Harry Nilsson - Life Line Lyrics

Down to the bottom
Hello, is there anybody else here?
It's cold and I'm so lonely
Hello, is there anybody else here?

Hello, won't you throw me down a Life Line?
I'm so afraid of darkness
And down here, it's just like night time

Oohs, are all around me
Hello, will you please send down a Life Line?

Down and there isn't any hope for me
Unless this dream which seems so real
Is just a fantasy

Harry Nilsson Life Line Comments
  1. b.... ....

Moonbeam Song gets me too. Almost the same chord progression. Beautiful.

  2. K.... p....

Harry we miss you lad. Tearing up my heart never was done so brilliant.

  3. p.... h....

Do they have to be told to appreciate a great song!??!! WTF!!!!!

  4. D.... M....

Back in the day when we had talent like Harry Nilsson.

  5. m.... m....

Harry's phrasing on this version of Life Line particularly shows inner beauty of this song ...

  6. M.... C....

    God I love him

  7. L.... F....

I just love him!!! Always have!!!

  8. w.... w....

Oh god i love him so much when iwas so young and heard his first solo album so AMAZING....i always think wow with that incresible voice he could have ened up working as a banker his whole life and we would never hear his truly one of a kind GENIUS...
I can feel so much from his music.....his joy , his sorrow....his Beauty....rest in peace and love Harry....

  9. H.... C....

    Agreed absolutely !
His BBC special contains his very best performances available, utterly surpassing the album versions.
It's clear that he felt very relaxed and at ease in the UK, he did his best work here. Maybe the Scotch is that much better than Bourbon, and the BBC is well-known for its excellent quality snuff as well 😉
Listening to this everyday of late. Spellbound.

  10. N.... S....

Harry wasn't an extravert, but he was a great musician. My sister loved him so much, so l heard him all the time. He did so much in a short time. He died of a heart attach, not anything else. He left behind a wife and five kids. I sure wish he had of been more famous. Harry was considered one of the many, fifth Beetle. The radio didn't censor his songs, eighter!

  11. C.... E....

The real deal. No bollocks...just talent and a gift for expressing true emotion.

  12. L.... A....

Magnificent! Wish he was still with us!

  13. B.... ....

makes me cry its so beautiful to hear

  14. c.... p....

This man was pure genius...i cried.

  15. M.... C....

Being down at the bottom really makes me appreciate this song. Feel it in my soul.

  16. e.... o....

I cry when I hear this song. It’s so beautiful.

  19. A.... N....

Merci du fond de mon coeur pour cette chanson.... Merci Harry Nilsson

  20. M.... A....

Why is the world missing this? Not one post in four years till this one, today. Nilsson is a joy.

  21. P.... 1....

    Artista straordinario

  22. B.... W....

What a profound gift it is to hear this genius play! thank you! The Point is still my favorite animated movie!

  23. T.... M....

This is from "The Music Of Nilsson" which appeared as a special on BBC. If you want to see it in it's entirety: https://youtu.be/w0rOOdjQUIU

    T.... M....

+The Monkees Archives Still scratching my head why the BBC or the Nilsson estate has not pushed to get this remastered onto a DVD release. It's basically the only live Nilsson performance when he was comfortable and this is the peak of his vocal abilities. It's just an unique capture of his amazing voice, at age 30 I believe.

  24. R.... R....

Had the honor of talking to this great guy many times at Beatlefest. Miss him. First time to hear this song an man how I can relate. Bless you Harry

  25. l.... d....

My God, he's a beautiful man

  26. R.... R....

    send chills down my spine

  27. b.... ....

This makes me cry, wish he had, had trusted friends by his side, in dark times xxxxxxxxxxx

  28. D.... C....

Rufus Wainwright sounds as if he heard this a bunch. Great vocals

    D.... C....

I think Rufus sounds a lot like Harry.

  29. L.... F....

Just beautiful. This song highlights his voice so wonderfully. True emotion comes through. I could listen to nothing but Harry til the day I die.

  30. s.... ....

The phrase at 2:45 is one of the most powerful musical passages I have ever heard!

    s.... ....

I agree!! And watch him as he holds the note... effortless! Harry is superb!

    s.... ....

  31. K.... S....

this version is amazing! I was trying to find the version from the movie, because I am feeling like I am falling down a dark hole.................and I came across this. What an amazing artist. His inspiration for this was when he was doing acid, and noticed all the trees had points, and all of the houses had points, etc.......you can read about in on Wikipedia........amazing talent.......beautiful song

  32. t.... ....

Come back Harry!!! And bring John with you!

  33. f.... ....

    the greatest music.

  34. Z.... S....

Trying to go to sleep and couldn't stopping thinking about how much I am afraid of dying... instantly thought of this song and I had to grab my phone and search for it and listen to it... I guess I can go to sleep now. (for the night, not forever) 😌

    Z.... S....

Sometimes at 3 or 4 am panic attacks I listen to the Moonbeam Song to get back to sleep too. Miss this man. Hope you're still out there, Zick.

  35. N.... F....

This is my life line right now.

