Harris, Emmylou - I'll Be Your Baby Tonight Lyrics

Close your eyes, close the door,
You don't have to worry any more.
I'll be your baby tonight.

Shut the light, shut the shade,
You don't have to be afraid.
I'll be your baby tonight.

Well, that mockingbird's gonna sail away,
We're gonna forget it.
That big, fat moon is gonna shine like a spoon,
But we're gonna let it,
You won't regret it.

Kick your shoes off, do not fear,
Bring that bottle over here.
I'll be your baby tonight.

  1. B.... J....

Great stuff but what does the Nigerian prince think?

  2. D.... S....

    0:32
    Says 1972
    But title says 1970

  3. D.... S....

    Autotune free Zone

  4. D.... S....

In the 70s, so many people were good looking back then. Even I was good looking in the 70s.

    D.... S....

There was still an appreciation for class and beauty back then... today everything is sexualized. Modest is the Hottest!

  5. J.... L....

Bob's music + Emmylou's voice is a deadly combo. It could kill a man, I tells ya. And what, is she about 18 or so here? I didn't realize the world had discovered her that young.

  6. r.... ....

I was kind of a peripheral fan. This is really nice. And I never knew she was THAT beautiful. Wow.

  7. J.... B....

She only needed to wear a large bold flower in her hair...and would become the quintessential 'Hippie' of her generation. Can you spell; Woodstock? At this age, she had such an clean, young, and fresh look about her....just gobs of; YOUTH!

  8. M.... C....

This is good, but I gotta say the original songwriter did it the best.

  9. e.... o....

I liked the way linda Ronstadt and Don Everly sang it.

  10. D.... K....

So many lonely people out there , dreaming of this happening to them.

    D.... K....

And it does not help, not one little bit, that this song is sung by one of the most beautiful women of my generation. No sir, not one little bit.

  11. D.... P....

She was a stunner then, and she still is, I do fancy her!! 😍😍

  12. V.... ....

she was 23 years old here...... incredible!!

  13. s.... h....

Hey Emmylou thanks for this. Just a classic, singing a classic.
    It don't get better.........Thanks. : )

  14. s.... h....

She just rocks this.............................makes me smile..............: )

  15. t.... ....

    I've been everywhere, man
    I've been everywhere, man
    Crossed the desert's bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've a'had my share, man
I've been everywhere.... But I will never forget that long black hair, those big brown eyes in a medium small package with a rose guitar and a warm hug. I don't have a damn thing at 72 but these memories are like fine wine saved in a bottle and sipped now and then till I pass away.... Dang we were so young!!!!

  16. D.... R....

    God, she's beautiful.

    D.... R....

EmmyLou has gotten more beautiful as the years have gone by. Her white/silver hair is just amazing.

  17. T.... M....

Hottest folk/country singers of the 70's: Joan Baez, Emmy Lou Harris, Rita Coolidge, Linda Ronstadt.

  18. .... ....

When a girl sings this song it sounds so much better than Robert Palmer's version, which always sounded to me plain creepy. 😐

  19. R.... L....

She is right on but the bass player is rushing the changes. It didn't seem ro phase her, She's a pro!

    R.... L....

Possibly that slight timing conflict made it all the better.

  20. M.... E....

    Perfect

  21. I.... D....

Unique tone combined with that'Willie' ability to manipulate the timing at will , keeps her absolutely in a class by herself, a musical TREASURE

  22. I.... S....

No tits hanging out. No bare arse twerking in your face. No tattoo covered patches of bare skin & sexier than anyone around today.

  23. v.... m....

    LOVE THIS FROM PORTUGAL

  24. J.... M....

Glad she realized sears tents were outta style

    J.... M....

what, are you 12??? what an asshole thing to say

  25. 6.... ....

I saw her sing the national anthem at Dodgers game years ago.

