Head East - Love Me Tonight Lyrics

Drive two hundred miles to a place I've never seen
One more bar, back to the car and
I'm gone before I even know where I've been, yeah
Now I don't know where you come from
I'll prob'ly never see your face again
It really don't matter what your name is
But it's so nice to make another friend

Well, I don't know where you've been
And I don't know who you've had in
But I know you've got exactly what I need
It don't mean too much to me
What you do or who you see
But I'll be leavin' here at 3:00, so love me tonight

Well I've been gone a long time
I really haven't been any place at all
A few more days, the same old way
Well it really doesn't matter at all, no
But you could make the difference
In the way I feel today
We'll have some fun, but I gotta run
If I'm gonna live, I gotta play

Well I don't know where you've been
And I don't know who you've had in
But I know you've got exactly what I need
Well it don't mean too much to me
What you do or who you see
But I'll be leavin' here at 3:00, so love me tonight

(Love me tonight), don't talk about tomorrow
(Love me tonight), don't feed me any sorrow
One night's all we got and then I'm gone, yeah
(Love me tonight), don't ever try to stop it
(Love me tonight), I'll be gone before you know it
Maybe I'll be back before too long

(Love me tonight), don't talk about tomorrow
(Love me tonight), don't feed me any sorrow
One night's all we got and then I'm gone, yeah
(Love me tonight), don't ever try to stop it
(Love me tonight), I'll be gone before you know it
Maybe I'll be back before too long

Well I don't know where you've been
And I don't know who you've had in
But I know you've got exactly what I need
Well it don't mean too much to me
What you do or who you see
But I'll be leavin' here at 3:00, so love me tonight
Well I believe in you and me so love me tonight

I saw Head East back in 78 when they opened for Heart. Rail was also there. Seattle Colosseum before the place was remodeled! What an excellent concert. They rocked and were just as good as Heart. Rail wasn't bad either!

[email protected] I think that the 'Head East Live' album in 1979 was 'Love Me Tonight' recording that was outstanding! That 'live' recording really got it all... Semper Fidelis

Had a chance to see then In Atlanta in 86 and when the singer said "ladies and gentleman a rock and roll anthem" the place went wild. Keep on rocking and come back to Ga. Keeler

  24. D.... N....

I saw these guys just last night and i was blown away by the musicianship. Great band but i wish they would get the respect they deserve. The crowd was small but very appreciative. I got to talk to the band members after the show and they were extremely friendly and engaging. I have seen them in the past and will continue going to see them as long as they still have the desire to please their audience.

One of the better endings to a song.

    b.... d....

    bronco devil very underrated band

    b.... d....

Most definitely agree. Being a hopeless romantic, I love the ending. If the lead singer wrote it, it fits Met him in LaCrosse, WI ., 1981. Super nice guy. They kicked the door off the place. Good to be alive!

@6hemi9 Me too!! I was 12 years old, Old Glory Theater... Six Flags was cool in the 70's...

    B.... D....

Was there when they stopped the concert to get the guy tripping down from the tree

    B.... D....

That was senior night. We missed the concert. We were stuck in the 3 - 4 hour jam on highway 44. Six flags couldn't accommodate the # of cars or teenagers headed to see headeast that night.

  51. j.... O....

kevin, i saw em in 87 or so in K C , free down town concert, good memories, that big guy in the overalls with the wash board was the heart and spirit of the night;)

  52. K.... B....

    Spirit fest Kansas City mo.

  53. 1.... ....

I hired Head East in the summer of 99 for the Belleville Jaycees 30th Annual Deutschfest and these guys simply rocked the Ozark Mountain Daredevils off the stage, I should have hired Ozark to open for Head East, oh well lesson learned.

The lead singer pulled my wife on stage to dance with him during one of the songs and it was great, I have the entire 90 minute show on video maybe one day I will post it here.

These guys were very professional and very nice, if you ever get the chance say hi to them they will not blow you off!

    SIRR1

    1.... ....