  36. P.... V....

One of the greatest chord progressions of a ballad you'll ever hear. What talent. I could listen to this one hundred times straight and not get tired of it.

    P.... V....

    heard every word of that...

    P.... V....

Me too. I feel some musical artists have the rare ability to convey and capture pure truth in music, and that is why they never get old or tiring. After all, truth never goes out of style.

    P.... V....

One hundred times straight... and another hundred, stoned.

  37. s.... ....

Too bad Harry didn't do concerts. He was GREAT!!

    s.... ....

    I agree!!

  38. f.... w....

    Saddest song in the world...

    f.... w....

Such longing. He reaches in, and tears out your heart!

  39. j.... ....

Just discovered this song two weeks ago... Been listening to it constantly.

    j.... ....

    Been nearly 50, for me.

  40. j.... ....

Most people need three chords to play the blues, but Harry only needed two :)

    j.... ....

what the fuck does that even mean? mind your own business.

    j.... ....

if its nothing, whyd you reply? so, first its nothing, then it is what it is. why do people talk such meaningless drivel?

    j.... ....

you seem to be an expert at talking drivel...as if only you can dissect music and put it in it's proper box...it's a great song by a singer with a beautiful voice; what does anything else matter...

    j.... ....

As harry would say, buh blu buh bluh luh luh bluh-ues are all around me.

    j.... ....

    @Robert McGee not the point

  41. S.... S....

Love Harry.....just admire his ability to make his own feelings be shown by his amazing voice and piano playing.....Thank you Harry....thanks for everything....

  42. S.... ....

His voice goes all the way to the moon and back. No one does backing vocals and lead at the same time like schmilsson. You know he once robbed a convenience store for $17- to make rent?

  43. M.... P....

Whats up at the end where nobody claps?????????

    M.... P....

    they're speechless

    M.... P....

This was recorded in the studio, "live". Those people were not actually there, and Nilsson edited a bunch of weird clips of an "audience" reacting in strange ways. It actually pretty hilarious and trippy at times if you watch the whole BBC program. I know at one point there are 3 Nilssons singing at the same time, and there is an instance were Nilsson is dressed as an ape.

    M.... P....

+Mr.DC24 Yes I found it! Below. Brilliant.

    M.... P....

He refused to do the special if there really was an audience. I find it heartbreaking that he wanted clips of a fake audience sleeping, talking, ignoring him added later, and especially the pie in the face at the end of the special. He was extraordinary, yet could never really believe how much we loved him. Childhood rejection never goes away.

  44. D.... R....

Wow! Nilsson is brilliant!  Just found his music and can't stop listening.  May be the best voice I've ever heard.

    D.... R....

Keep listening David. Unfortunately, like his life, there is little remaining of such a beautiful talent when time calls a number.

    D.... R....

+David Richardson One of an angels incarnate.

    D.... R....

+David Richardson Welcome, David... you are among us and you shall be haunted by his voice forever. It sings to us, only.

  45. B.... ....

Unbelievable!  I've have never seen or heard this version!

  46. D.... C....

    blblblblblblblues are all around me

    D.... C....

@Daniel Coyne that's the best part!

    D.... C....

the Oohs are all around me.

    D.... C....

    the Bluesssss

  47. W.... H....

    I should date this, so I remember...28 June 2014

  48. W.... H....

    I am blue today too.

  49. A.... G....

    blallluuuuuuuullllllllllllluuuuuuuuulluluullllllullu. R.I.P. Fred Neil

  50. M.... D....

Harry was profound and a  richly gifted songwriter that expressed the human condition truly and with great honesty and feeling.

    M.... D....

    love him

    M.... D....

No one here has mentioned that this heartfelt performance of a deeply longing and personal outcry was met with people getting up and leaving, people tittering to each other ; with ZERO applause. And then he reacted with the small shock of being ignored.

    M.... D....

He just RIPS out your heart and you're happier for it.

  51. J.... J....

    Good night Harry...............

  52. m.... ....

    Just so beautiful ...

  53. C.... ....

The Point! is an adult album that can be played to children, the songs are loosely knit together by Harry's narration. The songs themselves are for the most part very deep and of High Quality.

  54. J.... ....

    He's so beautiful.

    J.... ....

    JandHAdventures Agree

  55. J.... M....

I have watched the movie over and over again with my granddaughter. First saw it back in the 70's with my son's. Now with their children. This is my favorite, too.

  56. M.... H....

    Passionate song that is unmatched.

  57. W.... ....

My very favorite Nilsson song. Great rendition. Thanks for posting.

  58. J.... N....

    The genius at his art
    with his broken heart..

  59. S.... L....

The audience had no idea that they were seeing a music man.

  60. t.... ....

"Down here is just like night time".

  61. t.... ....

    What else can you say.

  62. s.... ....

Wow..I can't believe how great this is!! Harry was truly an artists artist!!

  63. 2.... ....

  74. t.... ....

shivers down my spine harrys voice amazing

  75. s.... ....

Harry was a creative genius! He said some songs he's written took as long to write as to sing! Amazing talent!!

  76. K.... ....

  84. L.... ....

hypnotic, compelling, desperate, sad - wonderful

  85. M.... B....
