Harrison, George - Miss O'Dell Lyrics

I'm the only one down here
Who's got nothing to say
About the war
Or the rice
That keeps going astray on its way to Bombay.
That smog that keeps polluting up our shores
Is boring me to tears.
Why don't you call me, Miss O'Dell?

I'm the only one down here
Who's got nothing to fear
From the waves
Or the rice
That keeps rolling on right up to my front porch.
The record player's broken on the floor,
And Ben, he can't restore it.
Miss O'Dell.

I can tell you
Nothing new
Has happened since I last saw you.

I'm the only one down here
Who's got nothing to say
About the hip
Or the dope
Or the cat with most hope to fill the Fillmore.
That pushing, shoving, ringing on my bell
Is not for me tonight.
Why don't you call me, Miss O'Dell?

Why don't you call me, Miss O'Dell?

Okay, so has he ripped off another tune here. Little bugger. You gotta watch him. I',m looking at " Give Me Love [ Give Me Peace On Earth ] ". The recurring refrain sequence[s]. Good golly, Miss Molly, he's ripped off one of his own tunes. OMG !

  3. T.... ....

Although uncredited Bob Dylan is the harmonica player on Miss O'Dell B-side of George Harrison's 1973 Apple single Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth). Dylan is there because he is George Harrison's friend and they would help each other out.

    s.... ....

Actually, it was officially released in 2006.

    s.... ....

Abraham Somer is a well known entertainment attorney in L.A. and is in this video, the young man in the blue jeans.

I *LOVE* this song. And video. :)

  37. I.... ....

What a wonderful day it must of been at Friar park filming the Miss O'Dell video.

    I.... ....

This is at their lawyer Abe Somer's house. Go ahead and look at my last name....

    I.... ....

Do you see part of an arid Hollywood hill in the background?

    I.... ....

it looks like ringos house in Surrey called Sunny Heights. John also used to live there!!!

    I.... ....

Well it's not Sunny Heights. The session took place in the Hollywood Hills.

    I.... ....

Absolutely- this is Abe Somer's house and he was in the original photo!

  38. e.... ....

Said nothing about it being an alternative version in the video title. Why would that be?

    e.... ....

The released version on the 45 has George's laughter all over it. :D

    e.... ....

I understood that the rec company preferred the laughing version, even though George re-recorded the song to fix it.

  39. J.... K....

    Good times in "73.

  40. L.... W....

    Muito bom!

  41. D.... ....

i like the version with the laugh of george btw great song

    D.... ....

Davidsomachacon13, I had heard along time ago (late 70's, early 80's) that the reason George was laughing so much on the released take was because he gave out Paul's phone number at the end of the song.

    D.... ....

    Really? I never knew that!

    D.... ....

I bought the give me love/miss O’Dell single the other day not expecting the laughter and it was such a lovely surprise

    D.... ....

George started laughing because he blew the lyrics.
On the original (single) version, instead of singing
"nothing to fear from the waves or the NIGHT that keeps rolling on right up to my front porch"
he accidentally imported a word from the first verse and sang
"the RICE that keeps rolling on right up to my front porch."
This cracked him up. Later on, his laughs sound deliberate, but at that point in the song they are genuine.

  42. D.... V....

The song is about Chris O'Dell,  a former employee and assistant to the Beatle's company Apple, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. She also  joined in the backing chorus on the song Hey Jude and was on the Apple rooftop in January 1969 when the Beatles played live for the last time.I believe that Pattie Harrison was right to be wary of Chris O'Dell, who slept with Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr.  Pattie was convinced George Harrison wanted her there just so he could sleep with her. He never did and instead they became friends.Allegedly,  She was in the kitchen of Harrison's mansion when he told Ringo Starr he was having an affair with his wife, Maureen ("Better you than someone we don't know" was Ringo's reported response).

    D.... V....

I think the nude lady in the window is miss odell

    D.... V....

It was dennis o'dell who worked at apple

    D.... V....

Humberto ,in deed, and not only for rock stars..lol..

    D.... V....

Frank Mccormick There were two O’Dells at Apple, unrelated to each other.

    D.... V....

Mark Drinkard I do not think that was Chris.

  43. A.... ....

    Great song!

  44. K.... M....

Chris O'Dell, who this song is written for, has a fantastic memoir in which she details her friendship with George and Pattie (Boyd) Harrison. Pattie only agreed to be friends with Chris after she swore she'd never sleep with George. She never did, and is still friends with Pattie today

    K.... M....

David K - EVERYONE wanted to sleep with Ringo!

    K.... M....

couldn't they have just called the song "Chris O'Dell"? It sounds the same as "Miss O' Dell"!

    K.... M....

Was she related to dennis o'dell who worked at apple?

    K.... M....

David K and george slept with maureen

    K.... M....

    It is an excellent book.