They are two different types of music altogether. Love both groups. I have to say back in 1976 I partied with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils at a house in Springfield, Mo. Two of the best days & nights I've ever had. My buddy and I were invited over and the inside was beautiful and had wicker furniture. They were very outgoing, but very down to earth. We went all night from 8:30 pm until daylight the following day, rested and did it again. It was all of them too. Buddy Brayfield, John Dillon, Larry Lee, Mike 'Supe' Granda, Randle Chowning, Steve Cash. My buddies uncle was their manager. I loved the 70's

    1.... ....

I was born & raised in Belleville,Illinois    My neighbor was...Neal Doughty!  He was founder of...REO Speedwagon! We both lived on...Cambridge Drive!  He was real nice! I live in Kirkwood,Missouri!    The band...Head East graduated from Kirkwood High...1975!

    1.... ....

I got 2 tell ya ozard moutain devils anit a ez act to follow, they rock!!

    1.... ....

Flat As A Panncake is a great record.

    1.... ....

Well they played Belleville again this past summer (2018) :) Plus, they played for the 50th anniversary of the opening of Carlyle lake this past summer, as well.

  54. r.... g....

Whenever I have pancakes, I think of Head East. And whenever I head east, I think of sausage, eggs and ham for no other reason than I left them back west.

  55. 9.... ....

    K-SHE 95

    9.... ....

@***** Agreed, anymore it's just not the same... Anyone who lived in St. Louis in the 70's knew where K-She was in Crestwood, we used to go by and get bumper stickers, and every one in a while a T-Shirt... Glad to be part of the last generation who remembers how things used to be..

    9.... ....

+marc benz I'm there, kind of makes me homesick!

    9.... ....

Wow, what memories. Anyone know whatever happened to Mike Megaris? Worked with him in the Chicago and last heard him on KSHE 95 while in St. Louis back in '73. Good guy.

  56. R.... K....

I would agree with 7turnsouthernhighway, I really got into Head East's albums, but thought they took advantage of allot of studio work until  I saw then for $10 at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver,Co.. Summerville was defiantly one of the best  guitars I've heard play.

    R.... K....

I saw them in Everett, Wa, a suburb of Seattle, around 99 and they kicked ass. We were all very surprised and as I recall, I paid about ten bucks as well. Sure beats having to spend $500 on the Stones today and the boys look like skinny ants.

Recorded at Golden Voice Studio Pekin Ill. I saw the masters during a school field trip......lucky me!

  61. D.... R....

WLS Chicago! Larry Lujack playing all the hits!!!

  62. J.... ....

They were a great Midwestern band with a great sound. Does anyone remember who the girl was on the cover? I think it was Roger Boyd's wife.

  63. M.... ....

Brings back so many memories and its like I'm young again but I know reality says I'm not. AT least I got in on the tale end of what was good in America...now it sucks.

  64. b.... r....

Went to high school w/ these guys...........should've known they would make great music. Ahhhh, I wish I could go back.

  65. C.... ....

I have "Flat As A Pancake" on CD, not LP. I get into the habit of calling CDs albums or LPs.

    Bravo, Head East.

  66. E.... v....

Never, leave the wrapping on a LP they warp. I have my LP collection from the late 60s through the late 80s. Still like the day I opened them.

  67. s.... ....

or I should say...the 'low end' Amazing song

  68. a.... o....

KSTT was on River Drive, right?

  69. a.... o....

Yeah, I am from Bettendorf/PV area! Love Head East!! I remember KSTT as well!

  70. J.... ....

    KSHE95!!!!!!! :)

  71. s.... ....

My hats off to the producer...the mix on that record was excellent. GREAT bass

  72. C.... ....

I remember calling my local AM Top 40 radio station back in early 1976 (KSTT-AM 1170 out of Davenport, IA) & requested this song. The DJ's name was Jim McFarland. See, even a ten year old kid knew a great song when he heard it! It's a shame Head East wasn't around all that long. They split a few years after both "Never Been Any Reason" & "Love Me Tonight" were originally released. I have the "Flat as a Pancake" LP on CD - unopened!

