I bough this in a record shop in Afflecks Palace in Manchester in the 198'0's.12" Flicknife. I still own it, I think of it every time I go the dentist,every time somebody else goes to the dentist,every time someone someone says Valium..but I never panic coz there's no need.A song of beauty.

They have tried alternatives to Valium,(pregablyn,hee,hee),for one! Not one of these pseudo drugs work the same and anti-depressants have caused more deaths already, than Valium ever could or would in 10 lifetimes. Legalise cannabis for fux sake,(have you seen someone on strong spice?)

dont know about legalise cannabis , some of my friends who smoked that stuff went onto harder stuff and some died others just messed up ,spending their wages on some crap of and then fall asleep, a bit like working all day then fall asleep ,as for legalise it a bit of research would be good ( not the drug .. the person using it) , never used that cr@p so i can not say , ,this just aimed at those who want to try or be part cool crowd rock on. rip those who of my friends who went down a dark path .

Al M I have seen Hawkwind live about 10 times. The last time was about three years ago when they played a festival a mile from my house and they were awful. Dave Brock refused to sing and the set sucked. I even bought a lab coat for the occasion! Every other time they were amazing. At the Bilbo Baggins birthday bash it rained so hard all the electric on stage blew up so they played an acoustic set. Spirit of the age was brilliant. So was the acid!

Hawkwind made a shit load of albums. From the older ones like Greasy truckers party to later ones like Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music which was one of my favs along with Sonic Attack and Masters of the universe. I was introduced to them by a friend who recorded them (badly) from album to tape and listened to them with a walkman while stoned.After that i was hooked. Bought a lot of albums as i loved the covers on the wall. Yeah you wont ever get a band like Hawkwind again. This generation's not ready for music as good as this. Shame.

I can sort of relate to this. Massive Hawkwind fan growing up in the 80s. used to see them live at Edinburghs playhouse as they did a yearly gig. Think it was the 25th anniversary gig Lemmy came on at the end to do Silver Machine. Was brilliant. Anyway when i took mushroomns each year from sept-early november we picked them fresh and made tea which tasted awful. we dried out the rest. The best trips i had was when i had 2 10mg valium in my back pocket. Just in case things went tits up because you know when youre tripping theres always something weird whether its coming out from the graveyard after having a great trip then walk right into a bunch of drunk people fighting something always happened but i could enjoy the trip because i knew if me or my friend had a bad trip a couple of valdos brought u back to earth lol. Long live those space rock folks that were Hawkwind. SPIRIT OF THE AGE.

48 years ago my parent gave me sleeoing pills so they could get me to school. With an almost chain smoking habit. It was the only way they knew how to get me to shool. Otherwise their smoking in the confines of a car (3 smokers) made me feel ill. So sick. Hughy sick. So I could only travel with the window open. My mother died whilst I was only 20 years old. My father gave up smoking soon after.

This is one of their best tracks, curious it gets so little attention, comparatively; I guess there's not too much to it songwriting wise but really it's just perfect.

Same with "British Tribal Music" and "Hash Cake '77". They were just killer tracks seem to always get overlooked as they weren't on LPs. "Valium 10" is such a classic!!!

In the early 90s I once spent three hours on a Spanish bus from Barcelona to Zaragoza with "The Collection" tape, containing amongst others, those two songs AND "Douglas In the Jungle" and the thing did auto-reverse the whole journey. Someone behind me was smoking the weed so strong you could cut it out of the air and I fell asleep for most of the journey with the music clearly audible throughout. I finished up completely off on both the smoke and the music, by the time I got off the bus it was as if my feet weren't even touching the ground. That was the state in which I first met my future in-laws....

Fabulous... Hawkwind was my first ever concert back in 1979 as a wide eyed and impressionable 13 year old. Liverpool Empire...clouds of pungent smoke and mind blowing music. Loved them ever since.
