I love this music and all your music, and I just asdfghjkl

I wanted to share a really... different interpretation of this though, that I can't help but think of every time I hear this song. I know its a love song, and its about a parent and them not approving of their daughter's partner (love that pronouns aren't used too, leaves open interpretation ha) but also valuing the daughter's happiness/choices but aaaaaaaa

Whenever I hear this I hear it as my older self talking about my younger self in relation to my transition (I'm a FTM). I hear a male voice, older, singing an odyssey of how they used to be a daughter, and I hear my parents struggling to accept me cuz I'm not on the path they thought I would be. I hear an undertone of disappointment from my family, but then a triumph of my prevailing identity. Its. Completely not what the song was intended, but it provides me such strong emotions and I just wanna say I appreciate it.
