smile speaks books to me
I break up
With each and every one of your looks at me
Honey, you're starting something deep inside of me
Honey, you're sparking something this fire in me
I'm outta control
I want to rush headlong into this ecstasy
If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough
If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough
Oh yeah
Breakthrough, breakthrough
If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough
If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough
Breakthrough
A Little Voice inside My Head says Never Look back :]
I love this song, so much better then all the shit rap electronic artifical music today
I lived this song, in '86, by '91 we crashed and burned, and lost I her....Forever.

WAYFARERS BABAY!
2020!🙋🏻♂️👍
At least young girls are safe now. RiH
In French we'd call this kind of stuff a chef d'oeuvre, a masterpiece. What a brain can create. We who are in our 50ies today lived a blessed era. The Archangels came down on Earth for a Visit. I didn't know then. I now fully do.
Always a great classic!
Una de mis temas favoritos
Beatiful song, jan 3rd 2020

Takes me back to my teen years spent out in the county at my grandparents for the summer and my longing to fall in love with someone...
This was a time when musicians can really write songs, can sing and play instruments!!!
So many images, so many memories in the 80s. Some songs like this, bridge the distant magic that we live and knew how to fly with nostalgia
For many years this wasn't available to watch, at least not in my country,
-so glad I can watch a masterpiece video with a classic song.
I was surprised to find it. Yeah been searching a long time and this version wasn't available. Now it is and I'm enjoying it !
Who else mixed it up with brian adams?
Rocco Tanica brought me here.
You can never look back.. But you always do...
