When i was a teenager in the 70's we attended a youthclub for boys and girls (to keep us out of trouble) Each nigh a guy came in (wont name him,hes knows who he is) with the Poco LP "Rose of Cimarron" under his arm.Whoever was incharge of music was carefully handed the record and allowed to play it once.Then he took it back and placed it back under his arm.I bet he still has it.Just a memory friends.x

I just rediscovered the original by Poco here on YouTube, and it's fabulous with it's masterful music and three part harmony. Like some of the other comments on here I beleive Emmylou has laid down a good take on this.

Emmylou has done some wonderful covers in her long career.

A song never seems to sound as good when you hear it sung by someone else. For me it is no different with this song. The Poco version sounds better to me and always will, as that version is the one which I know and love best.

Rose had good intentions, she was steered wrong by her brother's and their friends. She was pardoned for her crimes, and lived out a normal life. Her brother's were also pardoned, most of their outlaw friends died from gunshot wounds. that was a tough life back then even for honest people.

Rose Dunn was her name. At the age of 14 or 15 she became involved with George Newcomb, a member of the Doolin gang which was how she eventually got the nickname Rose of Cimarron. Newcomb was shot for bounty by Rose's brothers in 1895. She later married a man called Charles Noble and died in 1955.