    Bravo, John Schlitt & Co.!

  73. S.... ....

    @fuzzy834 AMEN!

  74. R.... S....

Love "Flat as a Pancake" But there self titled album "Head East" I think is my favorite.

  75. b.... l....

Seen these guys with Ozark Mountain Daredevils at the Surf Ballroom Clear Lake Iowa 1976.
    great concert!!

  76. M.... B....

This song reminds me of 500 Miles by the Hooters. There's a bit of the same melody for a few seconds.

  77. M.... B....

@Xzonza1 Yeah, you're right about Geddy Lee, but I think at times he sounds even more like Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe.

  78. E.... ....

The vocalist singing the verses sounds kind of like Geddy Lee in my opinion.

    E.... ....

That is John Schlitt lead singer of Petra

  79. M.... R....

@fuzzy834 so well said. my mom passed away recently and I had to go "home" for the first time in 9 years but it made for alot of wonderfully vivid "flashbacks" and memories esp. hearing music like this! I don't even have to try cuz it all comes right back like it was yesterday just on the first notes of a song! Man those WERE some of the best days of my life!

  80. R.... P....

I saw Head East at the Coliseum (RIP) in Benld, IL in the early '80s.

  81. b.... ....

Fort Lauderdale 1979, maybe it was 1980, either way great show!

  82. K.... N....

I dedicate this song to Steve Dodge...miss you!

  83. j.... O....

my favorite head east song, saw em in K C back n 87 or so, hella a show, big boy in the over halls leads the band but he wasnt the lead singer, GREAT SHOW, thank you HEAD EASt>>>>>>>>>;)

  84. K.... ....

A lost classic from the 70s... a wonderful song and beautifully played.

  85. a.... t....

    @fuzzy834
I am with you!!! We had a BLAST!!

  86. W.... A....

I have been listening to this album for 30+ years. It never gets old.

  87. T.... M....

Head East is still 1 of my favorite bands ever since i first herd them playing from my friends 8-track player in his basement. I think it had to have been 1977 or 1978 eirthr way i love this band!!

  88. T.... ....

@bizzyf It's easy to find much vintage music on iTunes as bands from the 70's and 80's want to keep earning royalties. Download "The Millennium Collection" from Head East and you will have exactly what you need.

  89. s.... ....

I loved this whole album. What a great song. These are the best memories.

  90. t.... ....

@fuzzy834 im 18 man and i like rap and alot of old rock like head east i live in illinois and they allways play this stuff on kshe95 i grew up with it man and i dont like alot of angry stuff good vybes is allways the best man

  91. T.... T....

@italion21 That's funny, italion21. They know all the tricks, huh? Well, it sounds like you've got the right spirit. You'll learn tricks of your own. Slainte.

  92. K.... m....

I've been lucky enofe to play music with a former drummer for Head East Steve Ricker played drumms for 2yrs in the 90's good times great band!!!

  93. p.... ....

I play the music from the 60s and 70s for my children 13-11 and they love it.. :)

  94. V.... ....

@kitten252 Oh I couldn't agree more!! Luv this older music, I wouldnt want to have grown up in todays world, & the shit music of today reflects todays society!

  95. V.... ....

@fuzzy834 Amen to that!! how true that was!! i wouldnt want to grow up in todays world at all!!

  96. w.... ....

    HEAD EAST---"LIKE WHERE? OK"

  97. C.... F....

Videos and songs like this is what makes Youtube so great. It would be very difficult ot find this music anywhere unless you had the original. Flat as a pancake may have been the first LP I ever bought. I remember the kids playing this record at the first boy-girl birthday party when I was about 13. Great Memories!

  98. S.... T....

I feel very fortunate to have lived my youth in this amazing era of rock n roll! This was my theme song in college and I'm dismayed at the lack of creativity in today's "rock" music. Simple lyrics sung with honesty accompanied by crisp, talented musicians is what makes a great song. Too bad music isn't performed this way anymore.

  99. M.... J....

    hey trixy shut up
