This was inscribed on the tombstone of Phil Spector's father. Spector wrote the song and was a member of the group who had a #1 hit with it in 1958 (The Teddy Bears). Annette Kleinbard sang lead.

Funny how some people hear things differently, but I think this is really terrible singing...they butchered a really good song. It's like breaking glass to my ears!

I heard he usually added a word or put in a sentence in the entire song, and then laid claim to it, but, you are right. He did write this song. Rip off on one hand, genius on the other hand. Glad he's in jail where he belongs. Too bad it had to be that poor woman who had to die because of his stupidity and ego.

OK, kidding aside when the lord says "wives obey your husbands" he simply means the MAN has more authority in the family, it has to be voluntary, the wife is to take a subordinate role voluntarily. It's best for society.

I would like to think my husband and I have equal power in the household, but I guess being a man makes them more of a power figure, but, seriously, my husband and I make decisions together, he never tells me what to do, who to talk to, that I can't go out to see family and friends, and I reciprocate. He can do what he likes, as well. I would like to think we are an equal partnership even if he is the breadwinner, and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way. :)

I used to listen to Radio Luxemberg while growing up in England, too. These 50s songs from Jim Reeves, Nat King Cole, Platters, Teddy Bears, Pat Boone represented simple pure values while growing up. Then along came a revolution first gradually (Cliff Richard, Everly Bros, Connie Francis) then hundreds of local rock groups(like mine) in every pub copying Chuck Berry, spawning the Stones, Beatles, Animals,.. who took over the world of music. "I am so glad that I am living in the USA"(30 yrs).

I was about 10 years old when I first heard this on Radio Luxemgerg.It was of course the Teddy Bears very early 50"s.You cannot imagine the effect of this style of music back then it was complete magic.But I feel the Americans somehow knew what they had, and boy did they show the rest of the World.I am from the the UK.