  26. r.... s....

ive been avid fan of this Angel for nealy 30 years. Seen her many times on many stages: met her in a hotel lobby once, standing all alone, and I with my gorgeous, silver haired 3rd wife, who my 2nd wife thought I had fled her for (not true but no mistaking the resemblance), asked her a question in a room of hundreds of fans on a cruise once (? was, "please speak about your relationship with Prayer In Open D, which I noted seemed a bit out of character for her, and the anser was, its a statement about my life and what I believe and then she summarised that belief which is, lifes hard with our self made challenges and trials, and that the best response shes found along the way is to accept yourself, forgive yourself, always forgive and try and learn and move on, never give up,..... oh, and likes the key, OPen D). But Ive never seen her this young or heard her sing like that ( i agree with Bill below). The highs (if that is the right word) are thinner, softer, higher than anything I ever heard out of her. Bill notes the sound is even different than just a few years later with Gram, and hes right. But she was a folk singer here, and her great model was of course Joan Baez, who was of course the Queen of those lofty folk regions. A few years later she was something else, and of course a few years after that something else. But she never sounded quite like this again as far as I know. She became the savior of the Ryman, the Queen of Telluride, The Sweetheart of the Rodeo, the mother of Americana, the most sought after singing partner in the industry (do you know any other woman singer who sang alongside Dylan in an entire Bob Bylan album?---not even Baez!) and according to Ken Burns in his Country Music DVD history the woman who single handidly nutured and saved authentic country music when Nashville went AM radio, pop-infused, money crazy for nearly a decade with her musical choices and interpretations, which rejected commercialization in favor of integrity and authenticty.... she cared more about the music than anything else. Her fans know this to be true. I count her one of my very few life heroes. But Ive never seen her look or sound quite like this. Thanks a LOT.

  27. D.... G....

Born to sing. So simple and easy. Blessed by God with song.

  28. k.... b....

    Thank you Gram.

  29. T.... ....

she looks and sounds more like linda ronstadt than emmylou harris in this performance

  30. R.... h....

Emmylou sings and the rest fade to grey.

  31. A.... W....

Awful performance, it's like she's never played with a backing band before.

    A.... W....

    What backing band?

    A.... W....

    @ken barr Got ears?

    A.... W....

@Al Wolf Yup. Played for years myself. This lady is solo. Not my issue if you don't see, or hear whats right in front of you.

    A.... W....

@ken barr All of this is strictly your issue.

  32. D.... b....

    Love the young Emmylou.

  33. C.... S....

    Pretty racy song.

  34. a.... b....

    Lovely singer,awesome song

  35. 1.... ....

She looks a lot younger than 23. That babyface and smile makes her look like she's still in high school. Not that I'm complaining.

  36. S.... W....

beautiful girl and a beautiful song but OH the dress

  37. a.... ....

Emmylou Harris is one my favorite female singers. I've been listening to her since I was in the Navy in Vietnam and never tire of hearing her sweet, angelic voice. Sing it again, Emmylou.

  38. G.... S....

    Angels do exist

  39. V.... &....

I like her counting off, the beat...she is sweet as....

  40. t.... w....

I just love her chubby little cheeks at this young age; what a beauty !!!!

    t.... w....

I guess she was a little chubby here because of her pregnancy. When Emmylou performed a song called "gold watch" with Linda (it's here on you tube) she was also pregnant, and her face a little chubby.

  41. L.... I....

    i´m waitin baby....

  42. J.... C....

    Matching voice

  43. F.... E....

This baby is away from being admired by old man

  44. J.... S....

Oh how her voice just melts my butter

  45. 6.... ....

Bring that bod over her is she saying bottle or body?

  46. J.... ....

I'm a real sucker for a pretty face

  47. A.... S....

Sigh,,,, I'm in love. What a wonderful singer she is.

  48. W.... B....

Never seen a video of her this young. Great voice.

  49. S.... R....

It isn’t Nanci Griffith; but she looks like a teenager. Beautiful voice even now.

  50. j.... s....

was she pregnant at the time?
    listen to Iris Dement.

  51. C.... D....

How would it be to have such a natural beautiful voice like this it's almost as if she doesn't even know she has it it's angelic!!

  52. L.... D....

Wow, a young Emmylou, She has only gotten better, "Two More Bottles of Wine?"

