Harry Nilsson - Think About Your Troubles Lyrics

Sit beside the breakfast table
Think about your troubles
Pour yourself a cup of tea
And think about the bubbles
You could take your teardrops
And drop them in a teacup
Take them down to the riverside
And throw them over the side
To be swept up by a current
And taken to the ocean
To be eaten by some fishes
Who were eaten by some fishes
And swallowed by a whale
Who grew so old, he decomposed
He died and left his body
To the bottom of the ocean
Now everybody knows
That when a body decomposes
The basic elements
Are given back to the ocean
And the sea does what it ought'a
And soon there's salty water
(Not too good for drinking)
'Cause it tastes just like a teardrop
(So we run it through a filter)
And it comes out from the faucet
(And pours into a teapot)
Which is just about to bubble
Now
Think about your troubles

  4. s.... ....

Nillson had it all. Melodic mind, wonderful voice. And genius. Find your voice. We listened to this at night while in the Army in Vietnam. Tough guys, all verklempt over this beautiful album.

    s.... ....

Glad you made it back from Nam... I wish everyone had.

  5. A.... D....

Why do I think of a man in a top hat and a cane dancing on stage doing a male version of burlesque?

  6. i.... p....

I'm a twelve year old in 2019 and I love this song. Every so often the words pop into my head and I get that nice happy sad feeling.

    i.... p....

Welcome to Harry Nilsson, young comrade.

    i.... p....

I'm 65 and I cannot stop singing this song to myself. I've almost got it right. I saw the original The Point as aired that had Dustin Hofman narrating. Which was odd enough. There are two other versions , one with, predictably, Nilsson narrating, and another with Ringo Starr. It's a joy no matter.

  7. w.... ....

My Mom just crossed over to The Other Side on July 20 Moon Day. I miss her so much.

  8. J.... L....

I'm a 90's child, but my dad introduced me to this movie... I grew up with "The Point", Moody Blues, The Strawbs, King Crimson, Jon Anderson, That funny song "Hocus Pocus" by Focus... (I thought song was the best when I was little)... My dad's lullabies to me consisted of "Voyage to the Moon" I know Donovan did it but Mary Hopkins was who I listened to... I would give anything to go back to being a kid... my little sister passed away in 2013, my mom in 2018... and now my dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer... I find myself facing losing both my parents and I'm not even out of my twenties.... and life seems so hard... but I listen to this song and remember the little girl that loved this song... and it's comforting.... thanks for uploading!

  9. H.... H....

I was listening to the point when my brother was born. I was two but I still like to come back and listen to this song.

A creepy, weird children's album for creepy, weird children made by a creepy, weird childlike man. This shit is garbage.

Just stumbled upon this 2010 video. Loved The Point by Harry Nilsson. 1971. Now I've got to find the animated film. Thank you for this. Made my day.

  20. b.... p....

This has an interesting history. I believe Dustin Hoffman narrated the original show. I'm pretty sure about this as I saw this when it first aired. Ringo Starr has done a version as has, well, Harry himself.

  38. B.... B....

    Amazingg

  39. B.... ....

I grew up in the 70's with The Point, my mom loved this song. Welp, 2 yrs ago nearly to the date, Mom passed away. We scattered her ashes at sea. I happened to look this video up while thinking about the songs she loved, and here it was... the very balm for my aching soul that I needed. Thank you for posting. This generation?...They'll only "get it" if the parents teach it to 'em.

    B.... ....

You never know how you will feel untill the death of a parent happens to you. If you find peace in Nilsson, great. My sister who died in 05 loved Nilsson. I even went to his vampire movie with her. Music reminds us of people and the times when that music was popular. Hold onto the happy memories of your mother, you only get one. Bless you and listen to lotts of Nilsson. I hope you get this message.💘💗💛💚💙💜

    Unless they stumble upon this.

    wackydelly84

I get it now. I still hope this film inspires future generations.

    B.... ....

I was born in 1999... I grew up with this and know the meaning quite well.

    B.... ....

I have shared this, my favorite of all time, with both my children. I hope they will share it with theirs when they grow older and have a family of their own.

  40. B.... M....

Dr Leatham brought me here! The legacy of life!

  41. C.... H....

    What genera even is this

    C.... H....

Go back about 40 years Cindy...I used to have the vinyl album (that was pretty much all they had back then, well...8-track and reel to reel too...). I watched the tv-made show when it came out (in color, luckily...). The world was a very different place back then...Viet Nam was still pretty heavy in everyone's thoughts. So there were plenny of troubles around. :)

    C.... H....

What a very true and sweet reply Roachbait

  42. R.... p....

VERY under-rated composer/singer/musician too bad hes gone

  43. E.... M....

I used to listen to the album about every day when I was 10. I always think of those times, lonely summer days, it's so sad and beautiful. And I love everything about what Harry has recorded.

    E.... M....

My 1st dog's name was ARROW! and looked just like him!

    E.... M....

Me too. Staring at the images in the album sleeve, listening to Nilsson's songs and narration kept me entertained for a huge part of my youth.

    E.... M....

    @Paul Matthew G. Was it a blue dog ???😅😂

  44. A.... C....

His harmonies with himself are great.

  45. J.... J....

    Great!!!

  46. R.... ....

This song makes no sense to me. But DAMN is it catchy

  47. R.... R....

Great song and ! an even greater musician.

