Harris, Emmylou - My Father's House Lyrics
Last night I dreamed that I was a child
Out where the pines grow wild and tall
I was trying to make it home through the forest
Before the darkness falls
And ghostly voices rose from the fields
I ran with my heart pounding down that broken path
With the devil snappin' at my heels
I broke through the trees, and there in the night
My father's house stood shining hard and bright
The branches and brambles tore my clothes and scratched my arms
But I ran till I fell, shaking in his arms
I awoke and I imagined the hard things that pulled us apart
I got dressed, and to that house I did ride
From out on the road, I could see its windows shining in light
I walked up the steps and stood on the porch
A woman I didn't recognize came and spoke to me through a chained door
I told her my story, and who I'd come for
She said "I'm sorry, son, but no one by that name lives here anymore"
My father's house shines hard and bright
It stands like a beacon calling me in the night
Calling and calling, so cold and alone
Shining 'cross this dark highway where our sins lie unatoned

Harris, Emmylou My Father's House Comments
Beautiful voice love this song
I have read a couple of comments here that mention that this song was written by Bruce Springsteen...According to the information above it was written by two of The Bee Gees, Robin and Barry Gibb!!! I am not sure whether to believe that or not. I ts a brilliant song who ever wrote it.
Bruce Springsteen
Credits are wrong. It’s one of the few zillion great songs by Bruce Springsteen
Bruce & Emmylou; for ever the highest gift...
Una bonita versión
Her voice
Sweet Jesus, her voice is ethereal, like the sweetest candy on this earth.
Beautiful Song Written by Bruce Springsteen and what A Beautiful Version by EMMYLOU HARRIS

With a voice like that on this special song,I feel like a heartbroken man.

My favourite Bruce song ever and this version is up their with his version, simply amazing.
wasn't this one on the 'Roses in the Snow' album ,,, mid 70s?
+Wellington J. Flute I think it was off her hard to find '13' album.
+imadubaiguy yes it was 'Thirteen' didn't know Springsteen wrote ... I had heard his version ... both pretty good.
From Nebraska in 1982
alguem sabe se esta musica e do elvis presley - in my fathers house
I shoulda known it. Didn't think that anyone but Bruce himself could truly honor this song.
But this version proves me (way) wrong. Damn, if she doesn't sing and score it as if it came from her own soul first.
Calling and calling
So cold and alone
Thanks, Bruce and Emmylou.