  53. J.... j....

there was some really off time shit going on there

    J.... j....

Yea, the drummer probably couldn't hear anything. Way off time in some spots.

  54. S.... S....

    She was so beautiful ❤️
    Still is!! 👍

  55. D.... B....

  58. J.... C....

    Ah Colleen Your voice

  59. R.... J....

Like me, it's hard to believe she was ever that young. I've loved her work since Gram Parsons.

  60. R.... J....

    Emmylou

  61. R.... J....

    Emmylou

  62. R.... J....

Just saw her two weeks ago in San Francisco at Bi Rite grocery store with a couple gentlemen . Now in her 70’s her eyes were in her 20’s for a nano second our eyes met . All I cold do was mutter , that was Emma Lou Harris as I drove home in my truck, star struck, dang, and I pride myself in never being star struck and I never am......with baseball players!

  63. J.... A....

    Such a pure voice. Sweet.

  64. T.... ....

I think my heart skipped a beat and then stopped.

  65. J.... F....

she couldn't decide what to wear, so she pulled on her drapes.

  66. B.... ....

Awful song; painful to listen to.

    B.... ....

    true, it aint rap

  67. R.... S....

Whatever she's doing with her mouth at 1:01 1:47 2:04 it's quite cute.

    R.... S....

it is like counting or keeping the rhytm, she does that in several of the 1970a video's too, as in Evangeline, with The Band, in Last Waltz.

    R.... S....

@House Empire of the Senses Thanks! I kinda thought it might be that, but I wasn't aware that she did it at other times. Adorable, it is.

  68. R.... S....

Do a search on Lady of the Rose. She's pregnant and the same age there - and stunning to listen to and watch.

  69. z.... ....

Prime example of an artist and human who only gets better with age!

  70. D.... ....

She looks and sings like an angel

  71. S.... Q....

    Perfect.

  72. V.... &....

    Gorgeous eyes....

  73. V.... &....

Yes, when singers actually sang, no digital enhancement, just plain simple interpretation sweet to the ears and gentle on the heart...she is so pretty!

  74. S.... ....

She looks like a little girl. Big voice even then.

  75. D.... C....

    Perfect!

  76. C.... C....

    Too high

  77. C.... 4....

I've same age as Emmylou.. At this time time I began my teacher work, and, her , famous country singer career... From France

  78. T.... F....

Bob Dylan's version is incomparable. He really does sound laid back and he's in great voice.

  79. E.... N....

    Great, great channel!

  80. U.... 1....

    When singers actually could sing.

    U.... 1....

    Check out Sierra Ferrell.

  81. U.... 1....

    BPC (before pitch correction)

  82. I.... 8....

Miley Cyrus should take mannerism from her .

  83. b.... ....

    Young honey...

  84. J.... D....

She is beautiful. Nice voice too.

  85. O.... E....

One of my favorite Dylan songs!
Emmylou with a country gold rendition~

  86. G.... M....

    Too slow.

  87. t.... m....

Emmy lou/your white hair is calling/from the shores and fens/but let it, let it/perfume of the night is calling too.

  88. R.... ....

Whoever went shopping with her, the answer to her question, "Does this dress make me look fat?" should have been answered honestly.

    R.... ....

sometime early on she had a child, a girl. Perhaps this is around the time.

    R.... ....

    @Wes PonderYou're probably right.

  89. H.... H....

    what an angel!

  90. e.... s....

So beautiful! I believe she's pregnant with her daughter here
She's aglow with talent for sure.

    e.... s....

I thought the same thing. There's a video of her singing 'Lady of the Rose' and she looked a lot like herself here. She was pregnant at the time.

  91. p.... ....

    Damn she was young

  92. D.... N....

Killing it vocally...but can we talk about the rhythm counting on this video?!

    D.... N....

Lol yes you can just see how hard she is working... such a young gal just starting out, she never knew she would become the greatest. You can just hear her say 'Aww shucks!!"

  93. 1.... ....

Saw her at the Rainbow in 1975.
I'm still in love with her.

  94. r.... ....

Love it. Bet Bob did also

  95. J.... B....

    Total package