  48. H.... C....

I awoke with this stuck in my head before having the cup of tea and painkillers that start another day of decomposition now over five years since what doctors expected would be my Destination Point. More than anything, the music of greats like Nilsson keep me going, so thank you.

    H.... C....

    respect

    H.... C....

Music is the doorway to more and more delight...let this song lead you.

    H.... C....

    You go girl!

    H.... C....

    You have a point there,

    H.... C....

Hope you're still out there, Howard... I'm reading your words three years later. This slow decomp really gets to me sometimes too.

  49. Q.... C....

Morton32 Try some stuff from Schoolhouserock watch?v=koZFca8AkT0 :) QC

  50. S.... G....

Can anyone here recommend any other bands or artists (excluding The Beatles) who make songs similar to this one in particular? I've tried listening to Harry Nilssons other albums but, they are not really comparable to the songs in this album. There is almost like a Schoolhouse Rock vibe to this song, and not just the video but the song itself, that I'm interested in.

    S.... G....

    Try Emitt Rhodes

    S.... G....

    Judee Sill

    S.... G....

    Small Faces, Ronnie Lane

    S.... G....

    Semi-Average Guy

    Arcade Fire, maybe?

    S.... G....

    Semi-Average Guy
Badfinger is a band that a lot of people never even heard about and they are so good. The song “Without you” that Harry Nilsson sings was actually written (and sung) by Badfinger. Another band that is amazing is Raspberries. I have loved them since i was 12. The lead singer is Eric Carmen, who wrote many hits during his solo career.

  51. S.... S....

They did do a remake of this song. Done by the Aslyum Street Spankers. 4 years ago

  52. A.... P....

    Great song Richard

  53. I.... Y....

What a genius compiliation and project he composed. I love this song, I even bought the mp3! Haha the 70's were the best time of my life. Wish I could go back!

    I.... Y....

You can, my friend. Get the "medications" the composer used just then!

  54. m.... r....

someone needs to remake the point with todays graphics

    m.... r....

To the generation who need to see this, good thing we have YouTube and DVDs. That should do the trick. Remaking it would ensure that future generations continue to have no clue. I'm sick of people taking something good and perverting it by thoughtlessly throwing technology at it.

    m.... r....

hell no, love this super 70s stuff

    m.... r....

Remake? Why would anyone do that, it is perfection as is. Children today would love it just as children and adults did when it was made.

    m.... r....

😕 Are you outta your mind?you can't improve perfection, remaking it would destroy it. Apparently you missed the point of The Point.

    m.... r....

Maybe a remaster, but without the original visuals it just wouldn't have the same charm

  55. m.... r....

forget terapy- i saw the point when i was twelve and it should have been all i needed lol

  56. M.... C....

I'm sorry replay button... you had it coming though!!!

  57. E.... ....

'Not too good for drinking...'. Hilarious, yet deep lyrics. Thanks for posting!

  60. S.... H....

  61. 7.... ....

    2.... ....

  68. 2.... ....

  78. J.... N....

I sang this song to my children when they were little and upset....

    J.... N....

That is so sweet. I usually sing You Are My Sunshine :-)

  79. b.... ....

You can't go wrong with NILSSON!

    b.... ....

IKR MAN ! i mean seriously harry is ...harry man

  80. a.... ....

I can sing it adequately. I play a cover of this on guitar. Very tricky to play and sing this one. I've been meaning to upload an acoustic video of my cover. I play it live at coffee shops and such. It's not polished enough for YouTube yet though IMO. You play any instruments?

  81. T.... N....

    I can sing this perfectly.

  82. a.... ....

I respect that. Sorry if I offended you. To each their own. This is just one of very favorite Nilsson songs ever; I can't barely contain myself about it.

  83. T.... N....

I heartily concur, but you could have done without the vulgarity sir......my opinion.

  84. i.... a....

My brother and I used to sing this song for our parents during camping trips. I turned into a teacher who was like the kid Oblio and my brother became a jazz musician who plays all over the world (his daughter, too),playing and listening to all points of view. Thank you.

  85. a.... ....

Don't worry, in 8 years He'll enjoy it stoned too.

  86. Q.... C....

  90. B.... ....

Thanks for posting this. I think I was about 10 when I first saw this. I loved it then and love it now.

  91. a.... ....

    Zero dislikes. Damn fucking straight.

  92. A.... R....

@mamtazzia Sorry to say, but they only way is to find someone that may have it recorded from that broadcast. Thankfully my dad recorded an airing of a different broadcast with Alan Thike doing the narraration. Far far supperior to Ringo. After listening to Alan Thike for years, I cannot listen to the Ringo one, it doesn't sound genuine.

  93. t.... ....

great, what is you tube and the down loading????
    Bastards, plenty of adds though

  94. b.... ....

Forty years ago, one night when I was in high school, my parents went out, I got stoned, turned on the TV, and saw this excellent little cartoon for the first time. It was narrated by Dustin Hoffman. Recently, I got the DVD for a five-year old. He wasn't stoned, of course, but I think he enjoyed it every bit as much as I had all those years ago. But the evil count scared him a bit, and he covered his eyes. The DVD was narrated by Ringo Starr. I liked the Dustin Hoffman version better.

  95. c.... b....

    PS...BLESS you for uploading this!!!

  96. c.... b....

Oh WOW Oh WOW!!! Obviously I'm in awe!

  97. d.... ....
