Hawkwind - Time We Left This World Today Lyrics

Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
So many people (seem to say)
So many people (seem to say)
So many people (far away)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (who you meet)
They watch you as you (far behind)
Brain police are (not far behind)
Brain police are (not far behind)
Brain police are (not far away)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
Cast sly glances (at who you meet)
Cast sly glances (at who you meet)
Cast sly glances (at who you meet)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)

World today
World today
World today
World today

They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
Time we left (this world today)
They watch you as you (walk the street)
They watch you as you (walk the street)

  2. P.... M....

I'm getting distinct "Can" vibes from this.. and that's not a bad thing at all

  3. i.... ....

  4. i.... ....

there are not many flawless albums out there, but this fucker is definitely one of them

  5. A.... S....

I wish those riffs from 6:00 to 6:40 never ended. A shame Hawkwind never revisited that segment in all their later versions of Time We Left.

When I first heard "SPACE RITUAL" I was just 14 in 1974, Well hearing my first Wind Album, !!! I,d  heard Washing machine ,but this was a whole different planet, universe, no warning, no preparation for the ONSLAUGHT, game changing life changing blast, the PINNACLE, IS Lemmys BASS at 4 minute 20 seconds in this remaster ,,,later in the "Ritual" I think, I KNEW the world had changed to having meaning and purpose, creation and reason, ,,,later I took the "Right stuff" to accompany the journey, But to this day, its obvious, When LEMMY begins his SYTHING lines , that's why we were put on this planet. I meant to explain this track in more detail, for the moment I,m  just going to listen again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Time we left....

Ladbroke Grove meets Shepherds Bush.  Last night I dreamed of a Hawkwind / Steptoe mashup, the band are living / squatting in Oil Drum Lane but Albert and Harold don’t seem to mind. It’s the future but also at the same time the 1970s, dystopian nightmarish London, overpopulated, food shortages, vigilante gangs roaming the steeets. Part of the Westway has collapsed. The only solution is to build a spaceship and leave Earth. They are trying to construct one out of all the junk in the yard. Harold is welding together an old Ascot to a bit of car engine. The frame is a bubble car. There is something despairing about it though; I can see that it will never get out of the Earth’s atmosphere. Appropriately, Hawkwind - those who aren’t working on the ‘ship’ - begin playing Time We Left This World Today. Harold beats out the rhythm on a car door panel like Verdi’s Anvil Chorus. Albert joins in the call-and-response space chant, not with words but with pre-linguistic guttural Steptoe sounds - “garrrn,” “gyerrr.”

I loved the band. They were terribly underrated. I saw them in 1973 or 4 at The Corn Exchange in Cambridge, England. The Groundhogs opened for them. Hawkwind had two naked dancing girls on either side of the stage in cages with liquid oil lights on them. What a rush, AND an eye opener for a 15 yr. old girl who really hadn't been exposed to much before that. Good memories! Thanks for the post!

  9. b.... ....

Jesus introduced me to hawkwind and been a disciple ever since.

    Awesomeness

  16. Z.... H....

Is it just me, or am I hearing a bit of a King Crimson influence here?

    Z.... H....

    Maybe a bit.

    Z.... H....

@Banished From The Dwarf Planet Much more of a Krautrock trance influence. Sounds like Faust or Can.

  17. S.... S....

In all the times I've seen Hawkwind, going back nearly 40 years, this is always my favourite live track.

The Vibe of Om in your backbone ie God

  19. g.... t....

At the Height of the Full Moon

Lemmy was the first bassist I ever heard that played chords. That full bass sound at 6:00 would make the room shake.

It was suggested by some that his name originated from the phrase "lemmy a quid 'til Friday" because of his alleged habit of borrowing money from people to play slot machines. I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.

    A.... S....

are those chords or just 4'ths?

  21. k.... w....

when it comes to hawkwind I would recommend reading the sci fi novel the hawklords,by micheal morcock.

  22. L.... D....

Pissed out on my head on Brandy this sounds even extra good even from an acid haze from a long time b4. The Brock / Lemmy ticket takes us to a safe haven of uncontaminated purity

  23. J.... F....

Those chords Lemmy hits at the end are some of the fucking heaviest shit I've heard around this period. Lead bass if you will. RIP

    J.... F....

Yeah , 'Wind are one of my top bands..... But Lemmy era HW is truly a magical alignment .......

  24. S.... S....

Hawkwind "sacking" Lemmy was a grave error... I imagine that Capt. Brock was perturbed by Lemmy, as I imagine he was , maybe unintentionally , was striving to be the alpha....
His bass technique and sound were incredible... When Lemmy was at the rudder of Spaceship Hawkwind, the journey truly was cosmic......

    Mr. Kilminster, S. Cadet 1969/4:SRS:
    Salutes on all frequencies......

    S.... S....

Hmm, not too sure about that.

    S.... S....

I read that the whole thing was instigated by Nik Turner and they voted 4-2 in favour of sacking him and Dave Brock was one of the 2 who voted against.

    S.... S....

Something to do with a speed bust at an airport from memory.

    S.... S....

    That was the final straw.

    S.... S....

If you run a band, you need someone who will be able to turn up, do the business and stay out of the attention of the law, I think Lemmy struggled with all of these at the time.

  25. T.... ....

Lemmy died so I blasted this tune all night!

  26. k.... ....

this is what I played when I heard. RIP, man, RIP

  27. j.... ....

Oh yes, this is rock and roll

  28. M.... ....

    καυλωτικοοοοοοοοοοοοο?

  29. l.... ....

Fantastic song.  It would be apposite to have this playing at one's funeral.

    l.... ....

Thanks Bro, you Just gave me a good idea for mine..

  30. C.... A....

archaic and timeless, people will listen to it even in 200 years and will be impressed...
