i'm actually a black dude (despite my avatar) and i grew up in the bronx on hip hop/rap. in my mid/late teens i started getting into pop rock like avril lavigne then graduated to pop punk (sum 41), then things started getting a litle dark when i promoted to Nirvana but then my boy, who was head deep in real metal and rock. He put me on to 3 bands Deftones, Cannibal Corpse and mother fucking Hatebreed. and Puitan was the first song i listened to off this album he gave me. and my.. life... changed.... forever....

Like the band's name, i think this song's meaning is a misnomer. It is a condemnation. Not an honest expression. They are describing the enemy. Not themselves. I am pretty sure Hatebreed takes pride in humanity and would not condemn it. A don't know how a man who is thankful for being born of an act of hate could possibly condemn life.

Shadows Fall came up there too, along w/ many others. Being on the bill opening up for HB was no big deal back then. My old drummer opened for hatebreed, I opened for SF a bunch of times. Whoopity-doo. Watching them now, even live, even close in the "pit" , you might as well just watch a dvd. Just not the same. It's like the kindergarten version for sure 8^D
I remember watching these guys playin for 30-40 ppl at the Hanover house in meriden. Well before that crack haven was torn down. That's when they were really hatebreed. Shanahan was a kid from a very residential cul-de-sac type neighborhood in a quaint little town, lol. He fuckin made it tho. For sure. Being trapped in a 30'x40' room packed nuts-to-butts with monsters throwing elbows and spin kicks, loving it. That's hatebreed. CT skate in bristol, The Webster riot. Knives, guns, Good times....
