Heart - Lighter Touch Lyrics

Look at me, the answer is so clear
Lying close by the fire place
I wish that you could see yourself this way
My love, with the firelight upon your face.

Ain't it strange how love put things together?
One like you, someone like me.
But no one ever moved me like the way you do
And held against you, love I am weak, oh yeah

Before us now, the dream of love is playin'
A butterfly risin' from the flame
You and me don't need no chain
Since this feeling came to us
A touch of love, a lighter touch

This touch of love, this lighter touch,
Than hands of love through time
Reaching up to have and to hold you
But you know I'll always stay If I
Am free to go. You know I'll take
Your love into my soul. Be lighter
Touch of love this lighter, lighter
Lighter touch

Heart Lighter Touch Comments

The Wilson sisters and the Fisher brothers made some beautiful music together whilst they were all in love. Then again all good things must come to an end. This whole album is hands down their best.

  2. Fluorcyl

Heart at their absolute very best! Extremely powerful, extremely beautiful. I don't know why this was never released. Could have been a number one hit.

Heart wrote the most beautiful rock n roll love ballads of any musical group with a level of intimacy because it was written by women.

Out with a mate last night to see excellent prog band Panic Room. He mentioned Heart, so I will soon email him to listen to Lighter Touch, Nada One and Mistral Wind. Just great songs that I first heard I guess in the early 1980s.

  33. Cedric Herrera

This song is an excellent example why it is important to discover music that is not played on the radio.

    Toni Prince

    I always remember this,

    Leo Floyd

Dude u are so right nada one is one of the most beautiful songs ever written i love playing it and thhe sisters are a god send

only second to mistral wind. I love the version to their greatest hits. mistral wind is more a influence of zep I believe. The jam is heavy the bass especially.😎

  41. Eddie Miller

Timeless Masterpiece,Thanks Howard Leese ..Still So Enigmatic and powerful After All OF These Years.

    blakewallacedish

    this is roger fisher

  42. Dana Kelly

    rock on forever

  43. Wolf Soul

One of my favorite tracks from the most essential Heart album (imo). Excellent lead guitar work from Howard Leese.

  44. Andre R. Newcomb

I was just looking at videos of Paris Opera Ballet and thought of this song.  People who take music and apply a lighter touch of love.

  45. Paul Ceasrine

    "Lighter Touch"

Recorded in August 1978 for the album 'Dog and Butterfly' which was released
    on October 7, 1978.

Another ballad by Ann, that was directed to Mike Fisher, the Sound Engineer
and 'special director' for Heart, as well as Ann's boyfriend a 'spiritual advisor'.

Written by  Ann Wilson, sister Nancy and song collaborator - Sue Ennis.

Another song inspired by Joni Mitchell.

The other members of 'Heart' had no real input on this, though Roger Fisher
did add the Lead Guitar in smooth fashion.

    Wolf Soul

The solo belongs to Howard Leese. It's pretty easy to differentiate his style from Roger's.

  46. Steely Dan

I am listening to these old Heart songs for the first time in over 30 years! I have forgotten how great these tunes are, All I hear are the radio songs that I am quite sick of! These deep cuts are awesome. I have a new found love in Heart again!

    Laura Waldron

I go for the obscure ones myself. Anyone can hear ''What about love?'' How often do you get to hear ''Magazine'' or ''Mistral Wind'' on the radio (raduhio)

    lisa dangelo

most awesome band....not to undermine steely dan for sure....;)

    Libertyywalkk

    I’m addicted to Steely Dan

mmm, so good to come across this song today, as it PERFECTLY sums up the love feelings I have for someone inside of me...mmm, just absolutely perfect, and so good to sing along to also!  Thank you Heart!  :)

  50. Ian Phillips

Would have been cool to see if the band stayed together what may have come, Fisher, Derosier and Fossen were an intregal part of the band.

    blakewallacedish

    band died without them

    Guitar Guy

wilson sisters and their attachment issues. shame. still can't believe they got rid of Howard after what, 40 years?

  51. Paul Economon

  55. poseidon perez

Led Zeppelin was the main influence for them, still Robert Plant WOuld love to sing like annie xD

  56. paul-E

This song really hit home today. My wife is suffering from metastatic breast cancer. She was in pain this morning before her surgery when I played this song for her... she closed her eyes... so restful... so peaceful... it was magical. She turned me on to Heart shortly after we met 32+ years ago, she's seen them live 9 times now (5 with me), and it's one thing that I know cuts to her core. Music is a gift. Those you love are a gift. Those that you love through music is magnified beyond compare!

    kristie crisler

paul-E This is such a beautiful song and the the fact you shared something so personal is a gift and deeply felt by me. It puts everything into such a whole different perspective. I only hope your outcome with your wife is good and you got to spend that time with her relaxing and letting go into that moment....awesome. Thank you for taking the time to write that and I'm sorry no one else replied. Your comments moved me so much that I had to reach out. I've never once posted a comment or a reply. Thank you!

    Sarita Agosto

    paul-E so beautiful

    Arno Burtner

    peace bro x

    lisa dangelo

    precious

  57. Phillip Johnson

Sun Ra heard me sing this tune in front of the Gnostica Bookstore, 1980. Such a tune inspires the voice to soar. He asked, "Why don't you sing?" Sun Ra knew good music.

    Judy Bequette

    Phillip Johnson right on

  58. Lrigyttiw

Love and touch are such wonderful things.

  59. Spike Cutolo

This has been and will always be my fave, no matter how many other Heart songs I drool over..

  60. roctawser

Here, in 2012, wouldn't a Lighter Touch be so wonderful? Wouldn't it be wonderful to tell someone you loved, "This feeling is like a butterfly rising from the flame?" But, no. In this age of touch pads and smart phones, feeling a human emotion such as love is simply not allowed. As for me, I'm a 50 year-old man, and I remember a time when people wanted to be loved more than anything. I feel so bad for the young people of today who will never know that feeling.

  61. brixcitybratt87

    Loves it!!!!!!

  62. hightech346

  65. DRMAC7617

Thank you for posting Dog and Butterfly I learned to control my voice to it I love this

  66. beamboy1

I have just noticed after hearing this song for 34 years that the guitar solos sound very similar to Stairway to Heaven, just slower. Check here at 1:06-1:20 and 3:29-3:43.

  67. TacomaPaul

Their most popular album... and not many know this and the next song Nada One... (listen closely for the wind chimes at end)... ;)

  68. househeadericmd

MOST underrated Heart album/CD - does not get better!

  69. skylilly1
